Pirates designated RHP Radhames Liz for assignment.

Liz had walked 10 batters and allowed 20 hits in 17 1/3 innings this season out of the Pirates' bullpen, but the 31-year-old right-hander may draw interest on waivers.
May 25 - 3:14 PM

Radhames Liz pitched three scoreless innings Tuesday in his start against the Orioles.

The Pirates are intending to use Liz as a reliever, so these two starts he's gotten this spring are probably more about helping him develop consistency than anything else. He's allowed two runs in 10 innings.
Mar 24 - 4:36 PM

The Pirates will use Radhames Liz as a reliever this season.

It was reported previously that they would give him a shot to start, but while Liz will be stretched out to three innings and/or 50 pitches during spring training, his future is in the bullpen. Liz held a 2.95 ERA over 12 starts in the minors with the Blue Jays last season after spending the previous three years in Korea.
Feb 23 - 6:43 PM

Pirates signed RHP Radhames Liz to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Word leaked last month that he had a two-year, $3 million deal in place, but questions raised during his physical exam led to a revised contract. Liz pitched in the KBO from 2011-13 before posting a 2.95 ERA over 12 starts in the minors with the Blue Jays this past season. Now 31, the former Orioles prospect hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009. The Pirates will give Liz a chance to compete for a rotation spot, but more than likely he'll wind up in the bullpen.

FOX Sports 1's CJ Nitkowski reports that Radhames Liz is considering a $1 million offer from the LG Twins of the Korean Baseball Organization.

Liz pitched in the KBO from 2011-13 before posting a 2.95 ERA over 12 starts in the minors with the Blue Jays this past season. Now 31, the former Orioles prospect hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009.

According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Radhames Liz will miss the first half of the 2014 season while rehabbing his knee.

The 30-year-old hurler resurrected his career in the Korean Baseball Organization the past three seasons, posting a 3.06 ERA and striking out 188 in 202 2/3 innings in 2013. He won't be an option for the Jays until the second half of the season.

Blue Jays signed RHP Radhames Liz to a minor league contract.

The 30-year-old right-hander hasn't appeared in the major leagues since the 2009 season, and owns a career 7.50 ERA and 1.89 WHIP over 110 1/3 innings. He's spent the past three seasons pitching in Korea, most recently posting a 3.06 ERA and leading the Korean Baseball Organization with 188 strikeouts in 202 2/3 innings in 2013. It's a nice low-risk signing for the Jays.

Radhames Liz has signed a contract with Korea's LG Twins.

Liz was once looked at as an up-and-coming talent within the Orioles organization but was never able to live up to the potential. He also spent time with the Padres organization in 2010. Now he will join fellow pitcher Brian Bannister as former major league pitchers heading oversees this offseason.

Padres released RHP Radhames Liz.

The Padres claimed Liz off waivers from the Orioles before the 2010 season but were unimpressed with the 4.83 ERA and 1.35 WHIP that he posted in 25 appearances at the Triple-A level last year. The 27-year-old righty will be on the hunt for a minor league contract and a spring training invite.

Padres claimed RHP Radhames Liz off waivers from the Orioles.

Liz, 26, has a 7.50 ERA in 28 major league appearances (21 starts), including an ugly 67.50 ERA in two appearances with the Orioles in 2009, but the Padres will take a chance on his electric arm. Liz was 4-4 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 25 appearances (14 starts) between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk in 2009. He's probably better suited for the bullpen.

It wasn't a good week for Liz, who was recalled from Norfolk on Wednesday. He allowed 10 runs in 1 1/3 innings over two appearances.

Radhames Liz gave up six runs in one-third of an inning out of the pen against Boston on Monday.

Now we know for sure who is being sent down to make room for Brad Bergesen on the roster. Liz has given up an incredible 25 runs in nine career innings versus the Red Sox.

Orioles recalled RHP Radhames Liz from Triple-A Norfolk.

Liz possesses a mid-90's fastball, but is still trying to figure out how to handle major league hitters. He had a 6.72 ERA and 1.78 WHIP last season.

Orioles optioned RHP Radhames Liz and OF Luis Montanez to Triple-A Norfolk; reassigned LHP Alberto Castillo, C Guillermo Rodriguez, INF Scott Moore and INF Oscar Salazar to minor league camp.

Liz had allowed just one run in 4 1/3 innings since being sent to the pen, but since he has options left, he never had a real shot of making the team as a reliever. Montanez, who lost his spot when the Orioles added Ty Wigginton, goes down after hitting .340/.400/.420. Moore was also quite productive, batting .315/.351/.574.
