Brendan Ryan turned in his first multihit game since April 5 on Thursday, going 2-for-4 with an RBI against the Yankees.
Ryan went 4-for-12 in the series against the Yankees, which is like an average hitter going 14-for-12. His average jumped all of the way from .122 to .149. May 16 - 10:53 PM

Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Saturday that he has not benched Brendan Ryan and the shortstop position will continue to be evaluated.

Ryan has started the last two games after Robert Andino started the previous two. It sounds like they'll continue to be rotated until someone distinguishes themselves. "Regardless of what has been written, I didn’t bench (Ryan)," Wedge said. "I said Andino is going to play more and we’re going to take it day to day, week to week and month to month and see what happens."

Brendan Ryan was not in the Mariners' Cactus League lineup on Tuesday due to stiffness in his neck.

Ryan was able to take part in team workouts and insists he'll be fine by Thursday. The slick-fielding shortstop missed time at the end of the 2011 season with a similar neck issue, but he doesn't believe that there is any link between them. He'll be fine for Opening Day.

Brendan Ryan homered Monday in the Mariners' 9-8 Cactus League victory over the Angels.

Ryan possesses very little raw power, but he let loose on a Chad Cordero pitch in the third inning. The athletic 30-year-old will open 2013 as the Mariners' starting shortstop, but he's not really a fantasy guy.
Feb 25 - 6:21 PM

Brendan Ryan (elbow) is expected to be 100 percent for spring training.

Ryan had surgery in October to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. The 30-year-old is one of the best fielding shortstops in the majors, but he batted just .194/.277/.278 last season. He can be ignored in fantasy leagues.
Jan 23 - 1:44 PM

Mariners avoided arbitration with SS Brendan Ryan by agreeing to a one-year, $3.25 million contract.

Ryan, who was arbitration-eligible for the final time, is a defensive wizard but is coming off a year where he batted just .194/.277/.278. He'll be the starting shortstop on Opening Day, but the M's could eventually seek a replacement.

Brendan Ryan had elbow surgery on Thursday morning.

The procedure, designed to remove bone chips from the shortstop's right elbow, was deemed a success. Ryan will be fully recovered by the start of spring training.

Brendan Ryan will undergo surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow.

It's not known how long the rehab will take, but it's a relatively minor procedure. Ryan will be fine by the time spring training rolls around.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge anticipates Brendan Ryan being the team's starting shortstop again next season.

Ryan is one of the best defensive shortstops in the game, but he's batted a measly .194/.277/.278 this season. He's entering his final year of arbitration this winter. "I think he's going to hit better," Wedge said. "He's a much better offensive player than .195. If there's ever a player that gets in his own way offensively, Brendan Ryan is it. We're going to try to help him get the hell out of his own way next year. I think he's the best defensive shortstop in the game. A game changer."

Brendan Ryan homered in the Mariners' loss to the Rangers on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.

It was only his third big fly of the season. Ryan is probably the best defensive shortstop in the major leagues, but he doesn't offer much in the way of fantasy value.

Brendan Ryan went 0-for-2 with a strikeout Sunday in the Mariners' loss to the Athletics.

Ryan remains one of MLB's best defensive shortstops, but he's batting just .195/.284/.276 in 123 games played. That's even worse than his .245/.308/.328 career line.

Brendan Ryan (elbow) is back in Friday's lineup.

Brendan Ryan (elbow) is expected to return to the Mariners' lineup Friday.

Ryan hasn't played since being hit on the elbow by a pitch Saturday and still doesn't have full range of motion. The M's anticipate he'll feel good enough to give it a go Friday, though. "I fully expect Ryno to be back on Friday," manager Eric Wedge said. "He's doing more. He took some ground balls yesterday and we'll see how he feels today. He just has a lot of inflammation and swelling."

Brendan Ryan (elbow) is out of the starting lineup again Wednesday.

Ryan hasn't played since being hit in the elbow by a pitch by Yankees' right-hander Hiroki Kuroda on Saturday. He was out on the field during pre-game workouts, which is a good sign, but it's not clear when he'll return to action. Munenori Kawasaki will continue to fill in for now.

Brendan Ryan (elbow) is out of the Mariners' starting lineup for the third straight day Tuesday.

Ryan suffered a bruised left elbow when he was hit by a pitch Saturday and is currently considered day-to-day. Munenori Kawasaki, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI on Monday, is starting at shortstop again Tuesday.
