Zach Putnam will see a doctor after suffering a setback with his elbow.

Putnam threw 25-30 pitches off a mound on Tuesday, but obviously his elbow didn't respond well. He could be looking at second-ending surgery to remove bone spurs.
Jul 21 - 5:38 PM

Zack Putnam (elbow) threw 25-30 pitches off a mound Tuesday with good intensity.

"If I wake up and it’s super swollen up and super stiff, it’s going to be a problem," Putnam said, somewhat ominously, after the workout. "We’ll evaluate it then." The right-hander was diagnosed last month with ulnar neuritis in his pitching elbow, a condition that will eventually require surgery. He is hoping to return to the White Sox bullpen for the stretch run and postpone the procedure until the offseason.
Jul 19 - 11:02 PM

Zach Putnam (elbow) is scheduled to throw off a mound Saturday for the first time since landing on the disabled list.

Putnam was diagnosed last month with ulnar neuritis in his right elbow -- something that will eventually require surgery -- but he's hoping to pitch out of the White Sox bullpen down the stretch. And then undergo the procedure in the offseason. Saturday's mound workout will be the first big test of that plan.
Jul 11 - 1:31 PM

Zach Putnam (elbow) played catch from 60 feet on Friday and Saturday.

He'll take the day off Sunday before playing catch again Monday. Putnam is dealing with ulnar neuritis in his right elbow but is attempting to avoid surgery.
Jul 3 - 1:11 PM

Zach Putnam (elbow) has not resigned himself to surgery yet.

Putnam is fighting through ulnar neuritis in his right elbow. An eventual surgery could be in the cards, but for the time being, the White Sox and Putnam do not feel they have reached that bridge. At the very least, he shouldn't be expected to contribute to the White Sox bullpen before the All-Star Break.
Jun 29 - 6:59 PM

Zach Putnam is mulling surgery to repair ulnar neuritis in his right elbow.

Putnam dealt with the elbow issue for a while before finally being put on the disabled list earlier this week. It's unclear whether surgery would knock him out for the season, but his loss would be a big blow to the White Sox' bullpen. Putnam boasts a 2.82 ERA and has struck out over a batter per inning since the beginning of 2014.
Jun 24 - 5:35 PM

White Sox placed RHP Zach Putnam on the 15-day disabled list with ulnar neuritis in his right elbow.

Putnam has been dealing with an elbow issue for a while and will now get some extended rest. The White Sox have called up Chris Beck to take his place in the bullpen.
Jun 21 - 12:13 PM

Zach Putnam (elbow) threw a scoreless inning of relief on Wednesday against the Nationals.

Putnam hadn't pitched in a week due to mild elbow soreness. He took over for James Shields in the top of the third, after Shields had been lit up for seven earned runs over two-plus innings in his White Sox debut. Putnam boasts a 2.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 25/6 K/BB ratio in 24 innings this season for Chicago.
Jun 9 - 8:50 AM

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said that Zach Putnam (elbow) will be available to pitch against the Nationals on Wednesday.

Putnam was unavailable for Tuesday's game, but in a pleasant turn of events, it appears that the White Sox do not view his elbow soreness as something that could cause long-term complications. He has been on his game over 23 innings in 2016, pitching to a 2.35 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 25/6 K/BB ratio across 23 innings. Putnam last pitched on June 1.
Jun 8 - 7:06 PM

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Zach Putnam was unavailable Tuesday due to elbow soreness.

There's no talk yet of an MRI exam, but that's usually the course of action with anything elbow-related. Putnam has a sharp 2.35 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 25/6 K/BB ratio in 23 innings this season, but his last appearance was June 1. Losing him for even longer would be a big blow for the White Sox bullpen.
Jun 8 - 12:36 AM

Zach Putnam is dealing with a mild hamstring strain.

Putnam tweaked his hamstring while stretching on Friday, but he insists that it's "nothing serious." It sounds like the reliever should be back in action shortly.
Mar 13 - 12:33 PM

Zach Putnam will be sidelined for a few days with a lower body injury.

According to beat writer Scott Merkin, Putnam "tweaked something that wasn't his shoulder or elbow" on Friday. That's a pretty vague diagnosis but at least Putnam's arm is fine. Consider him day-to-day.
Mar 12 - 7:10 PM

White Sox and RHP Zach Putnam avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $975,000 contract.

Putnam qualified for arbitration for the first time this winter as a Super 2 player. He's earned the raise after putting up a 2.96 ERA with 110 strikeouts over 103 1/3 relief frames across the last two seasons.
Jan 17 - 10:21 AM

White Sox activated RHP Zach Putnam from the 15-day disabled list.

Putnam has missed the last two weeks of action with a right groin strain, but he's ready to go now. He's been one of the White Sox' best relievers this season, posting a 2.93 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 40 innings.
