Nick Masset has decided to retire.
MLB Trade Rumors confirmed the news, which was released via the International League transactions page. Masset, who is best known for his time with the Reds before injuries got in the way, pitched for the Braves and Marlins last season and had a 4.71 ERA over 30 appearances this season with the Nationals' Triple-A affiliate. Miami released Masset at the end of spring training, but he's back in the organization now on a Triple-A deal. The 32-year-old righty will function as organizational relief depth this season for the Marlins. He posted a 5.80 ERA in 45 innings last summer out of the Rockies' bullpen.

Masset posted an ugly 5.80 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, and 36/24 K/BB ratio in 45 innings (51 appearances) last season for the Rockies. He hasn't been an effective major league reliever since 2011 and is doubtful to make the Marlins' bullpen out of spring training. The right-hander turns 33 years old in May.

Nick Masset injured his left knee Saturday in a relief appearance versus the Dodgers.

Masset gave up three hits, a walk, and four earned runs in the seventh inning, and then Rockies manager Walt Weiss revealed after the game that the righty also banged up his knee. The severity of the injury is unknown.

Nick Masset will not appeal his three-game suspension for throwing at Braves catcher Evan Gattis last Thursday.

He'll begin serving the suspension Tuesday. Masset had worked the last two days, so the timing works out well for him to go ahead and get the suspension over with.

MLB suspended Nick Masset for three games and fined him an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at Braves catcher Evan Gattis last Thursday.

No word on if he intends to appeal. Braves reliever David Carpenter, who was ejected after throwing at Corey Dickerson in the same game, only received a fine.
