Kevin Frandsen admitted Saturday that while he's seen as the utility man, he would like a chance to compete for the team's starting job at second base.
At the moment, Danny Espinosa is penciled in as the Nationals starter at second base, but with the inconsistency he has shown over the years Frandsen could have an opportunity to state his case with a strong showing this spring. The veteran infielder hit .259/.299/.309 over 236 plate appearances with the Nationals in 2014. Dec 13 - 11:18 AM

James Wagner of the Washington Post reports that the Nationals are close to a new contract with Kevin Frandsen.

Frandsen is arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter. It's not clear how much the deal is for, but MLBTradeRumors.com projected Frandsen to earn $1.2 million. The utility player batted .259/.299/.309 in 236 plate appearances this season while seeing time at four different positions.

Kevin Frandsen went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Frandsen had an RBI groundout in the first inning, and he singled and scored in the third inning. The 32-year-old also added a double on the afternoon. He's been starting at third base with Anthony Rendon sidelined, and he should continue to see time at the hot corner until Rendon returns.

Nationals signed INF Kevin Frandsen to a one-year, $900,000 contract.

Frandsen could earn more with incentives. The 31-year-old hit .234/.296/.341 with five home runs and 26 RBI over 278 plate appearances with the Phillies last year and will serve as a utility infielder with his new club.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Nationals will sign infielder Kevin Frandsen.

The deal might already be done, as he was in Nats' camp on Wednesday morning. Frandsen opted for free agency on Tuesday after being outrighted off the Phillies' 40-man roster. The 31-year-old will likely land a bench job with the Nationals out of spring training.
Mar 26 - 9:26 AM

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports that the Nationals are interested in Kevin Frandsen.

There could be room for him on the bench after the Nats sent down Tyler Moore. Frandsen opted for free agency earlier Tuesday after being outrighted off the Phillies' 40-man roster. Kilgore says there are 1-2 other teams interested in the veteran infielder.
Mar 25 - 6:20 PM

Kevin Frandsen has elected free agency.

Frandsen was outrighted off the Phillies' 40-man roster over the weekend and has decided to forfeit his $900,000 salary for 2014 rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A. He'll hope to latch on elsewhere as a bench player.
Mar 25 - 1:29 PM

Phillies sent INF Kevin Frandsen outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Frandsen now has 72 hours to accept the assignment or become a free agent. If accepting, he would remain in camp with the Phillies where he still has a chance to crack the Opening Day roster as a reserve infielder.

Kevin Frandsen hit a walkoff solo home run in the Phillies' win over the Mets on Saturday evening.

Kevin Frandsen said that he's dealing with some soreness in his left wrist, but that he should be OK.

Frandsen was forced to exit Wednesday's game after he was hit by a Justin Verlander fastball, but it sounds like the Phillies pulled him for precautionary reasons. He has the stitching from the ball imprinted on his wrist, so at least he has a nice souvenir. The 30-year-old is expected to open the season on the Phillies' bench.
