Yankees placed INF Brendan Ryan on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 1, with a Grade 2 right calf strain.
Ryan suffered the injury in Wednesday's Cactus League game. There's no current timetable for his recovery, but a calf injury of that degree is going to take some time to heal. The Yankees acquired Gregorio Petit from the Astros to help shore up their infield depth. Apr 4 - 6:16 PM

An MRI showed Brendan Ryan has a Grade 2 right calf strain.

That's pretty serious, and the severity was underlined by the Yankees' expedience in acquiring shortstop Gregorio Petit from the Astros. Ryan will start the year on the disabled list, and it's unclear at this point how long the strain will keep him sidelined.
Apr 1 - 8:49 PM

Brendan Ryan is likely to begin the season on the disabled list after suffering a calf strain Wednesday.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he would be "very surprised" if Ryan is ready for the season opener after being helped off the field in the sixth inning of Wednesday's Grapefruit League game. Ryan will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the strain. He was slated to be the primary backup to shortstop Didi Gregorius, so while the injury affects the Yankees it doesn't have much bearing on fantasy.
Apr 1 - 6:32 PM

Brendan Ryan limped off the field in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game with a possible leg injury.

Uh oh. Ryan apparently had to be carried down the dugout stairs with what appeared to be a right knee injury. He was only starting on Wednesday because regular shortstop Didi Gregorius is currently nursing a wrist injury. The Yankees are now calling the injury a "strained right calf." Ryan is set to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

Brendan Ryan (back) is on the travel list for Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers.

It will be his Grapefruit League debut. Ryan suffered a mid-back strain while lifting weights a couple days before the start of spring training, so he's spent the past month or so in rehab mode. The 32-year-old shortstop should be ready for Opening Day.

Brendan Ryan (back) could be ready to play in games by the end of the week.

Ryan has yet to make a Grapefruit League appearance after suffering a mid-back strain while lifting weights a couple days before spring training. He’s obviously well behind schedule, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi thinks Ryan can still be ready by Opening Day. "You don't really have to get him in shape to play every day," Girardi said. "He's a guy that's probably a real good candidate to get some extra at-bats in minor league camp."
Mar 17 - 11:04 PM

Brendan Ryan (back) said Sunday that he's feeling better but isn't sure when he'll return to the field.

MLB.com's Bryan Hoch notes that Ryan is becoming "concerned" about being able to get in enough at-bats in order to be ready for Opening Day. The infielder dealt with back problems last season, as well.
Mar 8 - 9:26 AM

Brendan Ryan will miss five days on on-field activities after suffering a mid-back sprain while lifting weights.

It doesn't seem like a major concern at this point, though it's worth noting that Ryan had back issues last spring, as well, before missing the first five weeks of the season. Ryan is slated to back up at shortstop in 2015.
Feb 27 - 12:14 PM

Yankees activated INF Brendan Ryan from the 15-day disabled list.

Ryan began the season on the DL with a pinched nerve in his back, but he had no issues during his recent rehab assignment. The 32-year-old could see more playing time than your average backup shortstop playing behind Derek Jeter, who figures to need regular rest as the season moves along.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Monday that Brendan Ryan (back) will be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.

Ryan has hit .320/.433/.320 during seven rehab games and is no longer bother by his back injury. With Derek Jeter struggling at the plate and in the field, Ryan should see a decent amount of playing time at shortstop.

Brendan Ryan (back) will not be activated Monday.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman was initially told that Ryan was going to join the Yankees in time for Monday's game in Anaheim, but that report proved false. Ryan, who has been on the disabled list all season, could return Tuesday.

Brendan Ryan (back) is expected to join the Yankees in time for Monday's game against the Angels.

Ryan has been on the disabled list since the end of spring training with a pinched nerve in his back. Derek Jeter is struggling to catch up to pitches in his age-39 season, so Ryan could get considerable playing time.

Brendan Ryan (back) is expected to need 10 more at-bats during his rehab assignment before being activated by the Yankees.

Ryan has played in four games for High-A Tampa and will move up to Double-A Trenton on Friday. It sounds like he'll join the Yankees for their road trip beginning on Monday in Anaheim.

Brendan Ryan (back, hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Tampa on Sunday.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he wants the infield to get 50 rehab at-bats, which means he's not going to be activated late next week as originally hoped. Count on seeing Ryan back during the first full week of May if all goes well.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday that Brendan Ryan (back, hamstring) is about a week away from being activated.

Ryan has been playing in extended spring training games for a week, though he had a mini-setback earlier this week when his hamstring tightened up on him. However, it sounds like he's back on track and will rejoin the Yankees in early May.
