Angel Sanchez has signed with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the independent Atlantic League.

Sanchez, a .254/.303/.307 career hitter in 630 plate appearances at the major league level, failed to receive an offer this spring or early summer from an MLB-affiliated club. The 30-year-old infielder was an 11th-round pick of the Royals in the 2011 Amateur Draft.

White Sox sent INF Angel Sanchez outright to Triple-A Charlotte.

A Rule 5 pick, Sanchez cleared waivers and was rejected when offered back to the Angels. Sanchez no longer is required to be on the 25-man roster and will continue to provide depth in the minors.

Sanchez, a Rule 5 pick, has been on the disabled list for a little over a month with a lower back strain and is seven games into a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. If he goes unclaimed, he will be offered back to the Angels.

Sanchez had a decent .320/.390/.407 slash line in 107 games this summer at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He could crack Chicago's Opening Day roster as a backup infielder.
