Rays signed RHP Jonah Bayliss to a minor league contract.
Bayliss posted solid numbers for Triple-A Round Rock in 2010, holding a 3.58 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 8.4 K/9 rate, but the fact that the pitching-starved Astros never called him up is pretty telling. He'll represent depth at Triple-A. Wed, Dec 15, 2010 03:58:00 PM

Pirates designated RHP Jonah Bayliss for assignment.

Bayliss was out of options, but the Pirates didn't give him much of a chance to win a job after bringing in several veterans. It wouldn't be a loss if he's claimed on waivers.

The Pirates demoted Jonah Bayliss to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

He's been sent down to make room for Franquelis Osoria. Bayliss was called up last week and in his one appearance, he was shelled for six hits -- including three home runs -- and six runs over three innings, shooting his ERA to 8.36 in 39 games for Pittsburgh this season. Clearly, it was time to give someone else a look.

Pirates recalled RHP Jonah Bayliss from Triple-A Indianapolis.

He takes John Van Benschoten's roster spot and slides back into the bullpen. Bayliss has a 7.53 ERA in 34 2/3 innings for the Pirates this season. Maybe the Pirates should have tried someone new instead.

Pirates optioned RHP Jonah Bayliss to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Another reliever, possibly Franquelis Osoria, will be called up Tuesday to replace him. Bayliss has a 7.53 ERA in 34 2/3 innings for the Pirates this season.

RP Jonah Bayliss was struck on the palm of his pitching hand by a line drive from Delmon Young during Friday's game against the Devil Rays, but remained in the game.

"He's OK," manager Jim Tracy said. "We would not have allowed him to throw another pitch had we seen any type of swelling or anything like that." Bayliss took the loss yesterday after allowing one run in one inning.

Jonah Bayliss (quad) threw a bullpen session in Saturday and was cleared to do his first competitive pitching of the spring in a minor league game Tuesday.

Bayliss still has time to compete for a bullpen spot this month.

Pirates reliever Jonah Bayliss has been kept off the mound since Tuesday because of a strained quadriceps muscle in his left leg.

He hopes to resume pitching this weekend. Bayliss is one of the candidates to fill an opening in the Pittsburgh bullpen.

Jonah Bayliss threw two perfect innings of relief to earn his third save Wednesday for the Caribes of the VWL.

He's allowed two runs and six hits in 10 innings. Bayliss gave up seven runs in 14 2/3 innings while in the majors with the Pirates last season. He'll be a candidate to win a spot in next year's pen.

Bayliss allowed three runs in five innings during his stint in the Pittsburgh pen last month. The former Royals prospect will serve as a middle reliever.

Pirates recalled RHP Jonah Bayliss from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Bayliss, the pitcher the Pirates got from the Royals for Mark Redman, had a 1.77 ERA and a 42/20 K/BB ratio in 35 2/3 IP. It might have made more sense for the Pirates to call up Scott Stickland and find out if could generate any trade value over the next month. Bayliss wasn't going anywhere. He'll be a middle reliever.

Jonah Bayliss will serve as the closer for Triple-A Indianapolis to begin this season.

Bayliss came to the Pirates in a trade from the Royals. He had eight saves in Double-A Wichita last season.

Pirates acquired RHP Jonah Bayliss and a player to be named from the Royals for LHP Mark Redman.

This would seem to put Josh Fogg back in line for a spot as the Pirates' fifth starter, although it's possible a veteran could be brought in to compete with him. Kip Wells seemingly becomes a lot harder to pry away in trade talks. In Bayliss, the Pirates are getting a 25-year-old with a low-90s fastball, a slider and a curve. He could be a useful middle reliever. He'll probably open next season in Triple-A.

Jonah Bayliss allowed one hit 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief in the AFL today.

Bayliss made his major league debut this year, allowing six runs in 11 2/3 innings of relief for the Royals. He'll be in the mix for a spot in the team's pen in spring training, but he could probably use some Triple-A experience, even if that often seems frowned upon in Kansas City.
