Blue Jays optioned C Erik Kratz to Triple-A Buffalo.
Kratz appeared in seven games with the Blue Jays, going 2-for-10 (.200) with a homer and four RBI. He'll continue to provide depth at Triple-A and should get another opportunity with the Jays soon enough. Apr 13 - 4:53 PM

Erik Kratz launched a pinch-hit homer in Monday's loss to the Rays.

Kratz was just called back up Sunday when Casey Janssen went on the DL and took David Price deep in the eight to break up Tampa's shutout. As the third catcher, most of his playing time while he's up will probably be as a pinch-hitter.

Blue Jays recalled C Erik Kratz from Triple-A Buffalo.

He takes the roster spot of the injured Casey Janssen (back). Kratz will serve as a third catcher.

Blue Jays optioned C Erik Kratz to Triple-A Buffalo.

The news was tweeted by Kratz's agent, which means that Josh Thole has won the backup catcher job. It's a surprising decision, as Kratz hit .400 (10-for-25) with two homers this spring, but apparently the Jays value Thole's ability to catch knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.

Erik Kratz hit a pair of homers against his former team to lead the Blue Jays past the Phillies 3-1 on Thursday.

The Phillies traded Kratz to the Jays for Brad Lincoln back in December. Kratz has been competing with Josh Thole for the backup gig in Toronto this spring, but there's little doubt that he'll be the choice. He's hitting .455 in 22 at-bats.
Mar 20 - 4:38 PM

Blue Jays acquired C Erik Kratz and LHP Rob Rasmussen from the Phillies for RHP Brad Lincoln.

Kratz figures to operate as Dioner Navarro's backup, meaning Josh Thole will likely no longer be on the roster. The 33-year-old backstop has batted .228/.291/.435 while slugging nine homers each of the last two seasons with the Phillies.

Phillies activated C Erik Kratz from the 15-day disabled list.

He hadn't been slated for activation until the second half, but Ben Revere's injury sped up that timetable. The Phillies will carry three catchers for the time being with Carlos Ruiz a little banged up.

Erik Kratz (knee) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Monday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Kratz should be back in the major leagues by the end of this week. He has been on the disabled list since June 9 because of a medial meniscus tear in his left knee.

Erik Kratz (knee) is expected to return closer to the short end of his 4-6 week timetable.

Kratz underwent surgery in mid-June to repair the medial meniscus tear in his left knee. "He’ll be closer to four weeks than six weeks," Phillies GM Ruben Amaro said. "He’s coming along really well." Kratz will visit with knee specialist Dr. Michael Ciccotti later this week to see if he's ready to begin a rehab assignment. He should be activated shortly after the All-Star break.

Erik Kratz underwent surgery on Wednesday morning to repair the medial meniscus tear in his left knee.

Kratz is expected to be out for the next 6-8 weeks. Humberto Quintero and Steven Lerud will serve as the Phillies' catchers until Carlos Ruiz (hamstring) is healthy.

Erik Kratz will undergo surgery on his left knee to repair a medial meniscus tear.

A timetable for his return will be known after the surgery, but obviously he'll be on the shelf for a while. The Phillies are going with Humberto Quintero and Steven Lerud at catcher until Carlos Ruiz returns later this month.

Phillies placed C Erik Kratz on the 15-day disabled list with a left medial meniscus tear.

The severity isn't known at this time, but Kratz will likely be out for a while. With Carlos Ruiz (hamstring) still about a week away from a return, Humberto Quintero will serve as the Phillies' starting backstop for a while. Steven Lerud has been summoned to provide depth.

Erik Kratz said he felt a "pop" in his left knee during Saturday's game against the Brewers.

He will be checked by team doctors, but Phillies skipper Charlie Manuel indicated that it didn't look good. He'll all but certainly require a trip to the disabled list. With Carlos Ruiz also sidelined, Humberto Quintero stands to serve as the Phillies' starting backstop for the time being.

Erik Kratz launched a two-run home run in Friday's loss to the Brewers.

Kratz continues to thrive with Carlos Ruiz (hamstring) on the disabled list, hitting .286 with six homers and 14 RBI over his last 17 games. The 32-year-old journeyman has driven in a run in seven straight. Ruiz is aiming to return in about 10 days, but Kratz is worth considering in two-catcher formats right now.

Erik Kratz went 2-for-4 and hit his seventh homer Monday against the Marlins.

Kratz played so poorly during Carlos Ruiz's 25-game suspension that the Phillies considered demoting him and keeping Humberto Quintero when Ruiz returned. That didn't end up happening, and now Kratz has taken full advantage of Ruiz's latest absence, hitting five homers in 14 games since Ruiz got hurt. He now has 16 homers in 262 at-bats over the last two seasons.
