Astros sent OF Brian Bogusevic outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Bogusevic started for the Astros on Opening Day but struggled mightily in his first full season in the majors. He's now off the 40-man roster. MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports Bogusevic has refused his assignment and elected free agency.

Brian Bogusevic belted a pinch-hit two-run homer in a losing effort against the Brewers on Saturday.

Bogusevic's blast was the second of three Astros homers in the ninth inning, but it still wasn't enough to complete the comeback. He's had a very disappointing season, hitting just .203/.296/.299 with seven homers, 28 RBI and 15 stolen bases across 354 at-bats.

Brian Bogusevic went 0-for-4 and committed an error in right field Wednesday.

Bogusevic simply must pick it up from here on in if he expects to be a part of Houston's plans for 2013. In truth, he's already received more playing time than he's earned. He's batting just .213 with six homers and 22 RBI in 286 at-bats to date.

Brian Bogusevic launched a two-run homer off Andrew Cashner in Tuesday's loss to the Padres.

Cashner had cruised through the first six innings before allowing his first hit to Carlos Lee in the seventh inning. Bogusevic immediately followed with his two-run jack, putting the Astros on top 2-1 at the time. While he is no longer seeing consistent at-bats, he should see a slight bump in playing time with Justin Maxwell on the DL.

Brian Bogusevic went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer in Monday's loss to the Rockies.

Bogusevic batted third in the Astros' order, which says much more about their lineup than Bogusevic's skill set. The big night pushes his average up to .225, and he now has two longballs and 12 RBI for the year.

Brian Bogusevic hit an RBI double off Ryan Webb in the eighth inning, helping to lead the Astros to a 3-2 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday night.

Bogusevic came into the game as a pinch hitter for Wilton Lopez and made the most out of his only plate appearance. He's off to a slow start offensively, hitting just .230 with one homer and nine RBI. But the 28-year-old played an important role tonight.

Brian Bogusevic went 2-for-3 with a homer and two walks in the Astros' 14-7 victory over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Bogusevic, who had a .125 average entering Sunday's game, has reached base eight times in his last two starts. He's probably going to be the Astros' right fielder on Opening Day, but he still doesn't look like anything more than a $1-$2 player in NL-only leagues.

The slumping Brian Bogusevic had two hits and two walks Sunday against the Pirates.

Bogusevic was hitting just .125 in 32 at-bats for the spring. Despite his struggles, he still figures to be a big part of the right field mix for the Astros. He's out of options, and the Astros won't want to risk losing him.

Astros manager Brad Mills said Brian Bogusevic has a leg up in the competition for the right field job.

It's certainly not anything he's done in spring training that has him ahead of the pack, as he's batting just .115/.233/.154. Travis Buck is hitting .350 over 20 at-bats, while Jack Cust is hitless in 24 at-bats. Bogusevic is merely a deep NL-only league play with an everyday job.

The slumping Brian Bogusevic went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Monday against the Marlins.

Bogusevic is 3-for-24 with no RBI and seven strikouts this spring. The Astros were hoping he'd secure a job as the starting right fielder against right-handed pitching, but he's definitely lost some ground. The door could be open for Travis Buck or Jack Cust to start. Buck is the candidate having a terrific spring, with a .438 average in 16 at-bats. Cust, on the other hand, is doing even worse than Bogusevic, having gone 0-for-20 so far.
Mon, Mar 19, 2012 04:48:00 PM

Astros manager Brad Mills will continue to employ a platoon in right field, with Brian Bogusevic still only starting against right-handed pitching.

Bogusevic has only five at-bats, with one hit, against lefties this season. Jason Michaels or Jason Bourgeois will continue to start against left-handers. "J-Mike's with us and in the past he's been a real good hitter against left-handers, so we'd like to give him a chance," Mills said. Houston fans, and fantasy owners, would prefer that Bogusevic start every day, but Mills is apparently not yet ready to do that. "I totally understand that, but at the same time let's give him a little bit more time," he said. "Let things play out a little bit more, and we'll see where he's at."

Brian Bogusevic went 3-for-4 with a double Wednesday, raising his average to .329.

Bogusevic is forcing the Astros to play him most of the time with the way he's swinging the bat right now. He'll continue to sit against the majority of lefties, but he has some value in NL-only leagues anyway.

Brian Bogusevic smacked a walk-off grand slam against Cubs closer Carlos Marmol to send Houston to a thrilling 6-5 victory Tuesday.

Marmol loaded the bases with one out and a 5-2 lead. Bogusevic was inserted as a pinch-hitter for reliever Aneury Rodriguez. He took the sixth pitch he saw from Marmol over the left-center wall, doubling his home run total on the year to two and RBI total to eight. Bogusevic is now 11-for-26 (.423) since rejoining the Astros on July 31. You could do worse for a deep NL-only league flier, especially if he just earned himself more playing time.
