Adam Rosales hit a go-ahead homer off James Shields in the eighth in Oakland's 2-1 defeat of Kansas City on Friday.
The A's had been going with Eric Sogard against righties and Rosales against lefties, but Rosales drew the assignment against Shields tonight and came through with the big blast. As poorly as Sogard has hit, the A's will probably go with Rosales regularly for now. May 18 - 12:59 AM

Adam Rosales went 2-for-5 with a leadoff homer in Friday's win over the Yankees.

In fact, Rosales took CC Sabathia deep on the very first pitch of the ballgame. Not bad for someone who was starting out of the leadoff spot for the first time in his career. The 29-year-old is now hitting .333 (9-for-27) since coming off the disabled list and could be playing himself into a more prominent role.

Rosales hasn't reported any setbacks since being placed on the disabled list and will resume hitting activities early next week. The Athletics are hoping to have him available sometime later this month.

Rosales should be ready to rock around mid-April. He had been in the running for the Athletics' starting second base job, but that will go to Scott Sizemore now.

The Athletics got on Scott Baker (elbow) early, and Rosales, Chris Young and Josh Donaldson all finished with home runs. The performance likely keeps Rosales in contention for a bench spot after he batted just .222/.297/.333 in 42 games last season. Eric Sogard is also having a surprisingly good spring and could force his way back on the Opening Day roster.
