Taylor Teagarden (hamstring) has not begun playing rehab games.

Teagarden is eligible to come off the disabled list Monday, but he's obviously not close to returning. With Travis d'Arnaud and Anthony Recker on the active roster, there might not be room for him with the big club even once he gets back to full health.

The 30-year-old Teagarden hasn't hit in the majors since 2008, but he was at .279/.402/.548 with eight homers in 104 at-bats for Triple-A Las Vegas this season, earning him another chance. Adam Rubin of ESPN.com reports that Taylor Teagarden's minor league deal with the Mets includes an opt-out clause that he can exercise if he's not on the major league roster by June 15.

The 30-year-old backstop faces an uphill battle trying to supplant Anthony Recker for the backup cather's job in New York. He has always held promise offensively though, and could be worth a look in NL-only leagues if he finds his way onto the Opening Day roster.
