Kyle Blanks (calf) is swinging a bat but has yet to do any running.

Blanks has been out of commission for the last week due to a strained left calf. It's not clear when he'll be allowed to do any running, but obviously that will be the biggest test to determine when he might return.

Athletics placed 1B/OF/DH Kyle Blanks on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 23, with a strained left calf.

The injury has bothered Blanks for the past few days and now he'll get some extended rest. He's expected to be ready to do when first eligible on July 8. Josh Reddick has been activated from the disabled list in a corresponding roster move and will take his place on the active roster.
Jun 24 - 1:06 PM

Kyle Blanks was removed from Sunday's contest against the Red Sox due to a strained left calf.

Blanks had been dealing with stiffness in that same calf which caused him to sit out of Saturday's game. It's likely that he'll need a day or two to rest and recuperate before rejoining the A's lineup.
Jun 22 - 6:25 PM

Kyle Blanks is currently dealing with some stiffness in his left calf.

It's not a big surprise, Blanks appeared to be in discomfort while running the bases on Friday. Athletics manager Bob Melvin will likely try to stay away from using him Saturday at the very least.
Jun 21 - 2:35 PM

Athletics acquired OF Kyle Blanks from the Padres for OF Jake Goebbert and a player to be named later.

Blanks finally gets a change of scenery after posting a .712 OPS in parts of six seasons with the Padres. The 27-year-old first baseman and corner outfielder has a big body, enticing minor league power numbers, and was once rated a Top 50 prospect by Baseball America. The A's will hope some upside remains.
May 15 - 12:59 PM

According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, trade talks seem to be "heating up" between the A's and Padres over outfielder Kyle Blanks.

Blanks was optioned off the Padres' active 25-man roster on Tuesday to open up a spot for Carlos Quentin. He's blocked at multiple positions in San Diego (specifically first base and both corner outfield spots) and would probably benefit greatly from a change of scenery. The well-built 27-year-old is a .228/.310/.401 hitter with 28 home runs in 239 career games at the major league level.
May 15 - 12:50 PM

Padres optioned 1B Kyle Blanks to Triple-A El Paso.

The Padres have been trying to shop Blanks and the A's are said to have some interest, but no trade has been worked out at this point. He was removed from the 25-man roster on Tuesday to open up a spot for Carlos Quentin.
May 13 - 4:18 PM

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that Kyle Blanks "may be on the move soon."

Cotillo lists that A's as "a possibility at this point." Blanks has had trouble staying healthy and has been back-and-forth between the Padres and Triple-A the last few seasons, hitting .228/.310/.401 with the big club. However, he's still just 27 and a former top prospect, so the A's (or some other team) may think there's still some upside left.
May 12 - 6:15 PM

Padres recalled 1B/OF Kyle Blanks from Triple-A El Paso.

As expected. Blanks was mashing the ball in the minors, putting up nine home runs and a 1.014 OPS through 27 games, so the hope is that he can provide a jolt to a sagging offense. The 27-year-old could see at-bats between the outfield and first base. Watch his playing time carefully, as he could be a useful addition in deeper fantasy leagues.
May 5 - 4:33 PM

Padres general manager Josh Byrnes indicated that Kyle Blanks could be called up to the majors as soon as Monday.

Blanks is batting .265 with nine home runs and a 1.014 OPS through 27 games in Triple-A, big numbers for a team starved for any kind of offense. Yonder Alonso is off to a miserable start this season and could find himself losing playing time at first base.
May 5 - 4:04 PM

Padres optioned OF Kyle Blanks to Triple-A Tucson.

Blanks hit the ball well this spring, but the Padres simply don't have room for him on their 25-man Opening Day roster. He'll be up in San Diego eventually.
Mar 29 - 3:16 PM

Padres avoided arbitration with OF/1B Kyle Blanks by agreeing to a one-year, $987,500 contract.

It was Blanks' second year of arbitration eligibility. The injury-prone 27-year-old hit .243/.305/.379 with eight homers for the Padres in 2014 and made yet another lengthy trip to the DL. He'll back up at first base and the corner outfield spots in 2014.
Jan 17 - 11:47 AM

Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune believes that the Padres could look to deal a reserve outfielder at the winter meetings, either Kyle Blanks or Jesus Guzman, for bullpen help.

Center notes that the Padres have nine players on the 40-man roster with major league experience in the outfield, but the team is woefully short on bullpen pieces. The 27-year-old slugger could be an attractive trade chip due to his massive power. Blanks slashed .243/.305/.379 with eight homers and 35 RBI in 88 contests during an injury-plagued 2013 season.

Kyle Blanks is not in the Padres' lineup Thursday due to nagging Achilles and shoulder discomfort.

Blanks has been hampered by bother injuries over the last couple months. "Kyle is a little banged up but he's able to play," manager Bud Black said. "I just thought today would be a good day for him to watch this one from the start and see where it ends up. There is a good chance he might be in there at some point in this game."
