Ryan Spilborghs has announced his retirement from baseball.
The 34-year-old spent parts of seven seasons with the Rockies, batting .272/.345/.423, and played last year in Japan. He's taken a job as an analyst with ROOT Sports, which is a gig that he should do well in given his dry sense of humor. Feb 6 - 11:06 PM

Ryan Spilborghs has agreed in principle to a contract with the Seibu Lions of Japan's Pacific League.

That's the word from Troy Renck of the Denver Post. Spilborghs spent the entire 2012 season in the minor leagues, batting .288/.358/.415 with nine homers and 69 RBI in 124 games. He should have success in Japan.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Ryan Spilborghs is drawing serious interest in Japan.

Spilborghs, 33, 288/.358/.415 with nine homers and 69 RBI at the Triple-A level between the Rangers and Indians this past season. He'd like have to accept a minor league deal if he wants to stick around in the states.

Ryan Spilborghs has elected free agency.

Spilborghs hit a quality .288/.358/.415 with nine homers and 69 RBI between two organizations at the Triple-A level in 2012. A capable defender in all three outfield spots, he shouldn't have much difficulty receiving a spring training invite with a chance to compete for a reserve role.

Rangers acquired OF Ryan Spilborghs from the Indians in exchange for cash considerations.

He's been assigned to Triple-A Round Rock and will represent outfield depth there with Leonys Martin (thumb) out. Spilborghs, who is a career .272/.345/.423 hitter, could eventually be an option against left-handed pitching.

Indians reassigned OF Ryan Spilborghs and RHP Jeremy Accardo to minor league camp.

Spilborghs was beaten out by Aaron Cunningham in the fight for a right-handed hitting outfielder bench role. He could choose to opt out of his minor league deal. Accardo was terrific in spring training, but the Tribe elected to carry Jairo Asencio instead.

Indians signed OF Ryan Spilborghs to a minor league contract.

He'll receive an invite to spring training, where he hopes to win a bench role with the club. Spilborghs batted just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 223 plate appearances for the Rockies in 2011, but he's a career .272/.345/.423 hitter and can play all over the outfield. He should have a good shot at winning a backup spot.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Ryan Spilborghs has agreed to a minor league contract with the Indians.

The deal is pending a physical. Spilborghs is coming off a disappointing 2011 season where he batted just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 223 plate appearances. But, he's a career .272/.345/.423 hitter, can play all three outfield positions and could give the Indians more balance in their left-handed hitting-heavy outfield. He'll have to win a bench spot, with Aaron Cunningham likely representing his chief competition (though both could ultimately make the team).

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that free agent outfielder Ryan Spilborghs is likely to sign with the Indians.

The Indians are left-handed heavy in their outfield, so Spilborghs would have a good shot to crack the Opening Day roster. He might have to beat out Aaron Cunningham for a spot, though. The 32-year-old is coming off a disappointing 2011 season where he batted just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 223 plate appearances. He's a career .272/.345/.423 hitter, though, and can play all three outfield positions.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Rangers and Indians have expressed interest in Ryan Spilborghs.

Spilborghs has failed to attract much free agent interest after being non-tendered by the Rockies in mid-December. But perhaps that will now change. The 32-year-old outfielder batted just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs and 22 RBI across 223 plate appearances in 2011, but he's shown more ability than that in the past.

Rockies non-tendered OF Ryan Spilborghs.

Spilborghs was arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter. The 32-year-old earned $1.95 million this season while batting just .210/.283/.305 with three home runs, 22 RBI and a .588 OPS over 223 plate appearances. He shouldn't have any trouble finding a new home, but he has been a vastly different player outside of Coors Field during his career.

Rockies activated OF Ryan Spilborghs from the 60-day disabled list.

Spilborghs was on the disabled list twice this year due to plantar fasciitis and played in only 98 total games. He's in danger of being non-tendered this winter.

Ryan Spilborghs and Ian Stewart both hinted they would play winter ball after disappointing seasons, but their injuries and arbitration situations have put them in a holding pattern.

Both could be non-tendered this winter, making them free agents. Spilborghs, who has previously played winter ball in Mexico, spent two stints on the disabled list this season with plantar fasciitis in his right heel, limiting him to 98 games. Stewart didn't play in the instructional league due to a wrist injury and isn't expected to swing a bat until November. The Rockies have yet to make any decisions regarding either player, though Rockies owner Dick Monfort recently expressed confidence in Stewart as an option at third base moving forward.

Ryan Spilborghs appears to be over the plantar fasciitis in his right foot, but he's holding off on playing winter ball.

"My foot is great," Spilborghs said Thursday. "Been working out for two weeks." Spilborghs' suffered through an injury-shortened, disappointing season, batting just .210/.283/.305 over 98 games. He's a non-tender candidate this winter.
