Hensley, 33, had a 4.62 ERA and 42/30 K/BB ratio over 50 2/3 innings last season with the Giants. He'll need a big spring in order to win a spot in the Reds' bullpen.

Hensley will be available out of the San Francisco 'pen on Tuesday night after missing the past couple weeks with a groin strain. He has a 4.37 ERA in 45 1/3 innings.

Hensley threw to live hitters on Wednesday without incident. The right-handed reliever was placed on the disabled list August 29 and is eligible to return next Tuesday. He would seem to be on the right track.

Hensley left Friday's game after feeling discomfort behind his knee, but it sounds like he'll be fine. "I'll probably be on the bump in a day or two," the reliever said Saturday.

Test results aren't yet available, but the injury is not considered serious. Hensley was pulled from Friday's game with what was originally described as calf tightness. He remains the favorite for the final spot in the Giants' bullpen.

Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said that Clay Hensley's injury is behind his knee and is not considered serious.

Hensley was pulled from Friday's game with what was originally described as a tight right calf. However, he'll likely only need a day or so to recover and should be good to go for the start of the season.

Clay Hensley left Friday's Cactus League game with an apparent injury.

Early word is that it's some sort of lower body injury. For what it's worth, Hensley was dealing with a hamstring injury early in camp. The 32-year-old right-hander was expected to win a spot in the bullpen, so an extended absence could open the door for the likes of Steve Edlefsen, Danny Otero and Jean Machi.

Marlins designated RHP Clay Hensley for assignment.

Hensley was a valuable member of the Marlins bullpen in 2010, as he posted a 2.16 ERA while striking out over a batter per inning, even serving as the closer for a period of time. But, he dealt with injuries and fell back to a 5.19 ERA over 37 games -- nine starts this past season. Someone will give the 32-year-old a shot, though he might have to take a minor league deal.
