Twins re-signed RHP Shairon Martis.
He'll get a spring training invite. Martis was picked up by the Twins from the Pirates in June and is coming off a bad year that saw him put up a 5.17 ERA over 139 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A. He's merely organizational depth. Tue, Nov 20, 2012 06:55:00 PM

Twins acquired RHP Shairon Martis from the Pirates.

The two teams haven't decided what the Pirates will get in return. Martis hasn't appeared in the majors since 2009 as a member of the Nationals and had a 4.96 ERA and 37/23 K/BB ratio over 61 2/3 innings this season between the Pirates' Double- and Triple-A affiliates. He will serve as organizational depth.

Pirates signed RHP Shairon Martis to a minor league contract.

Martis hasn't appeared on a major league mound since the 2009 season, when he posted a 5.25 ERA in 85 2/3 innings for the Nationals. The 24-year-old righty will have trouble breaking that streak with the Pirates.

Nationals sent RHP Shairon Martis outright to Triple-A Syracuse.

Martis was designated for assignment by the Nationals last week. He successfully cleared waivers and will be a non-roster invitee during spring training. The 23-year-old right-hander spent the entire 2010 season with Triple-A Syracuse, posting a 4.09 ERA over 27 starts.

Nationals designated RHP Shairon Martis for assignment.

Martis had a nice run in the Nats' rotation early in 2009, but he eventually fell apart and spent all of 2010 in the minor leagues. He's only 23 years old, so he should draw some interest on the waiver wire.

Nationals optioned RHP Shairon Martis to Triple-A Syracuse; reassigned Chris Duncan and Pete Orr to minor league camp.

Martis allowed eight runs in 5 1/3 innings this spring (13.50 ERA). He opened 2009 in the starting rotation, but will start this season at Triple-A.

Shairon Martis was lit up for six runs in 1 1/3 innings by the Astros on Thursday.

Martis opened last year as the Nationals' fourth starter and won his first five decisions. However, he did nothing over the final four months and he entered this spring as a long shot to claim a roster spot. The soon-to-be 23-year-old will probably be a part of the Triple-A rotation.

Shairon Martis will not be promoted from Triple-A Syracuse because he has reached his innings limit.

Martis hit 160 combined innings and was shut down. He was 5-3 with a 5.25 ERA for the Nationals earlier this season. General manager Mike Rizzo said Martis will get an opportunity to compete for a spot in the rotation next year.

Nationals optioned RHP Shairon Martis to Triple-A Syracuse.

Martis started the season incredibly strong and is actually leading all Nationals starters in wins, but the club needed room for Scott Olsen. Martis will leave behind a 5-3 record and a 5.25 ERA.

The Nationals revealed after Sunday's game that they're demoting Shairon Martis to Triple-A.

They had previously announced that Craig Stammen would be bounced from the rotation to make room for the returning Scott Olsen, but now he'll avoid a trip to the pen and start Tuesday. Martis goes down despite being the Nationals' leading winner this season. He was 5-3 with a 5.25 ERA.

Shairon Martis was hit hard for six runs in five innings of a loss to the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Martis walked two, hit a batter, and gave up eight hits, including a solo homer. The right-hander had given up a total of four earned runs between his last three starts. Martis does have talent and the potential to be a mid-rotation starter, but inconsistency figures to be part of the package right now. He's not recommended in Baltimore against the Orioles next time out.

Shairon Martis gave up two runs -- one of them earned -- over six innings, but was the victim of a no-decision as the Yankees topped the Nationals 5-3.

Martis gave up just four hits, but also walked five and struck out just one. He actually left the game with a 3-2 lead, but Ron Villone coughed up the lead in the seventh. After starting 5-0, Martis is without a win since May 13.

Shairon Martis allowed just two runs over seven innings, but was handed a no-decision in an eventual 4-2 extra-inning loss to the Reds on Wednesday night.

Martis allowed just two hits -- the only damage came on a Jay Bruce two-run homer in the second inning. He fanned one and walked two in the no-decision. He's allowed just three runs over his last two starts. Martis is still 5-1, but hasn't won since May 13.

Shairon Martis limited the Mets to one earned run over five innings on Friday night.

Martis walked four batters and allowed three hits to an ailing Mets club. Don't go calling this a turn-around. He's been hammered in two consecutive starts and simply faced a weakened offensive team tonight. We'll see how he fares next week against the Reds.

Shairon Martis was hammered for seven earned runs in four innings Saturday against the Phillies.

It was, surprisingly, his first loss of the season. Martis is now 5-1 with a 5.62 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, and his run of lock may have just ended. Monitor how he fares next week against the Mets.
