Indians signed INF Gregorio Petit to a minor league contract.

Petit inked a minor league deal with the Padres last offseason, but missed the entire 2011 season with a knee injury. The 27-year-old infielder has appeared in 25 major league games with the A's and owns an underwhelming .265/.322/.365 batting line in the minors. This is strictly an organizational depth move.

Padres released INF Gregorio Petit.

The Padres inked Petit to a minor league deal over the winter. He was expected to report to camp on Friday, but the club released him after learning he was going to be lost for the season after blowing out his knee during winter ball.

Padres signed INF Gregorio Petit to a minor league contract.

Petit is a glove-first infielder that's put together a .656 OPS over 1,522 career plate appearances at Triple-A. He'll hope to earn a bench spot in San Diego.

Rangers acquired INF Gregorio Petit from the Athletics for RHP Edwar Ramirez.

Petit, who is capable of playing all around the infield, has a chance to fill the utility role Khalil Greene was signed to serve. Petit, 25, batted .226/.226/.258 in 31 at-bats with Oakland last season and .244/.292/.336 in 357 at-bats with Triple-A Sacramento.

Athletics outrighted INF Gregorio Petit to Triple-A Sacramento.

He was designated for assignment earlier this month. The 25-year-old infielder will receive an invite to Spring Training. Petit batted .226/.226/.258 in 31 at-bats with Oakland last season and .244/.292/.336 in 357 at-bats with Triple-A Sacramento.

Athletics designated infielder Gregorio Petit for assignment.

Petit hit just .226/.226/.258 in 31 at-bats with the A's last season and .244/.292/.336 in 357 plate appearances at Triple-A Sacramento. But he's only 25 and another organization will probably take a chance on him.

Athletics optioned infielder Gregorio Petit to Triple-A Sacramento.

The offensively limited Petit has hit .226/.226/.258 in 31 at-bats with the A's this season. He lost his roster spot due to the team's need for outfield depth following injuries to Ryan Sweeney and Aaron Cunningham.

Athletics recalled infielder Gregorio Petit from Triple-A Sacramento.

Petit had five hits in 20 at-bats during his first go-around with the A's this season. He's not ready for fantasy relevancy.

Athletics optioned infielder Gregorio Petit to Triple-A Sacramento.

Petit was recalled from the minors just a week ago and hit .250 in seven games with the A's. It's hard to see how Adam Kennedy, who was called up in his place, is much of an upgrade.

Making his season debut, Gregorio Petit went 3-for-4 with a go-ahead single in the top of the ninth to lead the A's to a 3-2 win over the Mariners on Saturday.

Petit hit .348 in 23 at-bats over two brief stints with the A's last season, but the team opted to leave him in the minors during September. It was a surprise that he was picked over Cliff Pennington to join the team now. He's a much better defender than Eric Patterson at second base, but his offensive ceiling is pretty limited. He probably won't have much value in AL-only leagues.

Athletics recalled IF Gregario Petit from Triple-A Sacramento.

Petit has a .239/.270/.338 line in the minors this season, but with three Oakland infielders going on the disabled list this week, they simply needed bodies. He should see a little action, but will be used more as a backup utility infielder.

Gregorio Petit went 4-for-4 with two doubles and walk in Wednesday's VWL action.

Petit is batting .349/.408/.558 through 43 at-bats. A big winter probably won't change the way the A's think about him, but maybe he'll pop up on the radars of other teams if he keeps it up.

Gregorio Petit went 2-for-4 and homered Wednesday for Caracas of the VWL.

Interesting in getting a look at Cliff Pennington, the A's declined to call up Petit in September, even though he went 8-for-23 in limited action with the team earlier in the year. He's hitting .273/.346/.455 through six games in Venezuela. If the A's decline to sign a veteran, then Petit and Pennington would likely compete for one bench job next spring. Petit has the greater fantasy upside of the two.

Athletics optioned infielder Gregorio Petit to Triple-A Sacramento

It turns out Sean Gallagher isn't going on the DL, at least not yet. Instead, Petit is getting sent down to make room for Gio Gonzalez. It's a surprising move, as the A's are now without a backup infielder. Meanwhile, Rajai Davis stays as a fifth outfielder despite having no role greater than defensive replacement and pinch-runner.
