Scott Van Slyke (back) had a single and a walk in seven innings Sunday in his rehab debut with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.
Van Slyke has been on the disabled list since early April with a lower back injury and is expected to spend this entire week playing in minor league games as he works toward regaining his timing at the plate. There is a big crowd right now in the Los Angeles outfield, so Van Slyke probably isn't going to offer much fantasy upside when he does return. May 23 - 9:02 AM

Scott Van Slyke (back) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday.

Lower back irritation has kept him out since early April. Van Slyke won't need much time in Rancho and should be back with the Dodgers next weekend. Van Slyke might have a hard time getting at-bats when he returns. The Dodgers already have six outfielders on their 25-man roster.

Scott Van Slyke (back) is set to begin a rehab assignment lasting around a week.

May 18 - 9:04 PM

Scott Van Slyke (back) said Thursday that he expects to take batting practice "within a week."

Van Slyke finally noticed an improvement with his ailing back in the last few days and was cleared to hit off a tee and take soft-toss earlier this week. Despite the progress, it could be about another month before Van Slyke is activated. "I legitimately felt terrible for a few weeks picking up things, moving around," Van Slyke said. "It was a struggle the last couple weeks. Then everything settled and I’m building back up."
May 13 - 11:22 AM

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that early June would be the "best-case scenario" for Scott Van Slyke's return to action from a back injury.

Van Slyke has been doing exercises to strengthen his core, but he has yet to resume baseball activity. He hit the disabled list in early April with lower back tightness. The 29-year-old outfielder is a strong option against southpaw pitching when he is healthy. Once he has been cleared for baseball activities, we should have a more concrete idea of his recovery timetable.
May 4 - 5:28 PM

Scott Van Slyke (back) is not expected to return before June.

Van Slyke has been out for three weeks with a lower back injury and still hasn't been cleared to resume baseball activities. The 29-year-old has been a weapon for the Dodgers against left-handed pitching the last few seasons, so his absence for what looks like will be at least a couple months is notable.
May 1 - 3:13 PM

Scott Van Slyke (back) has yet to be cleared for baseball activities.

He's been sidelined with lower back tightness since April 12. Van Slyke has been working to strengthen his core muscles but there's no indication he's close to resuming baseball activities. Scott Van Slyke (back) will not be cleared to participate in baseball activities until next week.

And next week would be the earliest he will be cleared for baseball activities. Van Slyke could miss upwards of a month in total. Manager Dave Roberts indicated on Sunday that at the very least, the outfielder will miss more than the 15-day minimum on the disabled list. He has been battling lower back irritation since just after Opening Day.
Apr 20 - 5:46 PM

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Scott Van Slyke (back) will miss more than the minimum 15 days on the disabled list.

His stint on the disabled list was backdated to April 10, but he will not be ready for activation when the 15 days are up in late April. The Dodgers are rolling with Howie Kendrick in left field on Sunday and could continue to do so, allowing he and Chase Utley to be in the lineup together.
Apr 17 - 5:17 PM

Dodgers placed OF Scott Van Slyke on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 10, with lower back irritation.

Van Slyke was reportedly feeling better after leaving Saturday's game due to back tightness, but he wasn't going to be available for a few more days. Yasmani Grandal has been activated from the disabled list and will take his place on the active roster.
Apr 12 - 1:00 PM

Joc Pederson pinch-ran for him in the third inning after he was plunked by Madison Bumgarner. The Dodgers can't catch a break right now with injuries. Andre Ethier is expected to miss the next 2-3 months with a fractured tibia while Carl Crawford was just placed on the disabled list with a back injury. Consider Van Slyke day-to-day.
Apr 9 - 6:15 PM

Mar 20 - 12:47 PM

Scott Van Slyke clubbed a two-run homer Friday as the Dodgers and Rangers played to a 3-3 tie.

The Rangers had the lead in the top of the ninth inning before Jefri Hernandez uncorked a wild pitch which allowed Corey Brown to score from third base. The teams elected to not play extra innings. Van Slyke dealt with multiple injuries last season while batting just .239 with six home runs and a .700 OPS over 253 plate appearances. He’s capable of doing some damage against left-handed pitching, but there are some playing time questions in the Dodgers’ outfield.
Mar 4 - 6:27 PM

Dodgers and OF Scott Van Slyke avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.225 million contract.
