Dodgers signed LHP Fabio Castro to a minor league contract.
The 27-year-old lefty posted a 5-14 record, 5.60 ERA and 100/68 K/BB ratio over 125 1/3 innings of work between two minor league levels for the Athletics in 2012. He's merely organizational depth at this point. Fri, Nov 23, 2012 06:00:00 PM

Athletics signed LHP Fabio Castro to a minor league contract.

The diminutive left-hander hasn't appeared in the majors since 2007 and held a 3.63 ERA and 64/34 K/BB ratio over 79 1/3 innings at Triple-A Tacoma in the Mariners organization. He'll likely get an invite to spring training but will almost surely begin the year at Triple-A.

Mariners signed LHP Fabio Castro to a minor league deal.

Castro will get an invitation to spring training. The 5'7" reliever spent 2010 in the Red Sox's system, but hasn't logged a major league inning since 2007 with Philadelphia.

Red Sox designated LHP Fabio Castro for assignment.

He was cleared in order to make room for Eric Patterson on the 25-man roster. Castro, 25, hasn't made an appearance with the Red Sox this season, but was 3-5 with a 6.65 ERA in five starts and 12 relief appearances with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Red Sox recalled LHP Fabio Castro from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Castro spent one day with the Red Sox back in April, but he still hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2007. He's probably just up to provide the Red Sox with bullpen depth for a day or two.

Red Sox optioned LHP Fabio Castro to Triple-A Pawtucket.

That didn't last long. Castro was optioned back to the PawSox just hours after he was recalled, as the Red Sox elected to keep Alan Embree in the fold.

Red Sox recalled LHP Fabio Castro from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Castro hasn't exactly been sharp this season in the minor league ranks with an 8.10 ERA in 10 innings, but the Red Sox are hurting for fresh bullpen arms. He'll pitch in middle relief for about a week, maybe more.

Red Sox signed LHP Fabio Castro to a minor league contract.

Castro hasn't appeared in the major leagues since the 2007 season, when he posted a 6.00 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 12 innings with the Phillies. He had a 4.01 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 29 minor league starts this past year.

Fabio Castro struck out 10 in five scoreless innings before Double-A New Hampshire's game was suspended due to rain Monday.

Castro, the product of the Matt Stairs trade with the Phillies last season, has a 17/2 K/BB ratio in 16 2/3 scoreless innings for New Hampshire. The southpaw has done some bouncing around since making the Rangers as a Rule 5 pick in 2006, but he's still just 24 and he could yet have a long career. It's more likely to happen as a reliever than as a starter, but the Jays will probably add him to their rotation at some point if he keeps this up.

Blue Jays acquired LHP Fabio Castro from the Phillies to complete the Aug. 30 trade for Matt Stairs.

Castro had some success for the Phillies as a Rule-5 pick in 2006, but he pitched just 12 innings in the majors in 2007 and he never made an appearance for Philadelphia this year. The 23-year-old went 8-2 with a 4.40 ERA in 16 starts and 11 relief appearances for Double-A Reading. There's not much upside here, but he's another potentially useful left-handed reliever for an organization that already has a few.

Phillies optioned LHP Fabio Castro to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Castro, who was just recalled earlier in the week, goes back down to make room for Matt Stairs on the roster.

Phillies recalled LHP Fabio Castro from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Castro will be making his season debut after going 8-4 with a 4.71 ERA and 105/52 K/BB ratio in 120 1/2 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. He made 18 starts and 12 relief appearances in the minors, but will pitch in middle relief for the Phillies initially.

Fabio Castro struck out nine while allowing one hit over seven scoreless innings Saturday for Double-A Reading.

Castro's career has stalled since a rather promising debut as a Rule-5 pick in 2006, but he's not to be forgotten about at age 23. The Phillies will probably have need of him as a starter or a reliever at some point this summer.

Phillies optioned LHP Fabio Castro to Double-A Reading.

Castro showed promise as a Rule-5 pick in 2006, but he was pretty much a nonfactor last year. He had a 6.30 ERA in 10 innings this spring.
Wed, Mar 19, 2008 01:00:00 PM

Phillies recalled LHP Fabio Castro from Triple-A Ottawa.

Castro allowed one run over five innings in his start Aug. 23 before being sent back to Triple-A. He could rejoin the rotation if J.D. Durbin struggles again next time out, but he'll work out of the pen for now.
