Taylor Teagarden - C - Orioles

The Orioles are considering placing Taylor Teagarden (thumb) on the 60-day disabled list.

The O's originally said Teagarden will miss 3-4 weeks with a dislocated left thumb, but he'll visit a hand specialist on Tuesday before a final determination is made. Baltimore has acquired Chris Snyder to provide depth behind Matt Wieters.

X-rays came back negative after Teagarden was hit by a foul tip on Saturday, but he'll still require a trip to the disabled list and an extended absence. The O's will likely turn to Luis Exposito to serve as the primary backup catcher to Matt Wieters while Teagarden is out.

Teagarden was in immense pain as he walked to the dugout with a trainer. It's possible that he fractured a bone.

Teagarden hasn't played in a week due to back spasms, but he took batting practice and caught bullpen sessions this week without incident. Barring any setbacks, the 29-year-old should serve as Matt Wieters' backup this season.

It doesn't sound like a big issue, but it's worth noting that Teagarden missed a good chunk of 2012 with a lower back problem. He's expected to back up Matt Wieters this season.

Orioles and C Taylor Teagarden avoided arbitration by agreeing to a contract.

Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed. Teagarden appeared in 22 games for the O's in 2012, driving home nine runs in only 64 plate appearances. He should be the primary backup to Matt Wieters in 2013.

Taylor Teagarden - C - Orioles

Taylor Teagarden drove in the go-ahead run in the Orioles' defeat of the Marlins early Wednesday morning.

The game went 18 innings and took close to six total hours. Teagarden's RBI single in the top of the 18th was the first run scored in nine frames and mercifully went unanswered by Seattle in the bottom half. The Orioles' backup catcher has eight RBI in 19 games this season.

Taylor Teagarden doubled home the only run on Sunday's 1-0, 10-inning win over the Rays.

Making his fourth plate appearance, Teagarden drove home Mark Reynolds against Joel Peralta. Teagarden is batting an abysmal .107/.138/.250 in 31 plate appearances since making his 2012 debut on July 14.
