Manny Corpas was ejected from Thursday's game against the Nationals in the sixth inning for his involvement in a benches-clearing incident.

Benches cleared after Cubs' right-hander Lendy Castillo threw inside on Bryce Harper. It's not clear what Corpas did to get ejected, but a number of Nationals' players were yelling in his direction.

Cubs purchased the contract of RHP Manny Corpas from Triple-A Iowa.

As expected. Corpas, who missed the entire 2011 season recovering from Tommy John surgery, posted a 4.01 ERA and 19/9 K/BB ratio over 33 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this year. He'll likely start out in middle relief, but could pitch his way into a more prominent role given the uncertainty in the Cubs' bullpen.

According to Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago, the Cubs are calling up right-hander Manny Corpas from Triple-A Iowa.

There's nothing official yet and the corresponding roster move isn't yet known. Corpas signed with the Cubs in December after missing the entire 2011 season following Tommy John surgery. Now 29 years old, he has a 4.01 ERA and 19/9 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. The backend of the Cubs' bullpen is a complete mess, so we wouldn't rule out Corpas getting a shot at closer if he pitches well.

It was reported last week as a one-year major-league deal, but it's actually a non-guaranteed split contract. Corpas hasn't pitched in the majors since August of 2010 due to Tommy John surgery, but he's expected to be ready for spring training. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 3.93 ERA over 280 appearances in the majors, averaging 6.5 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9.

There was a time when Corpas was considered the Rockies' closer of the future, but injuries and ineffectiveness have plagued him and he underwent Tommy John surgery in September. The 27-year-old finished 2010 with a 4.62 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. He probably won't resurface until 2012.

With the addition of Cole Garner earlier in the day Tuesday, the Rockies now have 35 players on their 40-man roster. Corpas underwent Tommy John surgery in September and will likely be sidelined for the entire 2011 season.

Corpas underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in early September and probably won't be back in the majors until 2012. The transfer cleared a 40-man roster spot for new Rox reliever Octavio Dotel.

The surgery was expected, and now it's been confirmed with a date being set. Corpas will probably miss all of the 2011 season unless he makes a quicker-than-expected recovery.

Manny Corpas (elbow) expects to need Tommy John surgery.

He will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews before getting cut, but all signs are pointing towards the Tommy John route. If he does have the procedure, it would almost surely knock the reliever out for all of 2011.
