Chris Marrero is set to begin rehabbing a hamstring injury with Class A Auburn.

Marrero torn his left hamstring over the winter and made his way to Triple-A Syracuse in June, but he was shut down in July after feeling some discomfort. He'll likely return to the Triple-A level once he's back to full health.

Chris Marrero (hamstring) will continue his rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg.

Marrero went 7-for-17 (.412) with two doubles, one homer and four RBI in six games between Low-A Harrisburg and High-A Potomac. The 23-year-old has been sidelined all season due to a torn left hamstring and more recently with a sore shoulder and a bruised thumb.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Thursday that Chris Marrero had a setback with his shoulder.

Marrero was already rehabbing a torn left hamstring, but the shoulder injury means he might not be ready to play again for another month or two. The 23-year-old batted .248/.274/.294 with five doubles and 10 RBI in 117 plate appearances for the Nationals down the stretch last season.

The 23-year-old prospect suffered a badly-torn left hamstring while playing in the Dominican Winter League this offseason and is not expected to be ready for live action until July. Marrero batted .248/.274/.294 with five doubles and 10 RBI in 117 plate appearances for the Nationals down the stretch last season.

Chris Marrero (hamstring) was able to field grounders Friday.

It's the first time he's been able to do so since tearing his left hamstring while playing in the Dominican Winter League over the offseason. While it's good to see him progressing, Marrero is still expected to be sidelined until after the All-Star break.

Nationals prospect Chris Marrero (hamstring) is expected to be out until after the All-Star break.

According to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, Chris Marrero will not be ready for the start of spring training after suffering a torn left hamstring while playing in the Dominican Winter League.

While Marrero doesn't expect to miss the entire season, he did require surgery because the hamstring was torn off the bone. The 23-year-old batted .248/.274/.294 with five doubles, 10 RBI and a .567 OPS over 117 plate appearances with the Nationals down the stretch. Adam LaRoche (shoulder) is expected to open 2012 as the starting first baseman, but Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported Monday that the Nationals have "serious interest" in free agent slugger Prince Fielder.

Nationals recalled 1B-OF Chris Marrero from Triple-A Syracuse.

The Nats' former top prospect, Marrero has had a nice year for Syracuse, batting .300/.375/.449 with 14 homers and 69 RBI. His defense at first base has also gotten better, and that's where Marrero will be when he gets playing time, pushing Mike Morse to left field. It's possible he could get enough at-bats to warrant consideration in NL-only leagues.

Nationals purchased the contract of 1B/OF Chris Marrero from Double-A Harrisburg.

The former first-round pick batted .294/.350/.450 with 18 homers over 524 at-bats for Harrisburg in 2010. Although he doesn't draw many walks and strikes out a lot, Marrero has plus raw power and is likely the team's long-term solution at first base. The 22-year-old will likely begin the season at Triple-A and could be promoted to the big leagues at some point in 2011.

Nationals promoted prospect Chris Marrero to Double-A Harrisburg.

The former 2006 first-round pick didn't have much more to prove at Single-A Harrisburg, batting .287/.360/.464 with 16 homers and 65 RBI. The Nationals were likely motivated to promote the 21-year-old first baseman so that he could participate in the Arizona Fall League.

Nationals prospect Chris Marrero said he's fully recovered from the broken fibula that ended his season last June and he's lost some weight since last season.

Marrero put on some weight after moving from the outfield to first base. "I was heavy," Marrero says today. "I didn't get fat, I just got really really strong. I came into 2008 at, like, 235 or something with 11 percent body fat. But I lost a little bit of my agility." He says he's 225 now, and that's where he'd like to stay. Marrero, the best position prospect in the Washington system, will open 2009 at either Single-A Potomac or Double-A Harrisburg.

Chris Marrero will need surgery to repair the broken fibula he suffered sliding into home on Wednesday and will miss the rest of the season.

He'll also need to repair ligaments in his ankle. The 19-year-old had gotten off to a slow start, but was hitting .352 in the 14 games before he was hurt. He'll finish the season hitting .250 with 11 homers and 38 RBI in 70 games. GM Jim Bowden doesn't think it will be a setback to Marrero's long-term development, but it will obviously delay his debut with the Nats.
