Mike Carp went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored against the Astros on Thursday.
Carp figured to start slow after getting just two at-bats during the first two weeks of the season, but he's capitalized on his few starts of late, going 7-for-13 with four RBI since April 17. Unfortunately, he'll likely head right back to the bench with left-hander Erik Bedard starting for Houston tomorrow. Apr 25 - 10:05 PM

Making his first start of the season, Mike Carp went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI triple in Wednesday's win over the Indians.

Carp was hitless in his first three at-bats before Wednesday, but Red Sox manager John Farrell finally stuck him in the lineup and it paid off. The 26-year-old can hit a little, but it remains to be seen if tonight's showing will earn him more playing time.

Mike Carp went 0-for-3 on Friday to drop his spring average to .194.

Carp is 7-for-36 with one homer and a 13/2 K/BB ratio. It was assumed he'd have a bench spot after the Red Sox acquired him from the Mariners last month, and David Ortiz's setback placed him in position to claim a bigger role. Still, he has to be vulnerable now as much as he's struggled. It might come down to him and Jackie Bradley Jr. for a spot.
Mar 22 - 4:07 PM

Red Sox acquired 1B/OF Mike Carp from the Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Carp was designated for assignment last week, so the Mariners had until Thursday to find him a new home. The 26-year-old is coming off an injury-plagued season in which he batted just 213/.312/.341 with five home runs and a .654 OPS in 189 plate appearances, but he offers an insurance policy to Mike Napoli at first base and also has experience in the outfield. It's not a terrible idea given the price tag involved. It's worth noting that Carp is out of options this spring, so he would have to be exposed to waivers if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster.

Alex Speier of WEEI.com was told by a major league source that the Red Sox are "hopeful" of working out a trade for Mike Carp.

The Mariners have until Thursday to trade Carp, who was designated for assignment last week. The Twins and Astros have also been mentioned as possible landing spots. Carp batted just .213/.312/.341 over an injury-plagued 2012 season, but the Red Sox apparently see him as a potential insurance policy for Mike Napoli at first base.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal hears that the Brewers are not in the mix for Mike Carp.

The Mariners have until Thursday to trade Carp, who was designated for assignment last week. The Brewers have been speculated as a potential fit following the injuries to Corey Hart and Mat Gamel, but the club plans to explore internal options before looking outside the organization. The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo reported Monday that the Twins, Astros and Red Sox are among the clubs with interest in Carp.

Feb 19 - 1:53 PM

The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo lists the Twins, Astros and Red Sox as clubs that have interest in Mike Carp.

The Mariners have until Thursday to trade Carp, who was designated for assignment last week. The Brewers might make sense as a destination, as well, following Mat Gamel's injury. Carp batted just .213/.312/.341 over an injury-plagued 2012 season, but he's shown promise in the minors and in spurts at the big league level.
Feb 18 - 7:22 PM

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have discussed Mike Carp internally.

Carp was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday, but the Red Sox haven't decided whether to pursue him. The 26-year-old batted just .213/.312/.341 with five homers and a .654 OPS last season and was limited to just 59 games due to hip and shoulder problems.
Feb 13 - 11:56 AM

Mariners designated INF/OF Mike Carp for assignment.

The move was made in order make room on the 40-man roster for Joe Saunders. Carp is coming off an injury-shortened season in 2012 when he batted just .213/.312/.341 in 59 games. The 26-year-old has some pop, though, and is likely to draw plenty of attention on waivers.
Feb 12 - 7:27 PM

The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham suggests that the Red Sox could have interest in trading for Mike Carp.

Carp is expendable following the Mariners' addition of Michael Morse, and the Red Sox are looking to improve their bench with a lefthanded hitter who can play first base and corner outfield. Coming off an injury-shortened season in 2012, Carp batted just .213/.312/.341 in 59 games with Seattle, but remains an intriguing power prospect. The Red Sox have also expressed interest in signing free agents Casey Kotchman, Lyle Overbay, and Nick Johnson.
Jan 17 - 9:08 AM

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Mike Carp is "starting to appear on a few teams’ wish lists."

Cafardo thinks Carp, who is under team control through 2014, could be expendable if the Mariners are committed to Justin Smoak at first base. "He’s an interesting name," said an NL scout of Carp. "He’s been buried on that roster in a big ballpark, and if you take him out of there, he may break out. He’s someone you’d take a chance on." Carp is batting just .216/.316/.346 in an injury-shortened season this year, but he slugged .466 for the M's last year and also mashed at Triple-A in 2010 and 2011.

Mariners activated OF Mike Carp from the 15-day disabled list.

Carp wound up missing about three weeks because of discomfort in his left hip. The 26-year-old should see regular playing time down the stretch but is unlikely to hold much value in mixed fantasy leagues.

Mike Carp (hip) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Tacoma.

Carp will initially DH before gradually working his way back to first base duties. While he's moving in the right direction, the 26-year-old would need to make notable progress to return before the end of August.

Mike Carp (hip) swung a bat Tuesday for the first time since landing on the disabled list.

Carp will travel with the Mariners to continue working out and will begin a rehab assignment when he's deemed ready. He should return at some point next month.

Mariners placed 1B Mike Carp on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 13, with a sore left hip.

Carp felt a pop while stretching for a throw Sunday and an MRI on Monday indicated that a stint on the disabled list was likely. However, the exact severity of the injury isn't yet known. Justin Smoak was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding roster move and will handle starting first base duties for now.
