Marlins re-signed RHP Nick Masset to a minor league contract.

Miami released Masset at the end of spring training, but he's back in the organization now on a Triple-A deal. The 32-year-old righty will function as organizational relief depth this season for the Marlins. He posted a 5.80 ERA in 45 innings last summer out of the Rockies' bullpen.

Marlins signed RHP Nick Masset to a minor league contract.

Masset posted an ugly 5.80 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, and 36/24 K/BB ratio in 45 innings (51 appearances) last season for the Rockies. He hasn't been an effective major league reliever since 2011 and is doubtful to make the Marlins' bullpen out of spring training. The right-hander turns 33 years old in May.

Rockies activated RHP Nick Masset from the 15-day disabled list.

He's been out the last couple weeks with a left knee injury. Masset has put up a 4.94 ERA over 28 relief appearances for the Rockies this season.

Rockies placed RHP Nick Masset on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee injury.

Masset injured the knee during an appearance Saturday. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Brooks Brown has taken Masset's spot in the bullpen.

Nick Masset injured his left knee Saturday in a relief appearance versus the Dodgers.

Masset gave up three hits, a walk, and four earned runs in the seventh inning, and then Rockies manager Walt Weiss revealed after the game that the righty also banged up his knee. The severity of the injury is unknown.

Nick Masset will not appeal his three-game suspension for throwing at Braves catcher Evan Gattis last Thursday.

He'll begin serving the suspension Tuesday. Masset had worked the last two days, so the timing works out well for him to go ahead and get the suspension over with.

MLB suspended Nick Masset for three games and fined him an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at Braves catcher Evan Gattis last Thursday.

No word on if he intends to appeal. Braves reliever David Carpenter, who was ejected after throwing at Corey Dickerson in the same game, only received a fine.

Nick Masset was ejected from Thursday's game against the Braves after hitting Evan Gattis with a pitch in the ninth inning.

Masset was ejected immediately, as warnings were already issued after David Carpenter hit Corey Dickerson with a pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning and was ejected. Fortunately, Gattis simply took his base and didn't escalate the situation.

Rockies purchased the contract of RHP Nick Masset from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Masset hasn't pitched in the majors since 2011 due to shoulder issues, but he's getting the call after posting a 9/1 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in Triple-A. The Rockies optioned Ryan Wheeler to the minors in a corresponding roster move.

The Rockies have paid a $100,000 retention bonus to keep Nick Masset in camp beyond Tuesday's deadline.

Masset underwent surgery in mid-March to clean up a staph infection from his right shoulder but is already back to appearing in Cactus League games. He will continue fighting for a spot in Colorado's bullpen. Chances are the right-hander will be sent to Triple-A.

Nick Masset recently underwent surgery to have a staph infection removed from his right shoulder.

Staph infections can be scary, but Masset has returned to Rockies' camp and is back on schedule. The reliever thinks he still has time to get ready for Opening Day.

Rockies signed RHP Nick Masset to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Masset didn't pitch at all in 2013 and was limited to just 9 2/3 rehab innings in 2012 due to injury. He underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in August, which means he'll be a major heath question mark this season. However, if his arm is sound, he could make for a nice under-the-radar signing for the Rockies. Masset posted a 3.15 while striking out nearly a batter per inning from 2009-11.

Nick Masset will undergo season-ending surgery next week for thoracic outlet syndrome.

More disappointing news for Masset, who hasn't pitched in the majors since 2011 due to shoulder issues. The new injury consists of what Reds head trainer Paul Lessard called an "impinged nerve" while the operation requires the removal of the first rib. The 31-year-old will likely have to accept a minor league deal this offseason.

Nick Masset (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Saturday afternoon at Arizona's Chase Field.

Masset hasn't pitched in a major league game since the 2011 season because of shoulder issues. He had surgery last September and is still in the early stages of his rehab. There is no timetable for the right-hander's return.
