Scott Van Slyke (wrist) took swings in the batting cage on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, manager Don Mattingly later indicated that the swings didn't go particularly well. Van Slyke was hopeful to take batting practice, but his wrist simply isn't up to speed yet. He was given a cortisone shot on Friday, but his status for the team's NLDS showdown with the Mets remains clouded.

He has been in and out of the lineup for most of September due to soreness in his hand and wrist, and has been unable to take batting practice for the past few days. As of now, he's still expected to be a part of the Dodgers postseason roster, but any further setbacks could change that.

Van Slyke got the scoring started with an RBI double in the second inning. He doubled in two runs in the seventh, and tacked on an RBI single in the eighth. It's the first four-hit game and second four-RBI game of his career. Van Slyke's bat has slowed down as the summer has waned, but he's still hitting .258/.340/.418 with five home runs and 27 RBI in 210 plate appearances.

Van Slyke was in the lineup against the left-hander Justin Nicolino and took him deep in the second inning. He was also hit by a pitch in the fourth inning and later came around to score. The 28-year-old is batting .265/.330/.461 with four home runs and 18 RBI over 41 games this season. He has some pop in his bat, but likely won't see enough at-bats to be relevant in mixed leagues if everyone stays healthy for Los Angeles.
