Reds sent INF Mike Costanzo outright to Triple-A Louisville.

Costanzo was designated for assignment earlier this week in order to clear a 40-man roster spot for Jonathan Broxton. He'll return to a .274/.377/.459 batting line with 10 homers at Louisville.

Reds designated INF Mike Costanzo for assignment.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for Jonathan Broxton, who was acquired from the Royals at Tuesday's trade deadline. Costanzo seems likely to pass through waivers.

Reds optioned INF Mike Costanzo to Triple-A Louisville.

He was sent down to make room for Kristopher Negron on the active roster. Costanzo went 1-for-18 with 10 strikeouts during his first stint in the big leagues.

Reds recalled INF Mike Costanzo from Triple-A Louisville.

Costanzo replaces the injured Scott Rolen (shoulder) on the Reds' active roster. He was hitting .303 with six homers and 24 RBI between Double-A and Triple-A this year, and will likely share time at third base with Todd Frazier. Costanzo can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Orioles released INF Mike Costanzo.

The Orioles offered Costanzo an opportunity to stay with the organization and switch from the infield to the pitching rubber, but he declined. The 26-year-old was involved in the trade that sent Miguel Tejada to Houston back in December of 2007 and is unlikely to have much of a major league career.

Mike Costanzo, one of the products of the Miguel Tejada deal with the Astros, hit a pair of homers Tuesday for Triple-A Norfolk.

A rare outburst. Costanzo put himself on the map with 27 homers in Triple-A for the Phillies last year -- drawing him enough attention that he was included in two of the winter's major trades (the Brad Lidge deal being the other) -- but he was never much of a prospect because of his extreme strikeout rate. Even International League pitchers haven't had much trouble with him this year, as he's hitting .250/.321/.381 with eight homers and 88 strikeouts in 252 at-bats.

Orioles reassigned infielder Mike Costanzo, catcher Omir Santos and outfielder Luis Terrero to minor league camp.

Costanzo slugged .513 this spring, but he also had a 13/1 K/BB ratio in 39 at-bats. He'll start at first and third and see time behind the plate for Triple-A Norfolk.

Mike Costanzo went 4-for-4 with a homer off Livan Hernandez and a double Thursday against the Twins.

Costanzo, who has been working out as a catcher, in 9-for-19 with two homers. He has 25-homer power, but that's the only part of his game that's major leaguer quality. It'd probably take a Kevin Millar trade to give him a chance of making the team.

Third baseman Mike Costanzo was traded from the Astros to the Orioles in a six-player deal.

Five weeks after the Phillies sent him to Houston in the Brad Lidge deal. Costanzo .270/.368/.490 as a 23-year-old in Double-A last season and plays a pretty good third base. The problem is that he strikes out a ton. Including his time in the AFL, he fanned 189 times in 598 at-bats last season. He has a lot of work to do if he's ever going to help a major league team.

Third baseman Mike Costanzo was traded from the Phillies to the Astros in a five-player deal.

Costanzo, a 2005 second-round pick, hit .270/.368/.490 as a 23-year-old in Double-A last season. He's currently batting .169/.268/.254 in 71 at-bats in the Arizona Fall League. The right-handed hitter strikes out a ton and doesn't have the 30-homer power to make up for it. He's a long shot to contribute in the majors.

Mike Costanzo's AFL average fell to .177 after he went 0-for-4 on Saturday.

Costanzo, a 2005 second-round pick, has only two extra-base hits and a 23/7 K/BB through 62 at-bats. The 24-year-old hit .270/.368/.490 in Double-A last season, but that came with 157 strikeouts in 508 at-bats. He'll have to cut down on the K's if he's going to have a career in the majors.

Mike Costanzo went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and six RBI for Single-A Clearwater on Thursday.

Costanzo, a 2005 second-round pick, is batting .255/.314/.418 in 110 at-bats. The 22-year-old lacks spectacular upside, but he could develop into an average regular at third base in two or three years.
