Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register confirms that Chris Volstad is expected to be released by the Angels so that he can pitch in Korea.
Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net reported earlier this week that Volstad is close to signing with the Doosan Bears of the Korean Baseball Organization. The 27-year-old signed a minor league deal with the Angels in November after spending the 2013 season in the Rockies' organization. Fri, Dec 27, 2013 05:46:00 PM

Chris Volstad is close to signing with the Doosan Bears of the Korean Baseball Organization, according to Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net.

Volstad signed a minor league contract with the Angels in November, but he has apparently found a more appealing opportunity oversees. The 27-year-old right-hander only threw 8 1/3 innings at the major league level this past season with the Rockies and had a 4.58 ERA over 127 2/3 innings in Triple-A.

Angels signed RHP Chris Volstad to a minor league contract.

MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez broke the news. Volstad will receive an invite to spring training. It looks like a nice landing spot for the towering 27-year-old right-hander, as Los Angeles is thin in the rotation and became more so when they declined to tender Jason Vargas a qualifying offer. Volstad was pounded for 10 runs over 8 1/3 innings at the big league level this year and logged a 4.58 ERA across 127 2/3 frames at Triple-A. Volstad, selected with the No. 16 pick by the Marlins in the 2005 draft, owns a career 4.94 ERA and a 442/248 K/BB ratio over 703 2/3 career MLB innings.

Chris Volstad has elected free agency.

Volstad was pounded for 10 runs over 8 1/3 innings at the big league level this year and didn't pitch well at Triple-A, either, holding a 4.58 mark across 127 2/3 frames. He'll be in search for a non-roster invite to spring training.

Rockies sent RHP Chris Volstad outright to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Volstad had been designated for assignment last week but has cleared waivers and accepted a minor league assignment. He could get another shot later this summer.

Rockies designated RHP Chris Volstad for assignment.

Volstad posted a 4.97 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 47 innings this season with the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate based in Colorado Springs. The tall 26-year-old right-hander should find interest from other teams on waivers.

Rockies optioned RHP Chris Volstad to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Volstad allowed four runs over two innings in his latest stint with the big club. Logan Kensing has replaced him in the bullpen.

Rockies recalled RHP Chris Volstad from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Volstad posted an 8.53 ERA over four appearances earlier this season for the Rockies and held a 5.31 mark over 40 2/3 frames at Triple-A. The Rockies want to add some length to the bullpen, though, making Volstad a logical choice.

Rockies optioned RHP Chris Volstad to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Volstad made the Opening Day roster after a strong spring, but he owns an ugly 8.53 ERA through his first 6 1/3 innings this season. The Rockies have added left-hander Josh Outman to their bullpen in a corresponding roster move.

Rockies purchased the contract of RHP Chris Volstad from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Volstad earns the final spot in the Rockies' Opening Day bullpen by posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 4/0 K/BB ratio over 12 innings in the spring. With the pitching struggles that they have had in recent years, having another option in the bullpen capable of throwing multiple innings is a wise decision.

The Denver Post's Troy Renck hears that Chris Volstad has a "slight edge" over Manny Corpas for the final spot in the Rockies' bullpen.

Volstad entered camp hoping to be part of the rotation, but, given how he's been used, it was clear that he was never really in contention to crack the starting five. He's put up a 3.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 12 spring innings, though, which appears will be good enough to land a long relief gig.

Chris Volstad tossed two scoreless innings Monday afternoon against the Rangers.

Volstad gave up two hits and no walks and didn't notch any strikeouts. He benefitted from a pair of double plays turned behind him. After posting a 6.31 ERA over 21 starts with the Cubs last season, he'll need a big spring in order to secure a rotation spot.

Rockies signed RHP Chris Volstad to a minor league contract.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the deal has a total value of $1.5 million. Volstad, who had a career-worst 6.31 ERA in 21 starts with the Cubs last season, will compete for a spot in Colorado's starting rotation. After years of underperforming, he's doubtful to suddenly find success pitching at hitter-friendly Coors Field, but it's a low-risk signing for the Rockies.

Chris Volstad has elected to become a free agent.

The Royals designated Volstad for assignment earlier this month -- just weeks after claiming him off waivers from the Cubs. He never threw a pitch for Kansas City.

Royals designated RHP Chris Volstad for assignment.

Volstad was claimed off waivers from the Cubs in late-October, but he wasn't really needed after the Royals acquired Ervin Santana and re-signed Jeremy Guthrie. The 26-year-old right-hander had a terrible 6.31 ERA in 21 starts this season while making $2.65 millon, so he isn't worth the raise he figured to make in arbitration, but he shouldn't have trouble attracting interest as a free agent.
