Making his first start in place of the injured Marco Scutaro, Tony Abreu went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in Wednesday's loss to the Pirates.
Abreu also had a double in Tuesday's game. Scutaro could possibly be out for a while, and Abreu has surely earned more start with tonight's showing. It's possible he could develop some NL-only value. Jun 12 - 10:29 PM

Giants activated INF Tony Abreu from the 60-day disabled list.

Abreu has been sidelined since mid-February because of a severely strained quadriceps muscle. He will serve as a utility infielder for the Giants going forward and is doubtful to carry any sort of fantasy value.
Jun 8 - 5:48 PM

Giants transferred INF Tony Abreu from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Abreu is working his way back from a strained quad. He's eligible to return now, so this is just a procedural move.
May 29 - 8:37 PM

Tony Abreu (quad) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday with Triple-A Fresno.

Abreu began the season on the disabled list with a strained quad. The 28-year-old could serve as a utility infielder with the big club once he's back to full health.
May 3 - 6:19 PM

Tony Abreu (quad, knee) played six innings in an extended spring training game on Tuesday.

Abreu had a good shot to make the Opening Day roster but missed most of spring training with quad and knee ailments. It's not clear how much longer he'll be sidelined.
Apr 17 - 8:51 PM

Giants placed INF Tony Abreu on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a strained quad.

Abreu missed nearly all of spring training after being claimed on waivers last month. When healthy, Abreu can serve in a utility role with the Giants.
Mar 30 - 8:39 AM

Tony Abreu (quad) will make his spring debut Monday against the Rangers.

Abreu has been sidelined the last month with a strained quad, but he's finally ready to return. Assuming he can avoid setbacks, he'll be a strong candidate for a utility role with the Giants.
Mar 10 - 11:19 PM

Tony Abreu has been diagnosed with a quad strain in spring training.

The injury isn't considered serious and Abreu is expected to be cleared to return by next week. The 28-year-old was claimed off waivers earlier this month and should continue to serve as infield depth with the Giants.
Feb 16 - 2:46 PM

Giants claimed INF Tony Abreu off waivers from the Royals.

Abreu was designated for assignment by the Royals late last month. The 28-year-old owns a .252/.280/.355 batting line in the majors and will serve as infield depth.
Feb 4 - 4:59 PM

Royals designated INF Tony Abreu for assignment.

The move was made to clear a spot on the 40-man roster to accommodate George Kottaras. Abreu, 28, batted .257/.284/.357 over 22 games for the Royals last season. He should clear waivers.
Jan 25 - 2:21 PM

Tony Abreu smacked a game-winning RBI single in the 14th inning on Saturday night, propelling the Royals to a dramatic 7-6 victory over the Indians.

Abreu went just 1-for-6, but that one hit was the critical blow in the game. The 27-year-old middle infielder is hitting .266/.273/.375 with a homer and 14 RBI in 64 at-bats. He’s unlikely to make a fantasy impact in 2013.

Tony Abreu went 1-for-2 with a home run, an RBI, and a run in the Royals loss to the Angels.

Abreu started at second base and hit his first home run of the season on Sunday. The 27-year-old journeyman is hitting .326 in 14 games for the Royals this season.

Tony Abreu had his second straight three-RBI game against the Rangers on Monday.

Abreu had a two-run triple and an RBI single today, and he's now hitting .361 with 10 RBI in nine games for the Royals. There's still no reason for the Royals to play the journeyman regularly, but it'd be no surprise if he steals quite a few at-bats away from Johnny Giavotella the rest of the way.

Tony Abreu went 3-for-4 and drove home three runs, leading the Royals to a 6-4 victory over the Twins on Sunday.

Abreu delivered a two-run single off Esmerling Vasquez to cap off a three-run third inning. He then broke a 4-4 tie with an RBI single to center in the sixth that stood as the decisive run in the game. Playing on an extremely limited basis, Abreu is 11-for-32 (.344) with seven RBI on the season. He can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.
Sun, Sep 2, 2012 05:12:00 PM

Royals purchased the contract of infielder Tony Abreu from Triple-A Omaha.

Abreu played 81 games with the D-Backs in 2010, but has spent the last year-plus at the minor league level. Kansas City finally pulled the plug on Yuni Betancourt Sunday and promoted a better player. Abreu was hitting .322/.347/.492 through 453 plate appearances at Omaha at the time of the move. He primarily played shortstop on the farm this season, but can cover all four infield spots.
