Rangers reassigned 1B/DH Kyle Blanks to minor league camp.
We can take another name out of the mix for the left field. The Rangers eased Blanks into things this spring after his Achilles issues last season and he hit just .235 (4-for-17) with zero extra-base hits and a 6/0 K/BB ratio across nine Cactus League games. Mar 23 - 6:05 PM

Kyle Blanks (Achilles) is scheduled to play in games by mid-to-late next week.

The Rangers have been taking things slowly with Blanks after his Achilles issues last season. He'll be limited to working at first base and designated hitter initially but eventually will see work in the outfield as long as his health cooperates. Blanks could see plenty of playing time this season in left field and at designated hitter if he can stay on the field.

Kyle Blanks (Achilles) indicated Saturday that he's been encouraged by his recovery from an Achilles injury.

Blanks has been running for nearly three weeks now and hasn't experienced any setbacks. While he'll be limited to working at first base and designated hitter at the start of the spring, if he continues to progress he could compete for a starting spot in left field before Opening Day.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Kyle Blanks (calf) will be limited to first base and designated hitter at the start of spring training.

The Rangers have a wide open competition in left field this spring, but Blanks is coming off an Achilles injury, so they plan to play things safe. "He's one of those guys we'll probably take it slow early on," said Daniels. "There's some sentiment that as good as athlete he is for a big man to help keep him healthy we're probably going to keep him out of the outfield, at least early on. He's checked every box. He's been rehabbing out in Arizona." Blanks is one of 21 non-roster players with the Rangers this spring.

Rangers signed 1B Kyle Blanks to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

It's a split contract, carrying different salaries for his time spent in the minors and majors. Blanks was designated for assignment and then non-tendered by the A's earlier this offseason after appearing in only 26 games in 2014 due to a lingering Achilles issue. But the 6-foot-6, 265-pound first baseman was certainly worth a shot on a low-risk deal for Texas. He's had a couple nice stretches of production when healthy.

A source told MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo that "a ton of teams" were showing interest in 1B/OF Kyle Blanks.

Blanks was non-tendered by the A's on Tuesday and has immediately drawn interest around the league. Cotillo didn't name specific teams, but it's clear that Blanks won't have a problem finding a new home. He slashed .309/.409/.436 in 55 ABs in 2014 before his season was cut short by tendinitis in his left Achilles. If he is able to stay healthy, his bat has a nice bit of power.

Athletics non-tendered 1B/OF Kyle Blanks.

Blanks had been designated for assignment, and he's now free to sign with anyone. While he's had real trouble staying healthy, most recently dealing with nagging Achilles issues, someone will take a shot on Blanks' pop.

Athletics designated 1B/OF Kyle Blanks for assignment.

Blanks was the victim of a roster crunch in the wake of Friday's deal with the Blue Jays. The 28-year-old slugger hit .309/.409/.436 in 55 at-bats between the A's and Padres in 2014 before his season was derailed by tendinitis in his left Achilles. He shouldn't have a problem finding another organization willing to give him an opportunity.

Athletics activated 1B/OF Kyle Blanks from the 60-day disabled list.

The injury-prone 28-year-old was limited to 26 games this season due to tendinitis in his left Achilles, an issue that also bothered him in 2013. He hit .309/.409/.436 when healthy, but Blanks still might be non-tendered this offseason in his final year of arbitration eligibility.

Athletics transferred OF Kyle Blanks to the 60-day disabled list.

This is merely a procedural move to create a roster spot for Geovany Soto who was picked up in a trade from the Rangers on Sunday. Blanks remains unlikely to return before the end of the 2014 campaign.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Saturday that Kyle Blanks will be shut down for "a while" after an MRI revealed tendinitis in his left Achilles.

Blanks has been out since late June with a left calf issue, but it appears his Achilles is the bigger concern now. The 27-year-old missed a big chunk of last season with the same injury. He seems unlikely to make it back this year.

Kyle Blanks (calf) will have an MRI on both his lower legs after suffering a setback during his rehab assignment.

Blanks has complained of his feet, legs and heels hurting, so he'll have an MRI to see if a source of the pain can be diagnosed. Blanks has been on the disabled list since June 23, and it's now in question whether we'll see him again this season.

Kyle Blanks (calf) still hasn't played a full nine innings in the field on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento.

Blanks has been on the disabled list since June 23 and he recently embarked on the rehab assignment, but it appears he's still got work to do to get back to Oakland. He's playing every other day, another hurdle he'll need to clear before being activated, so a return in the next week or two appears to be the most likely scenario.

Kyle Blanks (calf) will begin a rehab assignment on Sunday.

It's not clear which affiliate he'll be assigned to. Blanks has been sidelined since late June with a strained left calf but should return sometime next week if all goes well.

Kyle Blanks (calf) ran the bases on Tuesday.

It should be the last step before he's cleared for a rehab assignment, which will likely come later this week. Blanks has been sidelined since late June with a strained left calf.
