Angels signed INF/OF Cliff Pennington to a two-year, $3.75 million contract.
Pennington's contract also contains performance bonuses. While he hasn't been a regular starter since 2012, when he hit .215/.278/.311 in 418 at-bats with the A's, the 31-year-old is the baseball equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife in the field. He played a whopping four different positions between the Diamondbacks and the Blue Jays in 2015. Unfortunately, he didn't acquit himself so well at the plate. Pennington had just 44 hits in 210 at-bats (.209) with three homers and 21 RBI. Still, the versatility is nice. Tue, Nov 17, 2015 06:22:00 PM

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports Cliff Pennington is close to signing.

He's considering one and two-year offers. According to SB Nation's Chris Cotillo, three teams are "in the mix" for Pennington. The 31 year old was a jack of all trades this past season, starting games at four different positions. Pennington hasn't been an everyday player since 2012.

Cliff Pennington went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer Thursday against the Braves.

Edwin Encarnacion and Josh Donaldson also homered, but those were mere solo shots. No, it was Pennington who played the role of offensive star tonight. He has two homers in his last five games after hitting one in his first 87 games of the year. The Blue Jays seem to like him as a starter with Troy Tulowitzki and Devon Travis out.

Cliff Pennington went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Tuesday's loss to the Braves.

Pennington, getting regular playing time with both Troy Tulowitzki and Devon Travis out of the lineup, got the Jays on the board with an RBI single in the second inning. It was a rare RBI and even rarer two-hit game for the infielder, who is hitting .215/.300/.271 in parts of 90 games.

Blue Jays acquired INF Cliff Pennington and cash considerations from the Diamondbacks for INF Dawel Lugo.

The veteran infielder will provide depth in the middle infield for the Blue Jays as Devon Travis continues to struggle in his recovery from a shoulder injury. Better known for his glove work, Pennington was hitting just .237/.314/.281 in 135 at-bats with the Diamondbacks.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Blue Jays have agreed to a deal to acquire Cliff Pennington from the Diamondbacks.

With Devon Travis taking longer than expected to recover from his shoulder injury, adding depth in the infield certainly makes sense. The 31-year-old is hitting .237/.314/.281 with one homer and 10 RBI in 135 at-bats on the season.

Cliff Pennington delivered a game-tying single in the sixth and a game-ending sac fly in the 10th as the Diamondbacks topped the Rockies 4-3 on Friday.

Pennington remains a fine utilityman, but the Diamondbacks haven't gotten a ton of use from him this year with Nick Ahmed playing well at short and Aaron Hill acting as the primary fallback at second and third. The runs batted in he collected tonight were just his sixth and seventh of the season, and it was also only his second multihit game.

Cliff Pennington was scratched from Friday's lineup due to a personal issue.

There's no word yet on how long he might be away. Nick Ahmed took Pennington's spot in the lineup.

Diamondbacks avoided arbitration with INF Cliff Pennington by agreeing to a one-year, $3.275 million contract.

The veteran infielder slashed .254/.340/.350 with a pair of homers and 10 RBI in 68 contests with the Diamondbacks in 2014. He'll reprise his utility role in 2014, serving as a fill-in option at shortstop, second base and third base.

Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart said Tuesday that he plans to tender a contract to Cliff Pennington.

Pennington is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter after recently finishing a two-year, $5 million contract. The 30-year-old batted .254/.340/.350 with two home runs and 10 RBI over 68 games this season and Stewart still considers him a useful piece for the infield.

Cliff Pennington had the only two hits for the Diamondbacks Sunday, going 2-for-3 in a loss to the Cardinals.

Pennington's two singles were all the Diamondbacks could muster against a slew of pitchers near the end of the Cardinals' roster. A left thumb injury cost Pennington two months, and the shortstop finishes the year batting .254 with six stolen bases.

Cliff Pennington went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's win over the Marlins.

It was his first home run since May 1, 2013. The 30-year-old is hitting .360 (9-for-25) since returning from thumb surgery, but he's strictly an NL-only play in fantasy leagues.

Diamondbacks activated INF Cliff Pennington from the 15-day disabled list.

Pennington missed over two months following early-June surgery to repair a sprained ligament in his left thumb. He will serve as infield depth down the stretch.

Cliff Pennington (thumb) began a rehab assignment with the Arizona League Diamondbacks on Saturday.

He shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated. Pennington has been on the shelf for nearly two months with a sprained ligament in his left thumb.

Cliff Pennington needs surgery to repair a sprained ligament in his left thumb and is expected to be sidelined for two months.

Pennington initially suffered the injury last week and was finally put on the DL Tuesday when he didn't experience any improvement. Didi Gregorius took his place on the active roster.
