Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Giants have agreed to a minor league contract with Kyle Blanks, pending a physical.
John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle was the first to break the news that the two parties were nearing an agreement. Assuming he passes the physical, he'll get an invite to spring training, where he should have a decent chance to make the Opening Day roster. Blanks is coming off of a pair of Achilles surgeries, but if he's healthy, it's a nice little roll of the dice by the Giants. The 29-year-old first baseman hit .313/.352/.522 with three homers and six RBI over 67 at-bats with the Rangers in 2015. Nov 17 - 5:45 PM

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants are closing in on a contract with free agent Kyle Blanks.

The deal would be on a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, though Shea notes that as long as he's healthy Blanks would stand a good chance of breaking camp with the club. With his ability to play first base or either corner outfield spot in a pinch, his powerful right-handed bat could fit nicely in San Francisco.

Kyle Blanks has elected free agency.

Blanks was sent to Triple-A Round Rock outright on Wednesday, but he was eligible to opt for free agency if he so chose. He underwent surgery on both Achilles tendons in early September. Prior to being waylaid by injury, the 29-year-old first baseman hit a healthy .313/.352/.522 with three homers and six RBI across 67 at-bats with the Rangers. Assuming he's able to rehab from the major surgeries, he should find some level of interest on the open market.

Rangers sent 1B Kyle Blanks outright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Blanks can elect free agency. He had a tough end of the season, as the 29-year-old first baseman underwent surgery on both Achilles tendons. When healthy, he was productive in his 67 at-bats with the Rangers during the 2015 season, hitting .313/.352/.522 with three homers and six RBI.
Oct 21 - 5:58 PM

Kyle Blanks will undergo season-ending surgery on both Achilles on Friday in Dallas.

Blanks has been bothered by Achilles issues for the past couple of seasons now. He attempted to make it back late last week by going out on a minor league rehab assignment, but apparently the pain is too much. The 28-year-old has appeared in just 44 games at the major league level dating back to the start of 2014.
Sep 3 - 4:19 PM

Kyle Blanks (Achilles) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Round Rock.

Blanks has been sidelined since mid-June with a right Achilles injury. If all goes according to plan, he should be back in September as a bench player.
Aug 27 - 4:19 PM

Rangers transferred 1B/OF Kyle Blanks to the 60-day disabled list.

This was done merely as a procedural move to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Mike Napoli who was acquired from the Red Sox on Friday. Blanks is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment soon and could be ready to rejoin the Rangers at some point in August.
Aug 7 - 8:26 PM

Kyle Blanks (Achilles) is expected to begin a rehab assignment within the next 10 days.

Blanks has been on the shelf since mid-June with a nagging right Achilles injury. He's a poor bet to remain healthy even if he's activated soon.
Aug 2 - 2:04 PM

Kyle Blanks (Achilles) has yet to be cleared to resume running.

He's been able to hit, but it's unclear when Blanks will be allowed to run again. The 28-year-old has had numerous Achilles issues over the past few years, so the Rangers will be careful here.
Jul 10 - 10:23 AM

Rangers placed 1B/OF Kyle Blanks on the 15-day disabled list with left and right Achilles tendinitis.

Blanks has been no stranger to the DL throughout his career, and his season is proving no different. It's not clear at the moment how long he may be sidelined, but Blanks can safely be dropped in all fantasy leagues where he was owned.
Jun 18 - 9:23 PM

Kyle Blanks was scratched Wednesday with left and right Achilles tendinitis.

Blanks has had a slew of injuries over his career, and the Achilles bothered him earlier in the year. Prince Fielder replaced him at first base and in the cleanup spot in the batting order Wednesday.
Jun 17 - 8:38 PM

Kyle Blanks went 2-for-4 with a double in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers.

The two hits were Blanks' first since coming off the disabled list last week. The first baseman, who played outfield Tuesday, is hitting .313/.352/.522 overall but has had trouble staying on the field in his career. When healthy, Blanks has been in the Rangers' lineup more often than not and is worthy of being started in AL-only leagues.
Jun 16 - 10:47 PM

Rangers activated 1B/OF Kyle Blanks from the 15-day disabled list.

Blanks missed three weeks with a pilonidal cyst. He's going to be limited to DH and first base duties initially, and probably won't carry much value for mixed leaguers.
Jun 11 - 1:43 PM

Kyle Blanks (cyst) is expected to rejoin the Rangers in the coming days, but will not play the outfield upon his return.

The team is pushing him back a little sooner than they would like as they are desperate for his right-handed power bat in the lineup, but he won't be ready to handle the outfield defensively, at least initially. He won't be an everyday player once he returns either, so he's a difficult player to use in most mixed leagues.
Jun 5 - 7:58 PM

Kyle Blanks (cyst) will begin playing in extended spring training games on Thursday.

Blanks has been out the last couple weeks after having pilonidal cyst removed. He should be activated by the Rangers before long but doesn't really have a clear path to playing time anymore.
