Brewers outrighted RHP Mike Burns to Triple-A Nashville.

The move opens up a spot on the club's 40-man roster. Burns went 3-5 with a 5.75 ERA in 15 games -- eight starts -- for the Brewers this season. He suffered labrum pathology in late September and could require surgery.

An MRI on Mike Burns' right shoulder Monday revealed "labrum pathology."

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Burns has at least a partial tear of his labrum and could require surgery in the offseason. He'll meet with team physicians Wednesday to discuss his options.

Brewers recalled RHP Mike Burns from Triple-A Nashville.

Burns is 3-5 with a 6.10 ERA in eight starts and five relief appearances during multiple stints with the Brewers this season. He'll get a chance to start if Milwaukee opts to shut down ace Yovani Gallardo. That decision is expected Friday afternoon.

Brewers optioned RHP Mike Burns to Triple-A Nashville.

With a 6.10 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 13 appearances (eight starts), Burns has no reason to be on a major league roster. His demotion cleared 25-man roster space for Dave Bush, who was activated from the DL in a corresponding move.

Mike Burns surrendered six earned runs in three innings Saturday against the Nationals but escaped with a no-decision.

Burns was granted the start in favor of Carlos Villanueva, who is 2-10 with a 6.25 ERA this season. Neither would have been a great bet, but Burns looked absolutely terrible. He served up five hits, including a grand slam to Nationals second baseman Ronnie Belliard, while his ERA climbed to 6.17.

Mike Burns will start on Saturday against the Nationals, pushing Carlos Villanueva to the bullpen.

Coming off a season in which he had a 3.94 ERA, Villanueva is 2-10 with a 6.25 ERA. He's been equally ineffective wherever he's gone, going 2-7 with a 6.18 ERA in relief and 0-3 with a 6.38 ERA as a starter. Burns has a 5.36 ERA in 43 2/3 innings. He is not fantasy relevant.

Mike Burns held the Astros to two earned runs over seven innings Saturday as the Brewers picked up a 6-2 win.

Burns went 2-3 with a 7.20 ERA in five starts with the Brewers back in June and July, but looked like a whole new man tonight. He fanned seven batters while allowing just four hits, lowering his season-long ERA to 5.36 and his WHIP to 1.51. The Brewers have now won three straight games.

Brewers recalled RHP Mike Burns from Triple-A Nashville.

Brewers optioned RHP Mike Burns to Triple-A Nashville.

Burns wasn't all that impressive in five starts with the Brewers, going 2-3 with a 7.20 ERA. As of now, the team hasn't announced a starter for Tuesday, so something will have to give. Stay tuned on that front.

Mike Burns will get the nod Monday against the Pirates.

The Brewers were hoping Dave Bush would be ready to return by then, but he's still struggling with fatigue in his throwing arm. Burns is 2-2 with a 5.54 ERA in five games (four starts) with the Brew Crew. "[He] has done a good job for us," manager Ken Macha said Thursday. "He beat the Dodgers and he beat Johan Santana, so he's capable." The right-hander might be worth one final try in NL-only leagues.

Mike Burns gave up three runs over five innings in a victory against the Dodgers on Friday.

Rafael Furcal and Andre Ethier hit back-to-back homers off him in the fifth, but Burns was effective over the rest of his outing. He struck out seven and walked none to improve to 2-2 as a starter. He's expected to return to the pen if Dave Bush rejoins rotation after the break as hoped.

Mike Burns was hammered for seven earned runs on nine hits over four-plus innings Sunday in a loss to the division rival Cubs.

Burns did a fine job in his first two major league starts, but lost his edge Saturday at Wrigley Field. He now stands 1-2 with a 5.57 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. The Brewers don't have a ton of options, but Burns might not be ready for full-tim major league action just yet.

Mike Burns earned his first major league win by holding the Mets to two runs over 6 2/3 innings on Tuesday night.

The Brewers topped the Mets 6-3. Just the latest example of how the Mets can make any pitcher look like Cy Young lately. To be fair, the 30-year-old Burns was effective, throwing 65 of 95 pitches for strikes. He held the Mets to just five hits, while walking just one and fanning two. He has a 3.31 ERA through three appearances (two starts) with the Brewers this season.

Mike Burns gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Twins on Thursday in his first major league start.

It was Burns' first major league start. He took the loss while allowing six hits and three walks. He struck out three. If it's enough to earn him another start, Burns will take a 3.72 ERA into an outing against the Mets next week.
