Date:

Erik Kratz will undergo surgery on his left knee to repair a medial meniscus tear.

A timetable for his return will be known after the surgery, but obviously he'll be on the shelf for a while. The Phillies are going with Humberto Quintero and Steven Lerud at catcher until Carlos Ruiz returns later this month.
Jun 10 - 6:06 PM

Phillies placed C Erik Kratz on the 15-day disabled list with a left medial meniscus tear.

The severity isn't known at this time, but Kratz will likely be out for a while. With Carlos Ruiz (hamstring) still about a week away from a return, Humberto Quintero will serve as the Phillies' starting backstop for a while. Steven Lerud has been summoned to provide depth.
Jun 9 - 10:03 AM

Erik Kratz said he felt a "pop" in his left knee during Saturday's game against the Brewers.

He will be checked by team doctors, but Phillies skipper Charlie Manuel indicated that it didn't look good. He'll all but certainly require a trip to the disabled list. With Carlos Ruiz also sidelined, Humberto Quintero stands to serve as the Phillies' starting backstop for the time being.
Jun 8 - 10:57 PM

Erik Kratz launched a two-run home run in Friday's loss to the Brewers.

Kratz continues to thrive with Carlos Ruiz (hamstring) on the disabled list, hitting .286 with six homers and 14 RBI over his last 17 games. The 32-year-old journeyman has driven in a run in seven straight. Ruiz is aiming to return in about 10 days, but Kratz is worth considering in two-catcher formats right now.
Jun 8 - 12:07 AM

Erik Kratz went 2-for-4 and hit his seventh homer Monday against the Marlins.

Kratz played so poorly during Carlos Ruiz's 25-game suspension that the Phillies considered demoting him and keeping Humberto Quintero when Ruiz returned. That didn't end up happening, and now Kratz has taken full advantage of Ruiz's latest absence, hitting five homers in 14 games since Ruiz got hurt. He now has 16 homers in 262 at-bats over the last two seasons.
Jun 3 - 10:14 PM

Erik Kratz hit a game-tying solo home run Sunday as the Phillies came back to beat the Reds 3-2.

Kratz hit his solo shot off Reds closer Aroldis Chapman in the bottom of the ninth, and it was quickly followed by a walkoff solo blast from Freddy Galvis. Talk about unpredictable. Kratz will likely get regular playing time at catcher over the next few weeks while Carlos Ruiz recovers from the right hamstring strain that he suffered earlier in Sunday's game.
May 19 - 4:43 PM

Erik Kratz hit a three-run homer in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.

Kratz put the game out of reach after Ben Revere's go-ahead single in the eighth inning. All four of those runs came off the struggling Mitchell Boggs. Kratz has been pretty terrible so far this year, but the Phillies will be getting a much needed upgrade at catcher with Carlos Ruiz set to return from suspension next week
Apr 21 - 11:45 PM

Erik Kratz doubled in Friday's shutout loss to the Blue Jays.

Kratz is having a decent spring, hitting .279 with a pair of homers and 11 RBI over 15 games. He has a chance to be relevant in deeper mixed leagues to begin the season, as he'll see the bulk of the playing time behind the plate while Carlos Ruiz serves his 25-game suspension.
Mar 29 - 9:23 PM

Erik Kratz homered, doubled twice and drove in three runs to lead the Phillies to a 7-6 win over the Braves on Friday.

Kratz will be the Phillies' everyday catcher until Carlos Ruiz returns, giving him some extra value in April. He'd even make for a decent No. 2 catcher in mixed leagues during the first month. Just make sure to drop him afterwards.
Mar 22 - 4:52 PM

Erik Kratz hit a three-run homer Wednesday in the victory over the Reds.

That Kratz has nine homers in 108 at-bats as a 32-year-old rookie is one of the coolest stories of the season. He hit 100 in nine seasons in the minors before getting his first real shot at major league playing time this year.

Erik Kratz homered and tallied two RBI in the Phillies' 3-0 victory over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Kratz blasted a solo shot off Joe Saunders in the third inning to open the game's scoring, then added a bases-loaded walk in the fourth. With the recent injury to Carlos Ruiz, Kratz will share starting catching duties in Philadelphia with Brian Schneider.

Erik Kratz turned in his first career three-hit game to help the Phillies beat the Brewers 7-6 in 10 innings Wednesday.

Kratz's third hit was a double that put the Phillies in a position to win the game in the 10th. He also had an RBI single earlier. Kratz, a 32-year-old journeyman with just 21 major league games under his belt, is 6-for-16 in 10 appearances for the Phillies this season.

Phillies recalled C Erik Kratz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Kratz will provide depth at catcher while Brian Schneider recovers from an ankle sprain. The 32-year-old has a cool .867 OPS in 37 games this season at Triple-A.
Mon, Jun 25, 2012 02:37:00 PM

Phillies optioned C Erik Kratz to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He didn't receive an at-bat in his latest stint with the Phils. A corresponding roster move will be announced prior to Wednesday's game.
