Zach Putnam underwent Tommy John surgery last week.

Putnam had surgery last August to remove a bone fragment from his elbow and he landed back on the DL in April with more elbow issues. He'll miss 12-18 months after going under the knife this time, so Putnam won't be an option for the White Sox until late 2018, at the earliest.
Jun 26 - 5:20 PM

Zach Putnam (elbow) is not currently throwing.

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn added that note to an update on fellow reliever Nate Jones, who is currently in shutdown mode himself. "Putnam is also having a little bit of trouble becoming pain-free," Hahn said. "But he is climbing right now, and we hope this weekend to have him back progressing on a throwing program again." The right-hander probably won't be an option for the White Sox before mid-July.
Jun 14 - 12:56 PM

Zach Putnam (elbow) has been cleared to resume playing catch.

Putnam has been sidelined since April 25 due to inflammation in his right elbow. Now that the setup man has been cleared to resume throwing, a concrete timetable for his return should become more clear. Prior to going down injured, the 29-year-old right-hander held a strong 1.04 ERA in 8 2/3 innings.
May 10 - 5:14 PM

Zach Putnam (elbow) will have a checkup with team doctors on Wednesday.

If his elbow is showing signs of progress, the 29-year-old setup man could be cleared to resume throwing. Putnam has been on the disabled list since April 25 with right elbow inflammation.
May 9 - 4:56 PM

White Sox placed RHP Zach Putnam on the 10-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.

Putnam needed surgery on that elbow last August after battling discomfort for much of the 2016 season, and this could bring another extended absence. The 29-year-old setup man was sporting a 1.04 ERA through 8 2/3 innings this year out of the White Sox bullpen.
Apr 25 - 4:14 PM

Zach Putnam left Saturday's game against the Indians with right elbow tenderness.

Putnam has pitched brilliantly this year (1.04 ERA in seven appearances) and would be a big loss for the White Sox's bullpen. Luckily, he's being classified as day-to-day.
Apr 22 - 10:25 PM

White Sox and RHP Zach Putnam avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.12 million contract.

It's the reliever's second year of arbitration eligibility. Putnam boasts a career 3.33 ERA and will be ready for spring training following August elbow surgery.
Jan 13 - 4:08 PM

Zach Putnam underwent surgery on Thursday to remove a bone fragment in his elbow.

The surgery will end the 2016 season for Putnam. The 29-year-old right-hander was excellent in his limited action, compiling a 2.30 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 30/11 K/BB ratio over 27 1/3 innings.

Zach Putnam will see a doctor after suffering a setback with his elbow.

Putnam threw 25-30 pitches off a mound on Tuesday, but obviously his elbow didn't respond well. He could be looking at second-ending surgery to remove bone spurs.

Zack Putnam (elbow) threw 25-30 pitches off a mound Tuesday with good intensity.

"If I wake up and it’s super swollen up and super stiff, it’s going to be a problem," Putnam said, somewhat ominously, after the workout. "We’ll evaluate it then." The right-hander was diagnosed last month with ulnar neuritis in his pitching elbow, a condition that will eventually require surgery. He is hoping to return to the White Sox bullpen for the stretch run and postpone the procedure until the offseason.

Zach Putnam (elbow) is scheduled to throw off a mound Saturday for the first time since landing on the disabled list.

Putnam was diagnosed last month with ulnar neuritis in his right elbow -- something that will eventually require surgery -- but he's hoping to pitch out of the White Sox bullpen down the stretch. And then undergo the procedure in the offseason. Saturday's mound workout will be the first big test of that plan.

Zach Putnam (elbow) played catch from 60 feet on Friday and Saturday.

He'll take the day off Sunday before playing catch again Monday. Putnam is dealing with ulnar neuritis in his right elbow but is attempting to avoid surgery.

Zach Putnam (elbow) has not resigned himself to surgery yet.

Putnam is fighting through ulnar neuritis in his right elbow. An eventual surgery could be in the cards, but for the time being, the White Sox and Putnam do not feel they have reached that bridge. At the very least, he shouldn't be expected to contribute to the White Sox bullpen before the All-Star Break.

Zach Putnam is mulling surgery to repair ulnar neuritis in his right elbow.

Putnam dealt with the elbow issue for a while before finally being put on the disabled list earlier this week. It's unclear whether surgery would knock him out for the season, but his loss would be a big blow to the White Sox' bullpen. Putnam boasts a 2.82 ERA and has struck out over a batter per inning since the beginning of 2014.
