Nickeas declared free agency earlier this week but has decided to re-up with the Mets. He'll receive an invite to spring training.

Nickeas was outrighted off the Mets' 40-man roster last week and turned down an assignment to Triple-A Buffalo. He will look to join up with a new organization.

Mets sent C Mike Nickeas outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

The move clears him from the 40-man roster. Nickeas batted just .174/.242/.229 with one home run, 13 RBI and a .471 OPS in 122 plate appearances with the Mets this season and is unlikely to get significant playing time in the majors again in the near future.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Mike Nickeas will "very likely" be New York's backup catcher in 2012.

The Mets non-tendered Ronny Paulino on Monday, leaving Nickeas as Josh Thole's backup. The 28-year-old backstop is a light hitter and can be ignored in fantasy.

	7	Drew Hutchison D.L. Drew Hutchison (elbow) is on track to face live hitters in about three weeks. Hutchison is currently making his way back from Tommy John surgery last August. While the 22-year-old right-hander is unlikely to see any game action until late in the season, he feels good about his progress. "You always want to do more but you know you have to follow the process and do what they tell you to do because that’s what’s in your best interest," said Hutchison. "I feel good, which is good, but you also realize that it’s the process and you need to follow the process." May 8
	8	Kyle Drabek D.L. Kyle Drabek (elbow) expects to throw live batting practice in the next week or two. Drabek threw a bullpen session Monday in extended spring training.
