The fifth-inning blast gave the White Sox the lead. Greene, who got the start at second base with Jeff Keppinger (back) sidelined, is 5-for-12 (.417) since being called up from the minors earlier this month. Astros released INF Tyler Greene.

Greene will become a free agent assuming he passes through waivers on Thursday. The 29-year-old entered camp as the favorite for the Astros' starting shortstop job, but things changed after the club added Ronny Cedeno over the weekend. He'll try to latch on somewhere as a utility infielder.

Tyler Greene will not make the Astros' Opening Day roster.

Greene is out of options, so the Astros are looking to trade him. He had been the perceived favorite to start at shortstop, but the 'Stros signed Ronny Cedeno and will use him at the position with Marwin Gonzalez. Greene batted just .167/.314/.214 this spring. He'll be no better than a utility infielder wherever he lands.

Tyler Greene and Marwin Gonzalez are currently locked in a battle to become the Astros starter at shortstop to begin the season.

Neither one of them is running away with the opportunity, with Greene looking especially awful. He's hitting just .105 (2-for-19), though he has walked six times and stolen three bases. For fantasy purposes, Greene certainly has the most upside and could deliver double digit totals in home runs and steals, while being a big time liability in batting average.

Tyler Greene went 0-for-3 and committed his fourth error at shortstop Tuesday against the Nationals.

Greene became the Astros' likely starter at shortstop when Jed Lowrie was traded, but he's doing his best to throw the job away with four errors in eight games. He's also just 2-for-17 at the plate, though he does have six walks.

The lineup isn't filled with burners, but guys like Tyler Greene and Justin Maxwell could benefit from having the perpetual green light. Greene, 29, is competing for the starting shortstop job, a role Porter has said he would like to give to one player in lieu of a platoon situation. If Greene ends up earning the lion's share of playing time there, he could be a cheap source of stolen bases in deep fantasy leagues.

Greene is dealing with some loose particles in the knee and could need cleanup surgery over the offseason, but he'll play through it for now. The infielder is batting .236/.268/.453 with six homers in 33 games since joining the Astros.

Tyler Greene was a late scratch from the Astros' lineup Wednesday due to a right knee injury.

Greene is dealing with some loose particles in the knee, though it sounds like he could be available to play again soon. "My plan was to get Greene and [shortstop] Jed [Lowrie] in the lineup at the same time and try to increase our home run power in the middle of the diamond, and unfortunately it's not going to happen." interim manager Tony DeFrancesco said. "[Jose] Altuve is going back out [at second base] and we'll see how it reacts in the next day or two."

Tyler Greene swatted a solo home run in a losing effort against the Reds on Sunday.

Greene finished the day 2-for-3. Since being acquired from the Cardinals on August 10, he’s hitting .254 (18-for-71) with five homers, seven RBI and a steal. Though the average won’t be impressive, he offers enough in the power and speed departments to be an asset at middle infield in deeper mixed leagues over the season’s final month.

His solo shot off Jonathan Niese in the seventh inning was his only hit in four trips to the plate. He's seemingly been rejuvenated by the trade to the Astros and the ability to play on a daily basis, as he's hitting a cool .286 (12-for-42) with three homers, five RBI and a steal in 12 games with his new squad.

Tyler Greene went 1-for-3 and drove home the Astros lone run in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Greene's sacrifice fly off Wade Miley in the fifth inning was the extent of the Astros offense on the evening. Through his first seven games with his new club, Greene is hitting .348 (8-for-23) with a homer, two RBI and a stolen base. As long as he continues to hit near the top of the lineup, he's worthy of a look as a middle infielder in most fantasy formats.

Tyler Greene did well in his first start with the Astros on Saturday, going 2-for-5 with a double and a homer in a 6-5 extra-innings victory over the Brewers.

Greene doubled and scored the Astros' first run of the game in the first inning, then blasted a solo homer to center off Livan Hernandez in the fifth. While he’s hitting just .223 on the season with five homers, 20 RBI and 10 steals, he does possesses a dynamic skill set and could be worth a look as a middle infielder in deeper fantasy leagues. The change of scenery tactic has worked in the past.

Astros acquired INF Tyler Greene from the Cardinals for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

It's entertaining timing, given that Greene was booed by a normally friendly Busch Stadium crowd Wednesday after letting a would-be double play ball slip through his legs at second base. He's being reunited with Jeff Luhnow, who worked for the Cardinals when Greene was drafted and is now the general manager of the 'Stros. The 28-year-old has some power potential and should get regular time at shortstop.
