Zach Putnam (groin) is available to pitch Tuesday.

He had been unavailable for a few days after tweaking his right groin while warming up in the bullpen last Friday. Putnam boasts a 2.93 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 40 innings for the White Sox this season.

Zach Putnam will be unavailable for the third straight game Monday due to a sore leg.

"We need to stay away from him (Monday)," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "We don't think it's anything serious." Putnam has had a fine season while helping to set up for David Robertson, posting a 2.93 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 40 innings.

Zach Putnam was sidelined Wednesday with a stomach ailment.

Putnam was kept out of Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers as a result. It's been a rough start to spring for the 27-year-old, who has also nursed back tightness in the early days of camp. The stomach issue shouldn't keep him out long, so he's day to day for now.

Zach Putnam has been nursing some back tightness.

The reliever has had his back wrapped the last couple days, but it's a minor issue. Putnam will help set up for closer David Robertson in 2015 after holding a 1.98 ERA across 49 relief appearances last season.

Zach Putnam was called on to close out the Royals Tuesday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.

A day after Jake Petricka took his fourth blown save, it was Putnam, with Petricka backing him up, who was brought in for the save chance. Putnam responded by inducing three ground ball outs to end the game. Given that Petricka was throwing in the bullpen it's fair to wonder how manager Robin Ventura views the ninth inning currently. Putnam is the less sexy player from a numbers standpoint -- he has just 44 strikeouts in 54 innings of work this season -- but his 2.00 ERA and 1.07 WHIP suggest he's capable of getting the job done if asked. Owners looking for saves should invest in both relievers until some clarity is gained.

After Javy Guerra did all of the dirty work, Zach Putnam got a one-out save against the Indians on Wednesday.

Guerra pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, but after a one-out single and a HBP in the ninth, he was lifted in favor of Putnam, who got Chris Dickerson to pop out to end it. With Jacob Petricka struggling of late, Putnam is a candidate for more saves. It'll probably come down to whether Petricka bounces back in his next couple of outings.

White Sox activated RHP Zach Putnam from the 15-day disabled list.

Putnam has been out since July 24 with right shoulder inflammation, but he made it through a handful of rehab appearances with no issues. Jake Petricka has pitched well in the closer role, but Putnam was also doing well before going on the DL and could be in the mix for saves again.

Zach Putnam (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Putnam showed he was ready by tossing seven scoreless rehab innings with a 12/1 K/BB ratio. Jake Petricka has pitched well in the closer role, but Putnam was also doing well before going on the DL and could be in the mix for saves again.

Zach Putnam (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Charlotte.

Putnam has been out since July 24 with right shoulder inflammation, but he should only need a handful of appearances before rejoining the White Sox. He could find himself back in the mix for saves upon his return.

Zach Putnam (shoulder) expects to return from the 15-day disabled list as soon as he is eligible.

Putnam has been out since July 24 with right shoulder inflammation. He plans to throw from the mound as soon as Friday. The righty has a 2.35 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and 32 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings this year for the White Sox and he's converted three saves.

White Sox placed RHP Zach Putnam on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

This comes on the heels of Putnam allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks over one inning of work Wednesday against the Royals. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined, but Jacob Petricka is now the clear favorite for save chances in Chicago.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Sunday that Zach Putnam and Jacob Petricka are the favorites to be used in the ninth inning when the team has a lead.

Putnam has earned saves in back-to-back games and Petricka notched his third save of the season earlier this month. The former is looking like the best bet of the two at the moment, but Ventura has been hesitant to this point to name one closer since Matt Lindstrom (ankle) went down. Lindstrom, by the way, is expected back in a couple weeks.

Zach Putnam earned his third save of the 2014 as the White Sox beat the Astros 4-3 on Saturday.

Putnam was called upon to get the final out after Jake Petricka put two men on. The right-hander needed only five pitches to strike out Jason Castro and end the game. He also earned a save on Friday night and appears to be the front-runner for saves in Chicago going forward.

Zach Putnam secured his second save of the season on Friday, working a perfect ninth inning to protect a one-run lead against the Astros.

Putnam looked especially impressive in doing so also, striking out two of the three hitters that he squared off against. He now owns a 2.43 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 31/13 K/BB ratio over his first 37 innings. He looks to be the best option that Robin Ventura currently has in the ninth inning, so those speculating on saves in deeper mixed leagues may want to take a chance on him.
