White Sox acquired OF Buck Coats from the Royals for cash considerations.

Coats, 27, was batting .315/.377/.389 with two RBI in 54 at-bats with Triple-A Omaha, appearing exclusively in left field. He has a .193/.242/.333 batting line over 57 major league at-bats and most recently played with the Blue Jays in 2008. Consider him organizational depth.

Royals signed outfielder Buck Coats to a minor league contract.

Coats, 27, hit .302/.361/.416 with six homers and 56 RBI in 2009 while playing at the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas. He's a longshot to crack the Royals' 2010 roster and is probably just organizational depth.

Blue Jays sent outfielder Buck Coats and RHP T.J. Beam outright to Triple-A Las Vegas; reassigned RHP Bryan Bullington to minor league camp.

The Jays keep whittling away at their 40-man roster in anticipation of making more waiver claims. Bullington and Fabio Castro were both bumped last week, so they have four openings now. The 26-year-old Coats had been on the 40-man since Dec. 2007, even though the team didn't think he was worthy of a September callup last year. He was 3-for-11 this spring.

Blue Jays optioned OF Buck Coats to Triple-A Syracuse.

Infielder Joe Inglett will take his roster spot. Coats, 25, hit .200 in 5 at-bats with the Blue Jays.

Blue Jays acquired outfielder Buck Coats from the Reds for a player to be named or cash.

Coats, a left-handed hitter, would be a candidate for a bench spot if Adam Lind begins next season in the minors. The 25-year-old hit .303/.363/.435 for the Triple-A Iowa before the Reds picked him up from the Cubs for the final month of last season. He then went 7-for-34 with 15 strikeouts in September. That he has some speed and infield experience makes him an acceptable 25th man, but he's unlikely to be anything more.

Coats, a waiver claim from the Cubs, went 7-for-34 with 15 strikeouts for the Reds in September. He should clear waivers this time.

Reds recalled outfielder Buck Coats from Triple-A Louisville.

Coats, 25, was acquired on waivers from the Cubs last week after hitting .303/.363/.435 for Triple-A Iowa. He's an option in the infield, but the Reds will use him as a reserve outfielder and pinch-hitter.

Reds acquired outfielder Buck Coats from the Cubs for a player to be named.

Oddly, the Reds apparently weren't confident he'd get to them on waivers. Coats, 25, was hitting .303/.363/.435 for Triple-A Iowa before being designated for assignment last week to make room for Craig Monroe on the 40-man roster. He can play some infield, while will help his chances of having a career as a 25th man. That's about the best he can hope for. The Reds figure to call him up next month.

Cubs designated outfielder Buck Coats for assignment.

The move makes room for Craig Monroe on the 40-man roster. The Cubs are expected to send Jake Fox to Triple-A once Monroe arrives tomorrow, opening a spot on the 25-man roster. Coats served two stints in the majors with the Cubs in the second half of last year. He was hitting .303/.363/.435 with Triple-A Iowa this season.

Cubs optioned outfielder Buck Coats to Triple-A Iowa.

Coats battled knee problems this spring, but the Cubs weren't forced to place him on the disabled list. He'll be a candidate to join the team if a fifth outfielder is needed later on.

OF Buck Coats is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his right knee Monday.

Coats woke up on Saturday with stiffness in the back of his knee. "Like everything else, I thought it would go away and it didn't go away," said Coats. "It might not be anything." Buck is batting .333 in 20 games this spring.

Buck Coats went 2-for-5 with a homer and four RBI for Aragua of the VWL on Friday.

He had been batting just .156 in 32 at-bats. The Cubs seem to think Coats could have a future in a utility role, though they also believed for years that Jose Macias was a useful player. The two have way too many similarities right now, but at least Coats is young enough to improve.

Cubs recalled infielder-outfielder Buck Coats from Triple-A Iowa.

Coats went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in six days on the roster last month. He might see some time in the middle infield, but he shouldn't be of use in NL-only leagues.
