Athletics designated RHP Chris Resop for assignment.
Hideki Okajima has been called up from Triple-A Sacramento to replace him on the active roster. Resop has an ugly 6.00 ERA and 13/10 K/BB ratio over 18 innings this season. He's making $1.35 million, so it's likely he'll pass through waivers. May 17 - 5:31 PM

Pirates and RHP Chris Resop avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $850,000 contract.

Resop was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The 29-year-old right-hander posted a 4.82 ERA and 79/30 K/BB ratio over 69 2/3 innings last season. He'll set-up for closer Joel Hanrahan again in 2012.

Chris Resop has been moved to the long relief role.

Resop has given up nine earned runs in his past seven appearances, leading to the demotion. "We really don't have a long guy," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "For a couple innings, he's definitely capable of throwing two innings." Daniel McCutchen, who boasts a 0.53 ERA and 0.94 WHIP, will now move into a short relief role after serving as the long man.

Chris Resop did not record an out in his relief appearance on Sunday, giving up three runs on three hits to the Astros.

Resop surrendered a home run, a single, and then a double before getting pulled. As a result, his ERA jumped from 2.76 to 4.41.

Despite starting all 17 of his minor league games last season, Chris Resop will be in the bullpen in 2011.

Pirates president Frank Coonelly said, "we think that other players will grab the fifth spot in the rotation, and Chris gives us the best chance to win by pitching out of the bullpen." Resop was a dominant starter at Triple-A Gwinnett in 2010 before shifting to the bullpen after his August call-up to the majors. The versatile right-hander excelled in this role, too, posting a 1.89 ERA in 19 innings. He might not win many games for a team whose last winning record was in 1992, but he is expected to be a valuable middle reliever on the rebuilding Pirates.

Chris Resop (elbow) threw an extended side session Sunday without any pain.

The expectation is that he will be available out of the bullpen Tuesday. Resop hasn't pitched since September 16 due to a tender right elbow.

Chris Resop will pitch as a reliever next season.

Resop has enjoyed some success as a starter in the minor leagues but the Bucs prefer his skill set in the bullpen. He is sidelined currently with elbow tenderness and not expected to return before the end of 2010.

GM Neal Huntington said that Chris Resop has "a little tenderness" in right elbow.

For now, rest is the only prescription. This almost surely means Resop's season is over. He pitched very well after landing in Pittsburgh in early August, boasting a 2.04 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 21 strikeouts over 17 2/3 innings.

Pirates claimed RHP Chris Resop off waivers from the Braves.

Resop struggled in his lone appearance with the Braves this season, but he's been dynamite at Triple-A, posting a 2.06 ERA in 15 starts. There's a good chance the Pirates will add him to their roster shortly.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reports that the Braves requested outright waivers on right-hander Chris Resop.

If Resop goes unclaimed, he can either accept a minor league assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett or become a free agent. Resop has been on the disabled list since June 16 with a strained oblique, but has recently made four rehab starts in the minors.

Chris Resop (oblique) began a rehab assignment Saturday at Double-A Mississippi.

Resop has been on the disabled list since June 16 with a strained oblique. He's scheduled to throw two innings Saturday and will make a few more rehab appearances early next week before getting clearance to rejoin the Braves. Resop allowed five runs in one appearance before the injury.

Chris Resop reported no issues following a long-toss session Tuesday.

This was the first time Resop had thrown a ball since being placed on the DL on June 16, the day after straining his left oblique. He'll have another long-toss session Wednesday and hopes to get in a bullpen by the weekend. "You can’t rush it," Resop said. "If you try to come back too fast, you could be out even longer."

Braves placed RHP Chris Resop on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique.

Resop made his first appearance of the season on Tuesday night, allowing five hits and five earned runs in two innings against the Rays. He may be injured, or he may just be bad. We'll see in two weeks.
