Blaine Boyer has agreed to a contract with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan’s Central League.

Boyer opted out of his minor league contract with the Royals over the weekend after he learned that he could get a more lucrative deal overseas. The righty hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011.

Royals released RHP Blaine Boyer.

Boyer determined that he wasn't going to get called up despite a 3.00 ERA and 18/3 K/BB ratio over 15 innings at Triple-A Omaha, so he decided to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract. He'll now look for a gig elsewhere.

Royals signed RHP Blaine Boyer to a minor league contract.

It's not clear if the deal includes a spring training invite. Boyer, 31, didn't pitch professionally last season and hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011 as a member of the Mets. He'll likely function as organizational depth in 2013.

Cardinals released RHP Blaine Boyer.

Boyer allowed 26 runs in 16 innings with Triple-A Memphis after signing a minor league contract with the Cards in early July. He'll hope to land an opportunity elsewhere.

Cardinals signed RHP Blaine Boyer to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Memphis.

Boyer was cut loose by the Pirates in mid-June after posting a 13.50 ERA and walking nine batters in eight inning for Triple-A Indianapolis. He'll function as organizational relief depth for St. Louis.

Pirates released RHP Blaine Boyer.

Boyer was inked to a minor league deal in mid-April after being designated for assignment by the Mets. But, he was woeful at Triple-A Indianapolis, posting a 13.50 ERA and walking nine over eight innings. He should be able to resurface with another minor league deal somewhere, but it's never a good sign when the Pirates don't think you're good enough to pitch for their Triple-A squad.

Pirates signed RHP Blaine Boyer to a minor league contract.

Boyer was designated for assignment by the Mets after allowing eight runs on 13 hits over his first 6 2/3 innings this season. The 29-year-old right-hander has a tough time against left-handed hitters, but the ground ball specialist has some value if used appropriately.

Blaine Boyer has elected to become a free agent.

Boyer was designated for assignment earlier this week and chose free agency over an assignment to Triple-A Buffalo. The 29-year-old right-hander allowed eight runs on 13 hits over 6 2/3 innings with the Mets, but is a useful ground ball pitcher.

Mets designated RHP Blaine Boyer for assignment.

New York signed Boyer to a minor league deal after he posted a 4.29 ERA and woeful 29/29 K/BB ratio over 57 innings last season with the Diamondbacks. Boyer has a big arm, but his results have been largely unimpressive at the major league level. He had a 7.71 ERA and a 2.14 WHIP in 4 2/3 innings this season.

Blaine Boyer took the loss in relief after giving up four runs in the 11th inning Sunday against the Nationals.

We just can't see why the Mets kept Boyer over Manny Acosta out of spring training. Boyer could well be gone soon, but it'd probably be in favor of Jason Isringhausen.

Blaine Boyer has claimed the final spot in the Mets' season-opening bullpen.

Jason Isringhausen will now have to decide whether he wants to remain at Mets camp for extended spring training or try to latch on with another organization. Boyer allowed only one run in 10 innings this spring to earn the job.

Blaine Boyer can opt-out of his minor league contract with the Mets on March 31.

This news would seem to improve his chances of winning the final bullpen spot over the likes of Jason Isringhausen, Mike O'Connor, Manny Acosta and Pat Misch. Boyer has allowed just one run over eight innings of work this spring while striking out seven and walking two.

Blaine Boyer was scratched from Friday's game with a stiff back.

He wanted to pitch but was vetoed by his skipper Terry Collins. Boyer posted a 4.29 ERA and woeful 29/29 K/BB ratio over 57 innings this past season with the Diamondbacks and is competing for a middle relief spot in spring training on a minor league contract.
