Tigers released RHP Cesar Carrillo.

Carillo, a former college teammate of Ryan Braun, was one of the names linked to the Miami-based Biogenesis clinic and was suspended 100 games in March for violating the minor league drug program. Upon the completion of his suspension, the Tigers announced that he has been given his unconditional release. Carrillo hasn't appeared in the majors since 2009.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Cesar Carrillo's 100-game suspension is related to his name surfacing in the Biogenesis documents.

The announcement from MLB noted that Carrillo violated the minor league drug policy. This is an important distinction because minor league players who are not on the 40-man roster do not have the same protection as major leaguers do. This is nothing more than speculation for now, but it's possible the suspension was levied after he refused to cooperate with MLB's investigation into the Biogenesis clinic.

The cause of the suspension is not specified, but it's worth noting that Carrillo was one of the names linked to the Miami-based Biogenesis clinic. The 28-year-old pitched for the Tigers' High-A and Double-A affiliates last year and hasn't appeared in the majors since 2009 as a member of the Padres.

Astros optioned RHPs Cesar Carrillo, David Carpenter, Jorge De Leon and Arcenio Leon and INF Jimmy Paredes to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

As with most first rounds of roster cuts, there weren't any surprises here. Left-hander Douglas Arguello, infielders Koby Clemens, Brian Dopirak, Jiovanni Mier and Jose Carlos Thompson, catcher Rene Garcia, right-hander Sammy Gervacio and outfielders Jon Gaston and J.D. Martinez were also reassigned to minor league camp.

Cesar Carrillo was arrested early Saturday morning in Tampa, FL and taken to the Hillsborough County Jail, where he was charged with one count of trespassing.

According to sheriff's office records, Carrillo was warned before being arrested at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, but it's not clear what led to the warning. He was released on a $500 cash bond nearly six hours after being arrested. A former No. 1 prospect with the Padres, Carrillo was claimed off waivers by the Astros in September.

The Padres DFA'd Carrillo when major league rosters expanded on September 1 and the Phillies claimed him eight days later. Philly needed a spot on the 40-man roster today and Carillo was apparently low man on the totem pole. If he clears waivers, he could return to the Triple-A affiliate.
