Indians re-signed RHP Matt Capps to a minor league contract.

Capps was released by the Indians on Monday, but the two sides were quickly able to reach a new agreement. The 29-year-old right-hander has allowed two earned runs in six innings this spring and figures to surface in Cleveland's bullpen if he can stay healthy.

Indians released RHP Matt Capps.

The Indians are hoping to retain Capps on a minor league contract. The 29-year-old right-hander allowed two earned runs and five hits in six innings this spring.

Indians manager Terry Francona said Friday that Matt Capps is still weighing his options after being informed that he would not make the Indians' Opening Day roster.

Francona informed Capps of the news a few days ago, and he now has the option to accept an assignment to Triple-A, or hit the free agent market and look for a better opportunity elsewhere. Regardless of his decision, he doesn't hold any fantasy appeal for the upcoming season.

Matt Capps will not make the Indians' 25-man roster.

The Indians gave Capps that news on Monday afternoon. He can either go to Triple-A or head back to free agency.

Matt Capps (shoulder) hopes to begin pitching in Cactus League games in two weeks.

Capps is on a more gradual throwing program than the other Indians' pitchers this spring due to last season's shoulder issues. "I know when I'm healthy, I'll take my chances with anybody," said Capps. "If I'm healthy in two weeks, and I can go out and physically compete, I think everything will work out pretty well." Capps is trying to earn a spot in the Opening Day bullpen as a non-roster invitee, which he should be able to do as long as he's healthy.

Matt Capps is on a more gradual throwing program than the other Indians' pitchers this spring.

Capps dealt with shoulder issues last season and has been throwing bullpen sessions every third day rather than every other day. The right-hander is trying to earn a spot in the Opening Day bullpen as a non-roster invitee.
Feb 18 - 9:15 PM

Indians signed RHP Matt Capps to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Capps earned $4.5 million with the Twins last season while posting a 3.68 ERA and 18/4 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old right-hander was limited to just three appearances after the All-Star break due to shoulder issues, but he should have a good chance to win a bullpen spot with the Indians if he's healthy.
Jan 31 - 4:36 PM

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins "are among several teams in talks" with Matt Capps.

The Marlins' bullpen is woefully thin, and Capps would also provide some insurance for relatively green closer Steve Cishek. The veteran right-hander held a 3.68 ERA and 1.09 WHIP for the Twins in 2012 but was limited to just 30 appearances due to shoulder trouble.
Jan 13 - 10:37 AM

The Twins have declined the $6 million club option on Matt Capps' contract for 2013.

He'll receive a $250,000 buyout and will hit free agency this winter. Capps was limited to just 30 appearances this season due to a rotator cuff injury, posting a 3.68 ERA, 14 saves and 18/4 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings.

Twins activated RHP Matt Capps from the 15-day disabled list.

The right-hander will be back in the Twins' bullpen on Monday night, though he might not see a save chance for the rest of the season because of how effective Glen Perkins was in his absence. Capps has a 3.81 ERA and 18/4 K/BB ratio in 28 1/3 innings this year for Minnesota.

Matt Capps (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a 45-pitch simulated game Saturday.

Assuming he avoids setbacks, Capps will rejoin the Twins on Monday. Look for him to be used in low-leverage situations initially, before potentially being added to a committee with Glen Perkins and Jared Burton.

Matt Capps (shoulder) will begin facing batters this week in the Twins' fall instructional league.

Capps could rejoin the Twins for the final series of their 2012 regular season schedule. He has thrown only 28 1/3 innings this year because of a rotator cuff injury and is likely to have his $6 million club option for 2013 declined this winter. Capps would then become a free agent.
Mon, Sep 17, 2012 01:47:00 PM

Matt Capps (shoulder) threw his first bullpen session Saturday since being placed on the disabled list.

Capps managed to avoid rotator cuff surgery and is hoping to rejoin the Twins' bullpen before the end of the season. Coming off a major injury, his $6 million option in 2013 is likely to be declined.
Sat, Sep 15, 2012 01:15:00 PM

Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Matt Capps (shoulder) still has a chance to return later this season.

Capps has made just two appearances since late June due to shoulder issues. It's not clear how far along he is in his rehab, but obviously the Twins haven't given up on him making a late-season impact. He almost surely wouldn't be used in save opportunities, though.
