Cubs signed RHP Jensen Lewis to a minor league contract.
Lewis hasn't appeared in the majors since 2010 and spent last year with the Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate. While he's had success in the past as a middle reliever, he remains doubtful to win a spot in the Cubs' bullpen. Sun, Dec 16, 2012 09:15:00 PM

Diamondbacks reassigned RHP Jensen Lewis to Triple-A Reno.

Lewis allowed only four hits over seven scoreless innings this spring, but he wasn't able to crack the talented Arizona bullpen. He'll act as relief depth this year.

Diamondbacks signed RHP Jensen Lewis to a minor league contract.

The deal also carries an invite to spring training, where Lewis will attempt to land a spot in the Arizona bullpen. He'll get a $675,000 salary if he manages the feat.

Indians released RHP Jensen Lewis.

The owner of a 3.68 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 198 major-league innings over four seasons, Lewis was struggling mightily as a reliever for Triple-A Columbus this year, posting a 5.14 ERA and 1.96 WHIP in 28 innings. Still just 27, he'll likely be able to latch on somewhere else.

Indians sent RHP Jensen Lewis outright to Triple-A Columbus.

Lewis passed through waivers without drawing much interest. Probably because of his 14.29 spring ERA.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Indians have placed Jensen Lewis on waivers.

Lewis enjoyed some success last year in 37 relief appearances for the Tribe, but he has registered a 14.29 ERA in five-plus innings of work this spring and is in danger of being released if the Indians don't find a taker. He signed a one-year, $650,000 contract this winter as a first-year arbitration-eligible player.

Jensen Lewis is in danger of being released if he doesn't turn things around in a hurry.

He's given up nine earned runs over 5 2/3 innings this spring and has a 1/3 K/BB ratio. The Indians will have to pay the right-hander all of his $650,000 salary even if he's let go, but it sounds like they're willing to do so even though Lewis held a 2.97 ERA in 37 games for the Tribe last year. "There has to be some concern," manager Manny Acta said. "He's a two-pitch pitcher [fastball, changeup]. When you're a two-pitch guy, you have to have command of both of them at this level to have success. Right now, he's not commanding any of them and getting himself in trouble."

Indians and RHP Jensen Lewis avoided arbitration Thursday by agreeing to a one-year, $650,000 contract.

Lewis was a candidate to be non-tendered, so he chose to re-up at just over the league minimum rather than test the free agent waters. He posted a 2.45 ERA in 23 appearances at Triple-A Columbus in 2010 while also registering a 2.97 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 36 1/3 innings in the bigs.

The Indians had told Jensen Lewis that he would be demoted, but when Carlos Santana suffered his knee injury, Lewis got to stick around.

The right-hander has been up and down the the Tribe this year, as the demotion would have been his fifth of the season. He's posted a 4.01 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 24 games with the Indians this season.

Jensen Lewis and Indians third base coach were ejected for their part in a benches-clearing confrontation during the eighth inning of Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

Benches cleared after Lewis threw behind Adrian Beltre to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning. The Red Sox likely thought it was some sort of retribution for Josh Beckett hitting Shelley Duncan and Shin Soo-Choo earlier in the game. No punches were thrown in the incident, but tempers were certainly flaring. After a delay of several minutes, order was finally restored, sending Lewis and Smith to the showers.

Lewis is back after the minimum 10 days in Columbus. He pitched just twice for the Clippers, working 1 2/3 scoreless innings. He has a 4.18 ERA in 23 2/3 innings for the Indians this season.

Indians optioned RHP Jensen Lewis to Triple-A Columbus.

As expected. Lewis was designated for assignment despite having an option remaining, but it was called a "procedural move" by the club. The 26-year-old right-hander returns to a 2.25 ERA over 13 appearances with the Clippers this season. He'll be back.

The Indians are expected to option right-hander Jensen Lewis to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.

Lewis had an option remaining, however he was designated for assignment Tuesday as a "procedural move," as described by the club. He is highly unlikely to be claimed. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 4.18 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 22 relief appearances with the Indians this season.
