Kevin Slowey has joined the MLBPA as a special assistant to executive director Tony Clark.
Slowey pitched with the Marlins last season, but he failed to make the Phillies' Opening Day roster out of spring training this year. He's still just 31 years old, but it looks like he's moving on from his playing career. Jun 2 - 2:26 PM

Phillies released RHP Kevin Slowey.

In his last two outings, Slowey had allowed nine runs over three innings. He was also part of a benches-clearing incident on Monday. Slowey should be able to latch on with another club, as he's a veteran arm who began Spring Training with a 2.08 ERA in two starts and three relief appearances.

Kevin Slowey was pounded for six runs -- five earned -- in two innings by the Pirates on Monday.

Slowey also played a role in the benches-clearing incident in the game, apparently because he quick-pitched Sean Rodriguez, who took exception. Slowey, who opened the spring with a 2.08 ERA in two starts and three relief appearances, has put his roster spot in jeopardy by allowing nine runs -- seven earned -- in three innings his last two times out.
Mar 30 - 5:02 PM

Kevin Slowey gave up three runs -- two earned -- in one inning of relief Wednesday against the Astros.

We're not sure why Slowey got booted from the rotation mix; he allowed one hit over five scoreless innings in his first two starts, but he's made four straight relief appearances since, throwing a total of 4 2/3 innings. He has a good shot of making the Phillies as a reliever, but he probably would have been their best internal option for the fifth spot in the rotation.
Mar 25 - 4:25 PM

Kevin Slowey went nine up and nine down for the win Sunday as the Phillies topped the Rays 5-4.

Slowey has struck out five and allowed just one hit in five scoreless innings this spring. Citizens Bank Park doesn't seem like it'd be a good environment for his flyball tendencies, but he has a realistic chance of winning a spot in the Phillies rotation, particularly in light of Cliff Lee's setback.
Mar 8 - 5:08 PM

Phillies signed RHP Kevin Slowey to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Slowey, who turns 31 next May, had a 5.30 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in two starts and 15 relief appearances (37 1/3 innings) this past season with the Marlins. He could hang around in a swingman role.

Marlins released RHP Kevin Slowey.

Slowey was designated for assignment by the Marlins last Monday and drew no interest from other teams on waivers. He had a 5.30 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in two starts and 15 relief appearances (37 1/3 innings) for Miami.

Marlins designated RHP Kevin Slowey for assignment.

Slowey registered an ugly 5.30 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in two starts and 15 relief appearances for the Marlins. The 30-year-old righty will likely pass through waivers.

Kevin Slowey allowed two runs over five innings in his first start of the season on Sunday.

Slowey was moved to the rotation after Brad Hand proved ineffective. Slowey had a strong spring and was decent Sunday, giving up just two runs on three hits. The right-hander also fanned three without walking a batter. His next start will come Saturday at the Mets.
Sun, Apr 20, 2014 04:11:00 PM's Joe Frisaro reports that "it appears" Kevin Slowey will start on Sunday against the Mariners.

The Marlins are sending Brad Hand back to the bullpen after a pair of ineffective starts. Slowey holds a 4.38 ERA and 7/4 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 relief inning this season. He put up a 4.21 ERA in 14 starts with the Marlins last season.

Marlins purchased the contract of RHP Kevin Slowey from Triple-A New Orleans.

The 29-year-old right-hander pitched well in Grapefruit League play, posting a 2.20 ERA, 0.61 WHIP and 11/1 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings. Slowey's versatility, in being able to start and relieve, was a key factor in making the roster. Unless he's in the rotation, though, he doesn't hold any fantasy value.
Sun, Mar 30, 2014 05:00:00 PM

Kevin Slowey pitched three perfect innings in his final spring outing against the Yankees on Friday.

Slowey put the cherry on top of a very nice spring, striking out two while posting zeroes across the rest of the board in his three innings. Slowey leaves exhibition play with a 2.20 ERA over 16 1/3 innings. He's in camp as a non-roster invitee, and if he can't break camp with the club he'll likely catch on with another starter-needy team.

Facing his old team, Kevin Slowey was charged with two runs in five innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Twins.

One of the runs was a result of Oswaldo Arcia's flyball getting lost in the sun. Slowey is having a fine spring, but with Tom Koehler in the lead for a rotation spot and Brad Hand out of options, it doesn't figure to result in Slowey making the Marlins. Perhaps another team will pick him up.
Sun, Mar 16, 2014 05:14:00 PM

Kevin Slowey pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief Wednesday against the Mets.

Slowey is up to 4 2/3 scoreless innings for the spring. He's battling Tom Koehler, Andrew Heaney and Brad Hand for the fifth spot in the Marlins rotation.
Wed, Mar 5, 2014 05:13:00 PM

Kevin Slowey fanned four over two scoreless innings as a Marlins split-squad routed the Mets 9-1 on Saturday.

Slowey is in the mix with Tom Koehler and Andrew Heaney for the fifth spot in Miami's rotation. He was solid last year, posting a 4.11 ERA in 92 innings before getting hurt, but since he's less reliable than Koehler and he doesn't have Heaney's ceiling, he seems like a long shot to make the team this spring.
