Alexi Casilla could give up switch-hitting and hit exclusively from the right side.
It's interesting, as Casilla actually has a higher OPS from the left side of the plate during his career. Still, the Orioles think that he drives the ball better from the right side. We don't expect it to make much of a difference either way. May 10 - 5:46 PM

Orioles and INF Alexi Casilla avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.7 million contract with a $3 million club option for 2014.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reported the contract terms. The option year has a $200,000 buyout. With the uncertainty surrounding Brian Roberts, the 28-year-old has a strong chance of gaining significant playing time with the O's in 2013.

Orioles claimed INF Alexi Casilla off waivers from the Twins.

The Twins were going to non-tender Casilla anyway, as he's due a raise in arbitration after making $1.3825 million this season. The 28-year-old will provide insurance at second base with Brian Roberts' uncertain status. Casilla hit just .241/.282/.321 with one homer and 21 steals this season.

The Twins are expected to non-tender Alexi Casilla.

Casilla made $1,382,500 this season and is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter. However, the Twins aren't prepared to give him a raise after he batted just .241/.282/.321 with one homer, 30 RBI, 21 stolen bases and a .603 OPS this year.

Alexi Casilla went 2-for-3 and homered to give the Twins both of their runs in Wednesday's loss to the Indians.

The homer was Casilla's first in 77 games this season. He's been a huge liability offensively all year long, but so have the rest of the Twins' middle infield options. Odds are that he'll play pretty regularly the rest of the way.

Alexi Casilla had a great day at the dish in Saturday's 12-5 win over the Indians, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Casilla smashed a two-run triple off Justin Masterson in the fifth inning, and added a two-run double off him in the sixth frame. The 27-year-old shortstop has been a bit of a disappointment this season, hitting just .229 with no homers and 20 RBI

Alexi Casilla struck out all three times he was up in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox.

Fortunately for Casilla, Jamey Carroll and Brian Dozier have been so awful as to cover up his own incredibly poor hitting. He's batting just .222, he hasn't drawn a walk since June 6 and he hasn't had an extra-base hit since June 30. It the Twins had alternatives, it'd be time to release him.

Alexi Casilla went 3-for-3 with a triple, RBI and walk in Sunday's loss to the Tigers.

The four times on base were a season high for Minnesota's .248/.292/.322 hitting second baseman. With no power and only average speed, Casilla remains a highly-ordinary option for AL-only league players.

Alexi Casilla returned to action on Thursday, going 1-for-3 with a run scored in a 6-2 setback to the Blue Jays.

Casilla had missed three games with a sore shoulder. He is 2-for-20 (.100) with seven strikeouts in his past six games.

Alexi Casilla is out of Monday's lineup with a sore shoulder.

Casilla is available off the bench, so it's safe to call him day-to-day right now. Jamey Carroll will start in his place at second base Monday night.

Alexi Casilla led the way on offense for the Twins on Monday, going 3-for-4 with a run, an RBI, and two steals.

The 27-year-old is batting .500 in his last four games, raising his average to .300. He is also on pace to beat his steals record with five swipes in the season's first month.

Alexi Casilla returned with a bang on Wednesday, finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in a 7-6 loss to Boston.

He also stole his third base of the season. Casilla is batting right around his career averages with a .271/.300/.313 triple slash.

Alexi Casilla was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Red Sox due to illness.

He should be back to 100 percent in the next day or two. Trevor Plouffe will fill in at second base Monday while Chris Parmelee makes the start in left. Josh Willingham will serve as the DH.

Alexi Casilla started Wednesday's exhibition and went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a walk for the Twins.

Casilla has been troubled by a sore knee of late, but he'll be good to go in the opener against the Orioles.

Alexi Casilla (knee) played in a minor league game Tuesday.

An MRI ruled out any damage in Casilla's right knee and he was given a cortisone shot over the weekend. The plan calls for him to play in another minor league game on Wednesday, so barring a last-minute setback, he should be ready to go for the start of the season.
