Orioles recalled infielder Brandon Fahey from Triple-A Norfolk.
Fahey has hit .241/.267/.345 in 41 games for the Orioles this season, but that's actually an improvement over his previous career line. He's not a major leaguer. Fri, Sep 5, 2008 06:12:00 PM

Orioles optioned infielder Brandon Fahey to Triple-A Norfolk.

Fahey hit just .241/.267/.345 in 41 games and now has a 588 OPS in 434 career plate appearances. He's a mediocre utility man at best.

Filling in for Brian Roberts at second base Friday, Brandon Fahey went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, leading the Orioles to a 10-4 victory over the Rangers.

Both of Fahey's hits were doubles. Freddie Bynum, who replaced Roberts at the top of the order, also drove in three runs. Every Orioles starter reached base as Rangers' starter Vicente Padilla was awful before he left the game with a thumb injury. Fahey is hitting .238 with six RBI and four doubles in two different stints with the Orioles this season.

Orioles recalled infielder Brandon Fahey from Triple-A Norfolk.

Fahey is strictly a 25th man, but Alex Cintron isn't much more than that himself. As a result, Fahey figures to get a chance to win the starting job at shortstop. He'd be the fourth regular tried at the position this year.

Brandon Fahey is the likely candidate to be called up if the Orioles stay in-house in their search for another shortstop.

He'd backup Alex Cintron. The move won't be made until after the three-game series with the Cubs, as the Orioles are expected to face lefties in their next two contests. Fahey is hitting .280 with a homer and 20 RBI at Triple-A, and would likely take the roster spot of Oscar Salazar.

Orioles optioned infielder Brandon Fahey to Triple-A Norfolk.

Elder Torres keeps his spot for now, though he figures to trade places with Alex Cintron soon enough. Fahey was hitting .200/.231/.240 in 25 at-bats. There are no shortage of better utility candidates stuck in Triple-A.

Brandon Fahey went 2-for-3 with a two-run triple and a walk Tuesday versus the Marlins.

Fahey appears to be the lesser of two evils at shortstop for the Orioles right now. He's hitting an empty .250 in 44 at-bats this spring, but that's better than Luis Hernandez's .194 mark, and he's made a higher percentage of the plays on defense, even if he doesn't have Hernandez's range. Realistically, the Orioles figure to have the worst shortstop situation in the majors if they stick with any of their internal options.

Brandon Fahey rejoined the starting lineup on Friday and went 0-for-2.

Fahey missed Thursday's game after having fluid drained from his sore thigh.

Brandon Fahey had fluid drained Thursday from his sore thigh.

The light-hitting infielder is expected to be available on Friday.

Orioles recalled infielder Brandon Fahey from Triple-A Norfolk.

Fahey isn't going to see starts in left field, like he did last year, so he shouldn't do a lot of harm. He has a chance to have a career as a light-hitting utility infielder. If he doesn't end up on a Tony La Russa team someday, we'd be stunned.

Orioles optioned infielder Brandon Fahey to Triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles kept J.R. House over Fahey, who hit .231/.268/.308 in 39 at-bats. He'll be back in September.

Brandon Fahey is in the starting lineup at shortstop for the second time in three days on Saturday.

Before Fahey was called up, the Orioles indicated that it'd likely by Chris Gomez two-thirds of the time and Freddie Bynum one-third of the time as the replacements for Miguel Tejada. Bynum, though, hasn't gotten a start since homering against the Diamondbacks a week ago, suggesting that interim manager Dave Trembley doesn't like his defense at all. Fahey probably is the top defender of the three, but he's also one of the league's worst hitters. If he has to play, he should be batting ninth, not second like he is tonight.

Orioles recalled infielder Brandon Fahey from Triple-A Norfolk.

At least he's not penciled in to see any time in left field this time. He received 43 starts there last year and ended up hitting .235/.307/.307 in 91 games overall. He was at .227/.296/.315 in 286 at-bats for Norfolk this year. As long as he's used strictly as a 25th man, he shouldn't be able to do too much damage.

Brandon Fahey went hitless on Wednesday, leaving him with a .183 average in 93 at-bats since the All-Star break.

He's hitting .245/.314/.321 overall. It'd be one thing if the Orioles actually needed Fahey, a natural second baseman, as a middle infielder. As a corner outfielder, he's a completely ridiculous option. He should have been sent down months ago, and while it'd be pointless to demote him now, the Orioles should have at least called up Luis Terrero to act as an alternative with Corey Patterson hurt and Jeff Conine gone.

Brandon Fahey is starting in left field Wednesday against the Royals.

Fahey had been sidelined since hurting his right hand on Saturday.
