Boyer hasn't officially won a spot yet, but he's almost certain to be a part of the Twins' pen on Opening Day. He's allowed two runs in 10 2/3 innings this spring. Last year, he had a 3.57 ERA in 40 1/3 innings for the Padres.

Blaine Boyer hasn't pitched since Thursday's due to right shoulder fatigue.

He hasn't thrown a ball since then, but Boyer thinks he'll be back soon. "I think we all came to the conclusion that it's just fatigue, fatigue in the back part of my shoulder," Boyer said. "The strength is still there, everything else is fine. It's just a matter of fatigue, as simple as that. The rest has helped. We're doing a lot of treatment." Padres signed RHP Blaine Boyer to a minor league contract.

Boyer will earn $700,000 should he make the Padres roster. He spent the majority of the 2013 season with the Hanshin Tigers in Japan's Central League where he compiled a 2.67 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 21/4 K/BB ratio over 27 innings of relief work. The 32-year-old will compete for a role in the Padres bullpen in the spring.

Boyer opted out of his minor league contract with the Royals over the weekend after he learned that he could get a more lucrative deal overseas. The righty hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011.
