Twins released LHP Rafael Perez.
Perez, who underwent shoulder surgery last September, had been pitching at Triple-A Rochester in recent weeks, compiling a 2.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 2/3 K/BB ratio over his first four innings of work. The 31-year-old lefty could draw some interest from teams looking for bullpen help. May 17 - 8:07 PM

Rafael Perez (shoulder) pitched an inning this past weekend in an extended spring training game.

"He was fine," Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said Sunday. "His arm strength is still not quite where it needs to be, but there were no setbacks." Perez signed a minor league contract with Minnesota this offseason. He has an opt-out clause for May 1.

Rafael Perez (shoulder) will throw live batting practice Thursday.

It will be the first time he's faced hitters since undergoing shoulder surgery last September. A timetable for Perez's return remains up in the air. Samuel Deduno (groin) and Rich Harden (shoulder) will follow Perez with live BP sessions on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Apr 9 - 7:23 PM

Rafael Perez (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday.

It was his first of the spring, as he's dealt with some soreness in his surgically-repaired left shoulder. Perez obviously won't be ready for the start of the season and should begin the year in extended spring training. The lefty entered camp as a possible candidate for the rotation, but it's not clear whether the club will use him as a starter or reliever once he's healthy.
Mar 24 - 10:44 AM

Twins general manager Terry Ryan has indicated that Rafael Perez is dealing with some soreness in his surgically-repaired left shoulder.

It sounds like normal post-op soreness, but it's keeping Perez from throwing off a mound. The southpaw is currently long-tossing from 90 feet. Perez entered camp as a possible candidate for the rotation, but at this point he'd probably be lucky to win a long relief job.
Mar 3 - 9:22 AM

Twins assistant GM Rob Antony said Thursday that Rafael Perez will audition for the starting rotation.

Perez has never started a game in the major leagues, but he has done it in the minors and the Twins are going to give him a shot to shine in that role this spring. The 30-year-old lefty is already recovered from his September shoulder surgery. He owns a 3.64 career MLB ERA.
Feb 14 - 12:28 PM

Twins signed LHP Rafael Perez to a minor league contract.

Perez underwent left shoulder surgery in September but should be ready for the start of the 2013 season. He owns a cool 3.64 career ERA and a 1.33 career WHIP.

Indians non-tendered LHP Rafael Perez.

Perez was already designated for assignment earlier this week, so this move means he's officially a free agent. The 30-year-old southpaw was limited to just eight appearances this season due to a shoulder injury which required surgery in September.

Indians designated LHP Rafael Perez for assignment.

Perez was expected to be non-tendered, so the move doesn't come as a big surprise. The 30-year-old southpaw was limited to just eight games this season due to a shoulder injury which required surgery in September. He'll likely have to accept an incentive-laden deal this winter.

The Indians are expected to release Rafael Perez.

Perez is arbitration-eligible and is almost certain to be non-tendered. He appeared in just eight games last season due to a shoulder injury that required surgery in September. After making $2 million in 2012, it's possible Perez could be brought back on an incentive-based contract.

MLB.com's Jordan Bastian lists Rafael Perez as a non-tender candidate.

Bastian also considers Jack Hannahan, Brent Lillibridge, and Kevin Slowey as possibilities to become free agents. Perez appeared in just eight games in 2012 and underwent shoulder surgery this offseason. Hannahan, 32, is likely to be back on a reduced contract.

Rafael Perez had shoulder surgery on Wednesday.

Perez had already been ruled out for the rest of the season, and now his offseason routine may be slightly affected. But the Indians are optimistic that the left-hander will be close to full health by spring training.
