White Sox selected INF Angel Sanchez from the Angels with the 17th pick in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft.

Sanchez had a decent .320/.390/.407 slash line in 107 games this summer at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He could crack Chicago's Opening Day roster as a backup infielder.

Angel Sanchez (back) will not make his spring debut Thursday as previously hoped.

Sanchez has been dealing with a tight back this spring after slipping and falling while taking his mother's luggage down a flight of stairs in early-February. The 28-year-old infield took took batting practice off coaches on Tuesday and tracked pitches against minor leaguers, but he's apparently not close to game-ready.

Angel Sanchez (back) fielded ground balls and took swings off a tee Wednesday.

Sanchez is being brought along slowly this spring after injuring his back while taking his mother's luggage down a flight of stairs in early-February. "It felt way better than [Tuesday], so it's improving," said Sanchez. The 28-year-old infielder is a non-roster player this spring after batting just .240/.305/.285 with one home run and 28 RBI in 110 games last season at the major league level.

Astros designated INF Angel Sanchez for assignment.

The 28-year-old shortstop batted just .240/.305/.285 with one home run and 28 RBI in 110 games last season at the major league level. With the Astros adding shortstop Jed Lowrie over the offseason, Sanchez was unlikely to see nearly as much playing time in 2012.

Angel Sanchez has just four hits in his last 24 at-bats.

We could see this coming. Sanchez got off to a red-hot start, but the journeyman simply didn't have the skills to sustain it. He's also had trouble getting into the lineup since Clint Barmes returned from the DL, and he'll have even more problems once Jeff Keppinger comes back.

Angel Sanchez went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 11-2 victory over the Cubs.

It's time to start paying attention to this formerly light-hitting infielder. In relief of the injured Clint Barmes, Sanchez is now batting .395/.438/.512 while knocking in eight runs. He definitely needs to be owned in NL-only leagues until Barmes returns.

Angel Sanchez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies.

The light-hitting infielder wrapped a pair of singles off Roy Halladay, which qualifies as a career highlight for him. Sanchez will get the most playing time at shortstop until Clint Barmes returns from injury, but he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.

Angel Sanchez and Oswaldo Navarro, who are vying to replace Clint Barmes at shortstop for the Astros, both went hitless Saturday against the Nationals.

Sanchez was a surprisingly solid fill-in for the Astros last season and likely has the advantage in the competition, but he's hitting just .216 with one extra-base hit in 37 at-bats this spring. Fortunately for him, Navarro is at .156 in 32 at-bats. Tommy Manzella may also be an option for Houston, even though he was optioned out of major league camp before Barmes got hurt.

Sanchez has been sidelined for a few days with an upper back strain. He was cleared to return to baseball activities Monday and isn't far away from returning to the lineup. The 27-year-old infielder is batting .250 (7-for-28) with a double and one RBI this spring.
