Kyle Kendrick struggled in Friday's Cactus League outing against the Padres, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings.
The veteran right-hander walked a pair and struck out two on the afternoon. It was the worst outing of the spring to date for the Rockies' Opening Day starter. The 30-year-old owns a 3.52 ERA and 8/4 K/BB ratio across 15 1/3 innings in Cactus League play. He holds little fantasy value outside of NL-only formats. Mar 28 - 1:36 AM

Kyle Kendrick blanked the Diamondbacks over four innings in Sunday's Cactus League start.

Kendrick limited the opposition to two hits and a walk while striking out one. Tabbed as the Opening Day starter for the Rockies, Kendrick has performed well this spring, allowing three runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out six over 11 innings. The success may not last as pitching in Coors Field isn't likely to benefit Kendrick, who owns a career 4.42 ERA.
Mar 22 - 7:32 PM

Kyle Kendrick has been named the Rockies' Opening Day starter by manager Walt Weiss.

Kendrick didn't even find a home until early February, an indication of the state of affairs of the Rockies pitching staff. Kendrick owned a 4.61 ERA as a member of the Phillies last season, and a move to Colorado isn't likely to cure what ails the 30-year-old.
Mar 18 - 8:46 PM

Kyle Kendrick served up two runs in three innings in Sunday's start against the Royals.

Both runs scored in the second inning. Overall, the right-hander gave up five hits while walking none and striking out one. Kendrick has had a decent start to the spring, but he's never had much fantasy value and should have even less pitching half his games at Coors Field.
Mar 15 - 7:02 PM

Kyle Kendrick held the Dodgers scoreless over two innings Tuesday in his second Cactus League start.

Kendrick struck out three of the eight batters he faced. The right-hander also looked pretty sharp last Friday in his Cactus League debut and should be locked into the Rockies' starting rotation after signing a one-year, $5.5 million free agent contract with the club in early February. Still, he's a poor fantasy bet for the 2015 season.
Mar 10 - 7:15 PM

Kyle Kendrick fared well in his Rockies debut on Friday, surrendering one run on three hits over two innings in Cactus League action.

Kendrick also walked one and struck out one on the day. The 30-year-old is penciled into a spot in the Rockies rotation, though his historical propensity to serve up the long ball is concerning considering the move to Coors Field. He’s best utilized as an NL-only option.
Mar 6 - 5:59 PM

Rockies signed RHP Kyle Kendrick to a one-year, $5.5 million contract.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reported the contract terms. Kendrick could make an additional $500,000 if he reaches 190 innings in 2015. The veteran right-hander posted a 4.61 ERA with the Phillies last season and has averaged just 4.9 K/9 for his career, so it's hard to be optimistic about him in Colorado. He'll be expected to eat innings in the back end of the rotation.
Feb 4 - 12:36 PM

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, free agent right-hander Kyle Kendrick is headed to the Rockies.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports says it's a one-year, $5.5 million contract with a $500,000 bonus if Kendrick reaches 190 innings. Kendrick had a pedestrian 4.61 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 121/57 K/BB ratio in 199 frames last season with the Phillies and his career K/9 is a paltry 4.9. He's a poor fit for power-friendly Colorado, but so is just about every pitcher. The 30-year-old starter is doubtful to carry fantasy value in 2015.
Feb 3 - 5:11 PM

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Rockies still want to add starting pitching and have maintained interest in free agent right-hander Kyle Kendrick.

The Mets' Dillon Gee is another option via trade. Kendrick owns a 4.42 ERA with 4.9 K/9 in his career and would be nothing more than back-end rotation depth. He has also been connected to the Astros in recent weeks.
Feb 3 - 3:53 PM

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that the Astros discussed pursuing free-agent right-hander Kyle Kendrick before their failed pursuit of Ryan Vogelsong.

It's unclear if Kendrick would again be an option for them now that Vogelsong has decided to re-sign with the Giants. The veteran right-hander owns a 4.42 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 1138 2/3 innings in his career and his already minimal fantasy value would take a hit if moving to the American League.
Jan 24 - 3:07 PM

Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM reports that the Rangers "continue pursuit" of Kyle Kendrick and Ryan Vogelsong.

The Rangers have been connected to a variety of arms this offseason, including marquee starters Cole Hamels and James Shields. However, it appears at this point they may be moving onto some low-hanging fruit. Kendrick owns a career 4.42 ERA and 4.9 K/9 ratio, though he does earn some points for durability. Vogelsong holds a 4.62 ERA over the last two campaigns and will turn 38 in the middle of next season.
Jan 18 - 10:46 AM

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Rockies are "looking at" free agent Kyle Kendrick.

Kendrick has a decent career groundball rate, which is a nice fit for the light air of Coors Field, but the 30-year-old right-hander also owns a putrid 4.42 career ERA and 4.9 career K/9 in eight major league seasons. Colorado continues to aim low.

Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN reports that the Twins have interest in free agent right-hander Kyle Kendrick.

The team even had a meeting about him at the Winter Meetings in San Diego, so it appears that he is a serious consideration. Kendrick owns a 4.42 ERA over eight seasons in the majors while averaging 4.9 K/9. He's the perfect Twin, really.

Kyle Kendrick won in his final start of the season, holding the Marlins to one run over seven innings on Wednesday.

Kendrick scattered six hits and a walk while striking out a pair of Marlins. The right-hander is eligible for free agency when the season ends, so this very well may have been his final start as a Phillie after eight seasons. He ends 2014 with a disappointing 10-13 record, a 4.61 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and a 121/57 K/BB ratio. Even if Kendrick signs with a team with a pitcher-friendly park, he is difficult to trust in mixed leagues.
Wed, Sep 24, 2014 10:05:00 PM

Kyle Kendrick allowed three runs on six hits over five innings in a 7-3 loss to the Padres on Thursday.

Perhaps more troubling, Kendrick walked five batters, leading to the truncated outing. You wouldn't have expected him to struggle like this in Petco. The seventh rounder from the 2003 draft had gone 4-1 in his last eight starts and served up only three earned runs over 14 innings in his last two. The 30-year-old free-agent-to-be, now 9-13 with a 4.73 ERA in his walk year, gets the Marlins next.
