Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that Jared Wells is looking to return to the major leagues after spending 2013 pitching in the independent leagues.

Wells is hoping to get a minor league invite from someone and, according to Cotillo, has received some interest. The 32-year-old hasn't appeared in the majors since 2008 and didn't post an ERA lower than 4.63 in any of his last three years in the minors.

Mariners sent RHP Jared Wells, RHP Joe Woerman and LHP Jake Woods outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

There wasn't much chance any of these guys would be claimed. Wells, who was acquired from the Padres for Cha-Seung Baek in May, gave up six runs in 5 1/3 innings in three stints with Seattle. He had a 6.23 ERA in 52 relief appearances in the PCL. Woerman couldn't survive the jump from Double-A to Triple-A last season and wasn't much of a prospect in the first place. Woods still needs better command if he's going to have a career as a major league reliever.

Mariners recalled RHP Jared Wells from Triple-A Tacoma.

Wells had a 6.23 ERA in 52 relief appearances for two PCL teams this year. He'll work in middle relief for the Mariners.

Mariners recalled RHP Jared Wells from Triple-A Tacoma.

Wells was up for a day last month. He'll likely be less than adequate in middle relief for the Mariners.

Mariners recalled RHP Jared Wells from Triple-A Tacoma.

He'll work in middle relief after taking Erik Bedard's spot on the pitching staff. Wells was acquired from the Padres for Cha-Seung Baek in late May and has posted a 5.34 ERA and 48/33 K/BB ratio in 57 1/3 innings at Triple-A.

Mariners optioned RHP Jared Wells to Triple-A Tacoma.

The Mariners traded Cha-Seung Baek to bring in Wells, but it wasn't with any intention of using Wells in the majors now. He'll be available as a middle reliever if needed later.

Mariners acquired RHP Jared Wells from the Padres in exchange for RHP Cha-Seung Baek.

Wells was recently called up from Triple-A by the Padres after posting a 5.85 ERA as Portland's closer. He's a converted starter who once had some prospect shine, but now looks like little more than a potential middle reliever thanks to a mediocre strikeout rate and shaky control.

Padres recalled RHP Jared Wells from Triple-A Portland.

David Wells would have been a better choice. Wells looked like a legitimate prospect two or three years ago, but he failed as a starter and hasn't done a whole lot since a move to the pen. He had a 5.85 ERA in 20 innings as Portland's closer.

Jared Wells gave up five runs -- four earned -- in 2 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss for the Saguaros of the AFL.

Wells has made five starts and has a 7.15 ERA in 11 1/3 innings. He was also hit hard after moving up to Triple-A last season, going 2-9 with a 7.27 ERA in 15 starts, so his stock is down. The 25-year-old might end up in the bullpen.

Double-A Portland's Jared Wells was removed after pitching a scoreless inning Wednesday and was told he's being bumped up to Triple-A Portland.

Wells was 4-3 with a 2.64 ERA, 53 H and 49/27 K/BB in 61 1/3 innings for Mobile. Cesar Carrillo's injury makes it more likely that Wells will debut in the majors during the second half.

Double-A Mobile's Jared Wells returned from the DL on Friday and allowed one run in four innings.

He had been sidelined with a hamstring strain. Wells, one of the Padres' top pitching prospects, has a 2.14 ERA in seven starts for Mobile.
Sat, May 20, 2006 01:55:00 PM

Jared Wells allowed two runs in seven innings in his first start for Double-A Mobile yesterday.

Wells, 23, was 11-3 with a 3.44 ERA, 116 H and 80/26 K/BB in 120 1/3 IP for Single-A Lake Elsinore. He's probably one of the pitchers the Reds asked for in the Joe Randa trade.
