Eric O'Flaherty (elbow) tried throwing on Monday and didn't feel completely comfortable.
He is not on the A's active roster for Tuesday night's Wild Card Game in Kansas City and the left-hander might not be an option for the ALDS either. O'Flaherty was bothered by discomfort in his surgically-repaired elbow over the final few weeks of the regular season. Tue, Sep 30, 2014 05:44:00 PM

Eric O'Flaherty is not on the A's roster for Tuesday's Wild Card game against the Royals.

Scott Kazmir, Sonny Gray, Jeff Samardzija were also left off, but Jason Hammel and Drew Pomeranz are on the roster just in case they are needed in long relief. Of course, with Jon Lester on the hill, the A's are hoping that won't be necessary. Speedster Billy Burns is also on the roster, giving Oakland a pinch-running option in the late innings. The A's will reset their roster if they make it through to the ALDS.

Eric O'Flaherty (elbow) threw live batting practice Monday.

O'Flaherty hasn't pitched since September 20 due to soreness in his surgically-repaired elbow. He'll need to prove his health and effectiveness to pitch this postseason.

Eric O'Flaherty took a blown save Monday after giving up a ninth-inning homer in his first appearance in a week.

O'Flaherty, who was limited by back tightness the past several days, was one strike away from notching a save tonight before giving up a homer to Tyler Flowers. It was the second homer he's allowed in 17 1/3 innings this season, but both of those bombs have come in his only two save chances since replacing the injured Sean Doolittle in the ninth. It's unclear if he'll get the next save chance now, but with the way Ryan Cook has struggled of late, O'Flaherty still might be the best bet.

Eric O'Flaherty will be available out of the Athletics' bullpen Monday.

O'Flaherty couldn't pitch Sunday due to lower back tightness, but he's evidently made great progress over the last 24 hours. Sean Doolittle (intercostal) is expected back later this week, but O'Flaherty could see a couple more save chances until then.

Eric O'Flaherty was unavailable for the A's weekend series against the Astros due to lower back tightness.

And he is doubtful to be available for Monday's series-opener versus the White Sox. Ryan Cook was used as the A's fill-in closer on Sunday and blew the opportunity, walking three of the four batters he faced as the Astros poured on two runs. Sean Doolittle (intercostal) should be ready to return to Oakland's ninth-inning role at some point this week.

Despite giving up a homer to Chris Carter, Eric O'Flaherty finally recorded his first career save Wednesday against the Astros.

Fortunately, O'Flaherty was able to erase Robbie Grossman on a double-play ball before the homer, since a two-run shot would have tied the game at 5. After that, O'Flaherty got Dexter Fowler to line out to end it. The outing certainly wasn't quite what the A's were hoping for when they made the surprising decision to have O'Flaherty replace the injured Sean Doolittle. However, since he got the job done, he'll likely continue to close.

After warming up to come in for the save, Eric O'Flaherty ended up finishing an 8-2 game against the Astros on Monday.

It was 3-2 until the A's racked up five runs in the top of the ninth, extending O'Flaherty's saveless streak for at least one day. He's expected to be Oakland's fill-in closer for now, even though he's never saved a game in 388 appearances. In tonight's game, he gave up a double and a walk with one out before inducing a double-play ball to end the contest.

Eric O'Flaherty is expected to serve as the A's closer while Sean Doolittle (intercostal) is sidelined.

That will allow Ryan Cook and Luke Gregerson to remain in their current setup roles -- where they have both excelled. Doolittle was placed on the disabled list Sunday with an intercostal strain and could be out for close to three weeks. O'Flaherty, who has a 1.35 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in 13 1/3 innings since returning in July from Tommy John surgery, obviously needs to be scooped up in all standard fantasy leagues.

Athletics activated LHP Eric O'Flaherty from the 60-day disabled list.

O'Flaherty posted a 3.86 ERA with eight strikeouts over 9 1/3 innings during his rehab assignment. The left-hander should be a nice addition to the A's bullpen if he has regained his pre-Tommy John surgery form.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that "there's a chance" Eric O'Flaherty (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list on Thursday.

Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, O'Flaherty has posted a 3.86 ERA with eight strikeouts over 9 1/3 innings during his rehab assignment. He would be a nice addition to the big club's bullpen if he has regained pre-surgery form. The A's begin a six-game homestand on Thursday.

Eric O'Flaherty (elbow) could be activated from the disabled list during the Athletics' next homestand, which begins on July 3.

Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, O'Flaherty has posted a 4.32 ERA with six strikeouts over 8 1/3 innings during his rehab assignment. The left-hander could prove to be a big part of the A's bullpen if he has regained his pre-surgery stuff.

Eric O'Flaherty (elbow) is scheduled to make his first rehab appearance with High-A Stockton on Friday.

O'Flaherty is on his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, so he could be on a rehab assignment through mid-June. The left-hander should provide a nice boost for the Oakland bullpen when he's activated.

Eric O'Flaherty (elbow) thinks he'll be ready for a rehab assignment after throwing another simulated game Thursday.

O'Flaherty has been facing hitters for three weeks now and is nearing ready for some official game action. The left-hander should join the A's bullpen within the next few weeks.

Eric O'Flaherty (elbow) threw two simulated innings on Tuesday afternoon without issue.

O'Flaherty will perform a similar workout later this week before embarking on a minor league rehab assignment. He is about a year removed from Tommy John surgery and should join the A's bullpen sometime in June.
