Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Monday that Cliff Pennington (hamstring) is still "a ways away."

Scioscia said that Pennington is just beginning some "very low level" baseball activity, so a return isn't imminent. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since the end of May after aggravating a left hamstring strain.

Angels placed 2B Cliff Pennington on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

Pennington had to be lifted from Tuesday's game against the Tigers when he tweaked his hamstring on an infield single in the seventh inning. The veteran second baseman just spent two weeks on the disabled list with a hamstring injury (activated from the disabled list on May 29), making this re-aggravation a frustrating development for his 2016 season.
Jun 1 - 4:54 PM

Cliff Pennington is expected to be placed back on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

Pennington just returned from the DL on Sunday, but he reaggravated his hamstring Tuesday while legging out a bunt single in the bottom of the seventh. The infielder is probably going to be out until mid-June.
Jun 1 - 8:50 AM

Cliff Pennington left Tuesday's game against the Tigers after appearing to aggravate his left hamstring.

Pennington just spent 15 days on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain, and it looks like he might be headed back there. He suffered the re-injury while legging an infield single in the bottom of the seventh.
Jun 1 - 12:56 AM

Angels activated INF Cliff Pennington from the 15-day disabled list.

He missed the minimum amount of time with a strained hamstring. Pennington will play pretty regularly until Andrelton Simmons (thumb) returns.
May 29 - 8:14 AM

Cliff Pennington (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Saturday, the first day he's eligible.

It's not a surprise, as Pennington resumed running less than a week after straining his hamstring. He'll be in line for regular at-bats once activated with Andrelton Simmons (thumb) on the shelf.
May 22 - 2:32 PM

Cliff Pennington (hamstring) did some running on Thursday.

Pennington is a week removed from a left hamstring strain. "I think he feels a lot more comfortable right now," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. It's unclear whether Pennington will require a rehab assignment before being activated, but he's making progress.
May 20 - 9:39 AM

Angels placed INF Cliff Pennington (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

Pennington left Thursday's game with a strained left hamstring and needs a couple of weeks to get healthy. The veteran infielder remains a useful big-league player due to his glove, but he's hitting .217/.294/.370 in 53 plate appearances and hasn't hit above .260 since 2011.
May 13 - 10:19 PM

Cliff Pennington left Thursday's game with a cramp in his left hamstring.

Pennington expects to be fine, although it wouldn't be a surprise if he's unavailable for a few days. "It definitely feels much better now than it did a couple hours ago," Pennington said after the game.
May 13 - 11:27 AM

Cliff Pennington started just his fifth game all year and launched a solo homer in Saturday's win over the Mariners.

Pennington got the Angels on the board on Saturday with his solo homer off Felix Hernandez, leading off the third inning. He's a useful utility guy who can competently slot in across the infield, but any offense whatsoever is just gravy. The 31-year-old hit just .210/.298/.281 a year ago and his current .211/.286/.526 slash line isn't much different, regardless of the momentary power blip.
Apr 24 - 1:23 AM

Angels signed INF/OF Cliff Pennington to a two-year, $3.75 million contract.

Pennington's contract also contains performance bonuses. While he hasn't been a regular starter since 2012, when he hit .215/.278/.311 in 418 at-bats with the A's, the 31-year-old is the baseball equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife in the field. He played a whopping four different positions between the Diamondbacks and the Blue Jays in 2015. Unfortunately, he didn't acquit himself so well at the plate. Pennington had just 44 hits in 210 at-bats (.209) with three homers and 21 RBI. Still, the versatility is nice.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports Cliff Pennington is close to signing.

He's considering one and two-year offers. According to SB Nation's Chris Cotillo, three teams are "in the mix" for Pennington. The 31 year old was a jack of all trades this past season, starting games at four different positions. Pennington hasn't been an everyday player since 2012.

Cliff Pennington went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer Thursday against the Braves.

Edwin Encarnacion and Josh Donaldson also homered, but those were mere solo shots. No, it was Pennington who played the role of offensive star tonight. He has two homers in his last five games after hitting one in his first 87 games of the year. The Blue Jays seem to like him as a starter with Troy Tulowitzki and Devon Travis out.

Cliff Pennington went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Tuesday's loss to the Braves.

Pennington, getting regular playing time with both Troy Tulowitzki and Devon Travis out of the lineup, got the Jays on the board with an RBI single in the second inning. It was a rare RBI and even rarer two-hit game for the infielder, who is hitting .215/.300/.271 in parts of 90 games.
