Radhames Liz has signed a contract with Korea's LG Twins.
Liz was once looked at as an up-and-coming talent within the Orioles organization but was never able to live up to the potential. He also spent time with the Padres organization in 2010. Now he will join fellow pitcher Brian Bannister as former major league pitchers heading oversees this offseason. Sun, Jan 9, 2011 09:43:00 AM

Padres released RHP Radhames Liz.

The Padres claimed Liz off waivers from the Orioles before the 2010 season but were unimpressed with the 4.83 ERA and 1.35 WHIP that he posted in 25 appearances at the Triple-A level last year. The 27-year-old righty will be on the hunt for a minor league contract and a spring training invite.

Padres claimed RHP Radhames Liz off waivers from the Orioles.

Liz, 26, has a 7.50 ERA in 28 major league appearances (21 starts), including an ugly 67.50 ERA in two appearances with the Orioles in 2009, but the Padres will take a chance on his electric arm. Liz was 4-4 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 25 appearances (14 starts) between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk in 2009. He's probably better suited for the bullpen.

Orioles sent RHP Radhames Liz to Triple-A Norfolk.

It wasn't a good week for Liz, who was recalled from Norfolk on Wednesday. He allowed 10 runs in 1 1/3 innings over two appearances.

Radhames Liz gave up six runs in one-third of an inning out of the pen against Boston on Monday.

Now we know for sure who is being sent down to make room for Brad Bergesen on the roster. Liz has given up an incredible 25 runs in nine career innings versus the Red Sox.

Orioles recalled RHP Radhames Liz from Triple-A Norfolk.

Liz possesses a mid-90's fastball, but is still trying to figure out how to handle major league hitters. He had a 6.72 ERA and 1.78 WHIP last season.

Orioles optioned RHP Radhames Liz and OF Luis Montanez to Triple-A Norfolk; reassigned LHP Alberto Castillo, C Guillermo Rodriguez, INF Scott Moore and INF Oscar Salazar to minor league camp.

Liz had allowed just one run in 4 1/3 innings since being sent to the pen, but since he has options left, he never had a real shot of making the team as a reliever. Montanez, who lost his spot when the Orioles added Ty Wigginton, goes down after hitting .340/.400/.420. Moore was also quite productive, batting .315/.351/.574.

Pitching coach Rick Kranitz announced Monday that Radhames Liz has been removed from consideration for a rotation spot and will now compete for a bullpen role.

Liz has been impressive so far this spring, but has a 7.37 ERA in 21 career starts. His mid-90s fastball and lack of quality secondary stuff should play much better out of the bullpen and he could emerge as a closer candidate in time. If he doesn't make the team out of spring training, Liz will continue to work as a reliever at Triple-A.

Radhames Liz yielded one hit in three scoreless innings Tuesday versus Boston.

With veterans to evaluate and other youngsters out of options, the Orioles appeared nearly certain to give Liz some additional Triple-A time at the beginning of the season. However, he has impressed with a 2.57 ERA through seven innings. He may yet be in the mix for a rotation spot.

Radhames Liz allowed five runs -- four earned -- over five innings in his final start on Wednesday night.

Liz remains a work in progress. He's got a live arm, but will need to conquer his control issues and gain some consistency if he's ever going to become a legitimate major-league starter. He ends his 2008 campaign with a 6-6 record and 6.72 ERA.

Radhames Liz was pinned with his sixth defeat in Orioles' 3-2 loss to the Yankees.

After going eight scoreless innings in his last start, Liz was once again ineffective. In 6 1/3 innings of work, Liz walked three and struck out one. He allowed Johnny Damon to score the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the sixth. Baltimore is now 7-23 in one-run games in 2008.

Radhames Liz threw eight shutout innings against the Twins on Sunday to improve to 6-5.

Liz walked just one despite throwing only 66 strikes in 109 pitches. He also struck out four and yielded just five hits, only one of which went for extra bases. The quality start was just the second in 15 tries for Liz, so he's not a fantasy option.

Radhames Liz was torched for nine runs in 3 1/3 innings by the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Liz has given up 19 runs in 8 2/3 innings during his three career starts against Boston. He just doesn't have the command to survive against patient offenses. The Orioles have nothing to lose by letting him finish the season as a starter, but he's likely to be a short reliever in the long haul.

Orioles recalled RHP Radhames Liz from Triple-A Norfolk.

Liz is 5-3 with a 6.95 ERA in 12 starts for Baltimore this year. He'll rejoin the rotation and face the Red Sox tonight. Obviously, that's not a reason to pick him up in AL-only leagues.

Orioles optioned RHP Radhames Liz to Triple-A Norfolk.

Liz was a little better this time around for the O's, but they couldn't count on him maintaining that 4.50 ERA for too much longer. He has a 24/23 K/BB rate this year and a 6.95 ERA overall.
