Sam LeCure threw two scoreless innings Sunday in his start against the Indians.
It was likely just a veteran courtesy, as LeCure hasn't started a game in the majors since 2011. LeCure had a 3.14 ERA as a long reliever in the Reds' bullpen last season. Feb 24 - 8:37 PM

Sam LeCure (shoulder) tossed a bullpen session Thursday.

LeCure hasn't pitched in a couple of days because of shoulder soreness, but he is expected to avoid the disabled list. The right-hander has posted a 3.02 ERA and 40/19 K/BB ratio in 41 2/3 innings this season.

Sam LeCure was unavailable to pitch Tuesday due to inflammation in his right shoulder.

LeCure was slated to test out the shoulder prior to Wednesday's game, though it's not clear how that went. "He said he feels better. He's going to test it today and see where he is," Reds manager Dusty Baker said of LeCure. Baker did not rule out a disabled list stint for the righty. He could conceivably be replaced by Nick Masset, who appears ready to return soon from a shoulder injury of his own.

Reds activated RHP Sam LeCure from the 15-day disabled list.

LeCure has been out since late May with a forearm strain, but he's ready to assume a long relief role after tossing three shutout innings Sunday in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Louisville. He'll return to a 3.18 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 30/8 K/BB ratio over 34 innings.

Sam LeCure (forearm) tossed three scoreless innings Sunday in a rehab outing at Triple-A Louisville.

LeCure struck out three while earning a save for the Louisville Bats. He has a 1.35 ERA now in four minor league appearances and should be nearing a return from the disabled list. The versatile right-hander has been out since late May with a forearm strain.

Sam LeCure (forearm) is scheduled to throw three innings Saturday in a minor league rehab appearance with Triple-A Louisville.

This will be his fourth and potentially final rehab appearance. "It’s how he feels coming out of that outing," said Reds pitching coach Bryan Price. "We’d like to get up to 40, 45 pitches. He’s going to be the long guy. We’d like to use him like we did prior to the forearm strain, so he’s going to have to give us some length." LeCure won't be available to pitch again until Monday, so the Reds will likely wait to make an official roster move.

Sam LeCure (forearm) threw a scoreless rehab inning for Triple-A Louisville Thursday, allowing one walk but no hits.

"Sam pitched well last night," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. Baker added that LeCure will pitch again Sunday before throwing two innings on Thursday and two more on June 20. Assuming all goes well, he should be activated after that.

Sam LeCure (forearm) has joined Triple-A Louisville to begin a rehab assignment.

LeCure is eligible to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday. It's not clear if he'll be ready then after an appearance or two over the weekend, but if he isn't, it shouldn't be long after that.

Sam LeCure (forearm) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Saturday.

"I cut a few loose just to see where we’re at, and that’s kind of a big test throwing downhill," LeCure said. "It’s still a little bit tight, but it’s getting better and better. We’ll see how I respond. If it’s good, I’ll probably get back on the mound Monday." LeCure is eligible for activation from the DL Tuesday, but he's unsure if he'll be ready or if he'll need a rehab assignment first. "I don’t know if they’re going to have me do a rehab assignment," he said. "I don’t think I’m too far removed from game speed."

Reds placed RHP Sam LeCure on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm.

LeCure reported feeling better this weekend on his personal Twitter account, but he's had trouble getting loose when called upon and will sit out for a couple of weeks as a precautionary measure. The 27-year-old right-hander has posted a strong 3.18 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 34 innings this season for the Redlegs.

Sam LeCure (forearm) is expected to be placed on the disabled list.

LeCure has been dealing with a forearm injury and was unable to get loose in order to enter Saturday's game. He'll probably be shut down for a little while in order to let the injury calm down. Tom Cochran will be called up from Triple-A to replace him.

Sam LeCure (forearm) was unable to get loose in order to come into Saturday's game.

It's possible LeCure, who hasn't pitched since last Sunday, could wind up on the DL, as the pitching-thin Reds can't afford to carry him on their roster right now. Jordan Smith or Daryl Thompson, who was just sent down Saturday, are options to be recalled.

Sam LeCure (forearm) said he was available out of the bullpen Friday.

LeCure was unavailable Wednesday and Thursday due to tightness in his forearm. "It's been better playing catch," he said. "It's progressing. They said it won't get any worse. But you can't mimic adrenaline. I'm available. I've been available. I might have to grit my teeth."

Sam LeCure was unavailable for Wednesday's 19-inning marathon against the Phillies due to a tight right forearm.

"They told me before the game they would try to stay away from me," said LeCure, who pitched 3 1/3 innings on Sunday. "I knew that, but I tried to get loose later. I don't know if it was a combination that I was still sore or that I was sitting out there for 4 1/2 hours. I felt terrible because Carlos went out there and threw almost 100 pitches. I felt more bad he had to lose the game than anything. I could have gone out there. I wouldn't have looked like my normal self. I wish I could have done something." He should be available again in the next few days.
