Guerra earned the promotion after posting a 1.23 ERA and 37/8 K/BB ratio over 36 2/3 innings for Indy. He'll be used in middle relief.

Guerra was considered a top prospect at one point -- the Twins got him from the Mets in the 2008 Johan Santana trade -- but he'll turn 26 years old next April and still hasn't sniffed the major league level. The right-hander had a 4.33 ERA in 52 innings this past season at Triple-A Rochester.

Twins minor league right-hander Deolis Guerra has been transferred to a hospital in Tampa for rib resection surgery.

The surgery date has yet to be announced. Guerra was recently diagnosed with a blood clot in his shoulder and is expected to miss approximately three months following surgery. Of course, right now his overall health is the most important thing.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters Monday that the extended stay is for "precautionary" reasons. Guerra was found to have a blood clot in his right shoulder last week. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Deolis Guerra has been hospitalized with a blood clot in his shoulder that will require surgery.

The procedure is expected to keep him sidelined for the next three months. Guerra has already been removed from Venezuela's World Baseball Classic roster and is now no longer a candidate the Twins' Opening Day bullpen. The 23-year-old right-hander should be available to return around midseason.
