Giants designated OF Justin Maxwell for assignment.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Nick Noonan. Maxwell hit just .209/.275/.341 with seven homers in a part-time role this season.
Sep 1 - 7:07 PM

Justin Maxwell went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Saturday's win over the Dodgers.

Maxwell's two-run homer off of Dodgers starter Carlos Frias in the fifth inning snapped a 2-2 tie. The Giants would eventually win 6-2. He wouldn't have even been in position to hit his sixth homer of the season had Nori Aoki not been plunked by a Frias pitch in the first inning. Aoki would leave the game, Maxwell would enter and hence is the role of chance in life. He's hitting .225/.276/.384 with six homers and 21 RBI over 151 at-bats.
Jun 20 - 10:33 PM

Justin Maxwell was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Friday against the Phillies.

Maxwell made the start in right field with Hunter Pence sidelined due to tendinitis in his left wrist. The 31-year-old has provided decent punch in a part-time role with the Giants this season, batting .240/.295/.388 with four home runs and 18 RBI over 45 games.
Jun 5 - 10:38 PM

Justin Maxwell went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Astros.

Maxwell came up with a pair of infield singles in the game, singling and scoring in the second inning before delivering an RBI single and scoring a run in the fifth. Maxwell has filled in admirably for Hunter Pence in Pence's absence this season, batting .250/.309/.409 with three homers, 15 RBI and 12 runs scored as the primary right fielder for the club.
May 12 - 11:04 PM

Justin Maxwell hit a two-run home run and finished 2-for-3 in Friday's loss to the Rockies.

Maxwell's been swinging a happy bat as of late. On Tuesday, he tripled and homered, scoring three times. On Thursday, he hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th to slay the Dodgers. And on Friday, he launched a massive, 436-foot home run off of Eddie Butler in the second inning. Over 33 at-bats, Maxwell is now hitting .333/.436/.606.
Apr 25 - 3:15 AM

Justin Maxwell sent the Giants home happy with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning against the Dodgers on Thursday.

The Dodgers blew a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, then blew the tie game the next inning. Maxwell, starting in right field, finished 2-for-5 with the RBI single. In 35 plate appearances, the 31-year-old is hitting .300/.400/.500 with five RBI.
Apr 23 - 7:26 PM

Justin Maxwell walked, tripled, homered, drove in two runs, and scored three times in four plate appearances in a win versus the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Maxwell tripled and scored in the second inning, grounded into a fielder's choice and scored in the fourth, then slugged a two-run home run in the eighth inning off of Pedro Baez. Maxwell, who entered the game with just one extra-base hit in 22 plate appearances, has been used mostly as a pinch-hitter with the occasional start in right field against a left-handed starter. If he continues to hit well, he could force a platoon in left field with Norichika Aoki once Hunter Pence returns and reclaims his spot in right field.
Apr 22 - 1:54 AM

Pinch-hitter Justin Maxwell singled in Brandon Crawford in the top of the 12th as the Giants edged the Padres 1-0 on Thursday.

The run was unearned, as Crawford had reached (and advanced to second) on a Clint Barmes error. It was Maxwell's first RBI in a major league game since last June 22. He's going to start against left-handers, at least until Hunter Pence returns and maybe afterwards.
Apr 9 - 11:16 PM

Justin Maxwell went 3-for-3 and drove home three runs on Tuesday, leading the Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Rockies in Cactus League play.

Maxwell got the Giants on the board with an RBI single in the second inning then added a sacrifice fly in the fourth. He would later come through with a clutch RBI single in the eighth inning to tie the game at 3-3. He has had a strong spring, hitting .349 (21-for-60) with a pair of homers and 14 RBI, earning a spot on the Opening Day roster as a reserve outfielder.
Mar 31 - 10:02 PM

Giants purchased the contract of OF Justin Maxwell from Triple-A Sacramento.

Maxwell earned a spot by batting .349 with a couple homers this spring. He could get some playing time against left-handers early on in the season with Hunter Pence (forearm) sidelined.
Mar 31 - 7:27 PM

Justin Maxwell doubled and hit a solo home run in four at-bats Sunday versus the Angels.

Maxwell hit a solo home run off of C.J. Wilson in the fourth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie at the time. The 31-year-old hasn't made a lot of noise this spring, but he remains in the running for a bench role with Hunter Pence on the disabled list.
Mar 22 - 6:37 PM

Justin Maxwell went 0-for-2 as the Giants lost 12-2 to the D'Backs on Sunday.

Maxwell is a long shot, but he is a potential option to play in the outfield for the Giants following the injury to Hunter Pence. Gregor Blanco is likely to get the starting role, but Maxwell could contribute off the bench. He has shown decent power in the past, but is coming off of an ugly .397 OPS in 45 plate appearances for the Royals last season.
Mar 8 - 7:27 PM

Giants signed OF Justin Maxwell to a minor league contract.

He'll presumably get an invite to major league spring training. Maxwell struggled in 30 games with the Royals this past season, but he's shown some pop in the past and could surface as a backup outfielder.
Fri, Dec 5, 2014 01:47:00 PM

Justin Maxwell has elected free agency.

The 30-year-old outfielder was abysmal in his 30 games for the Royals in 2014, hitting just .150/.222/.175 with a 20/2 K/BB ratio in 40 at-bats. He did manage to turn things around at Triple-A Omaha however, hitting .285/.352/.464 in 56 contests. He'll look to secure a minor league deal and spring training invitation elsewhere.
