Kratz was designated for assignment by the Pirates on July 19 and elected to become a free agent a few days alter. He was 6-for-56 (.107) in Pittsburgh and is no more than a depth signing for the Blue Jays. Jul 28 - 9:05 AM

Erik Kratz has elected free agency.

Kratz cleared waivers after being designated for assignment, but he's decided to look for a gig elsewhere rather than accept a minor league assignment. He hit only .107 (6-for-56) with Pittsburgh.
Jul 22 - 5:03 PM

Pirates designated C Erik Kratz for assignment.

Kratz gets the boot now that Francisco Cervelli is ready to return from the disabled list. The 36-year-old hit just .107 (6-for-56) during his month-long stay with Pittsburgh.
Jul 19 - 3:47 PM

Erik Kratz hit a solo home run in Monday's win over the Giants.

In a game that featured 11 hits combined, it was the 36-year-old journeyman catcher who homered off all-everything ace Madison Bumgarner to lead the Bucs to victory. The homer was Kratz' first of the season -- his first since 2014, in fact -- and just his third hit in 47 at-bats. He'll continue to get some run with the Pirates while Francisco Cervelli is out, but Kratz isn't a big league starting catcher at this point.
Jun 20 - 9:58 PM

Pirates acquired C Erik Kratz from the Angels for cash considerations.

Kratz will function as the primary backup to Chris Stewart while Francisco Cervelli is sidelined with a broken hand. Stewart (ankle) also has an injury of his own. Kratz, 35, hit just .067/.097/.100 with a 14/1 K/BB ratio in 31 plate appearances with the Astros earlier this season and can go on being ignored in standard fantasy leagues.
Jun 11 - 3:10 PM

Angels signed C Erik Kratz to a minor league contract.

Kratz was designated for assignment by the Astros on May 16 and subsequently released. The veteran catcher is a .210/.261/.381 career hitter at the big league level. He will report to Triple-A Salt Lake.
May 26 - 3:12 PM

Astros released C Erik Kratz.

Kratz was designated for assignment by the Astros on May 16 and passed through waivers unclaimed. The veteran catcher owns a .210/.261/.381 career batting line in MLB.
May 24 - 4:38 PM

Astros designated C Erik Kratz for assignment.

The Astros brought in Kratz via a trade in late February. The 35-year-old backstop saw 30 plate appearances with the major league club this season, managing just a single and a double in that space. With a career triple-slash of .210/.261/.381 in the bigs, Kratz could easily slide through waivers unclaimed.
May 16 - 12:42 PM

Astros acquired C Erik Kratz from the Padres for RHP Dan Straily.

Kratz will presumably serve as a backup to Jason Castro until Max Stassi is ready to return from hamate bone surgery. The 35-year-old is a .218/.270/.397 hitter in the majors, so don't expect any fantasy value here.
Mar 28 - 8:29 PM

Padres signed C Erik Kratz to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

It's not a great landing spot, as the Padres already have Derek Norris, Austin Hedges and Christian Bethancourt on the roster (although they seem likely to trade one of the first two players). Kratz hit just .192/.214/.269 in 16 games in the majors in 2015 and will be around for depth.

Erik Kratz has elected free agency.

The veteran backstop traveled through four organizations during the 2015 season, spending time with the Royals, Red Sox, Mariners and Phillies. He appeared in just 16 games at the big league level, slashing .192/.214/.269 with three RBI. He'll look to score a minor league deal this winter with an opportunity to compete for a backup catcher job.

Phillies sent C Erik Kratz outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Kratz had himself quite a ride this season. He started the year with the Royals, was subsequently designated for assignment in June before being picked up by the Red Sox, who then designated him for assignment, at which point he was picked up by the Mariners in early July, released in mid-July and signed by the Phillies on July 17. Phew. Across all of that action, he accrued five hits in 26 at-bats. He slashed .256/.351/.471 in the minors over 172 at-bats, which isn't too shabby considering his decidedly jumbled season.

Phillies purchased the contract of C Erik Kratz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Kratz, who previously played with the Phillies from 2011-2013, returned to the organization in July on a minor league deal. He'll function as a third catcher down the stretch.

Phillies signed C Erik Kratz to a minor league contract.

The veteran backstop continues to bounce around from organization to organization hoping to land a backup role in the big leagues. He will report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Fri, Jul 17, 2015 07:52:00 PM

Mariners released C Erik Kratz.

Kratz was just signed a couple weeks ago and batted .205/.279/.308 over 10 games. The M's are reportedly close to trading for a catcher, so there appears to no longer be room for Kratz.
