Date:

Jack Hannahan (shoulder) should be activated from the disabled list in the next day or two.

Hannahan has been out all season because of a right shoulder injury. Reds manager Bryan Price broke the news Saturday that he will likely be activated Sunday or Monday. The versatile 34-year-old can be a valuable utilityman down the stretch for Cincinnati.

Jack Hannahan (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Class A Dayton.

Hannahan has had multiple setbacks following offseason shoulder surgery, so he has yet to play in a game with the Reds this season. He'll likely need most or all of his rehab window before being activated.
Jul 8 - 11:47 AM

Jack Hannahan (shoulder) has yet to make any throws from third to first base.

Hannahan resumed throwing a week ago and is doing well, but he's being brought along slowly after having a setback in May with his surgically-repaired right shoulder. "It's going good," Hannahan said. "It's been the best it's felt. I'm just kind of going with the throwing program and swinging. This is the best it's felt this go-round." Hannahan isn't close to a rehab assignment and will need 10-14 days' worth of rehab games, so obviously it will be a while before he returns.
Jul 6 - 9:49 AM

Jack Hannahan (shoulder) has resumed throwing and hitting.

"Both have been going a lot better than they have the last few tries that he's made," Reds manager Bryan Price said. Hannahan has had multiple setbacks in his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery, but it appears he's finally making some progress. There's no timetable for his return.
Jul 1 - 7:45 PM

Jack Hannahan (shoulder) could resume throwing and hitting on Monday.

Hannahan has had multiple setbacks in his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery, but he's finally feeling well enough again to give it a go. "It feels pretty good," Hannahan said Thursday. "There's still minimal discomfort. It's a matter of strengthening and starting a throwing program again. Flexibility is good and [so is] my range of motion."

May 24 - 4:08 PM

Jack Hannahan (shoulder) played long-toss from 110 feet Monday.

"It's been feeling good," said Hannahan. "A lot better this go-around than the last go-around. I'm up to two sessions at 110 feet and it's feeling pretty good." Hannahan added that he needs "to be consistent at 120 [feet] and feeling good and then we'll throw some balls across the diamond." He'll be allowed to hit sometime after that before eventually going out on a rehab assignment.

Mar 30 - 2:42 PM

Jack Hannahan (shoulder) has yet to throw from third to first base during Cactus League games.

"He's done it in practice," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "I don't want to say tentative, but it's certainly not at game speed. It might be a day on, a day off or two days on, a day off. He's not throwing every day." Working his way back from offseason shoulder surgery, Hannahan will begin the season in extended spring training. There's no timetable for when he'll be activated from the DL.
Mar 24 - 9:13 PM

Reds manager Bryan Price indicated Saturday that Jack Hannahan (shoulder) remains questionable to be ready for Opening Day.

The veteran infielder underwent offseason shoulder surgery, and is currently throwing every other day from a distance of 90 feet. Price noted that if Hannahan isn't ready to go, the team does have other options who could fill his bench spot until he's fully healed.
Mar 8 - 10:40 AM

Jack Hannahan has yet to play in any Cactus League games because he's rehabbing from offseason shoulder surgery.

The operation hadn't been announced until now. Hannahan is still rehabbing the injury and it's not clear at this point when he'll be ready to play in games or if his availability for Opening Day is in question.
Feb 28 - 11:01 AM

Jack Hannahan grounded out as a pinch-hitter in Monday's victory against the Mets.

The Minnesota native is miscast as a pinch-hitter and is no threat to Todd Frazier's job, despite the latter's struggles. Hannahan is known for his glove, not his stick, but Cincinnati likely hoped for more than a .222/.317/.278 slash line when they inked him to a two-year, $4 million contract over the offseason.

Reds signed INF Jack Hannahan to a two-year, $4 million contract with a club option for 2015.

It was originally reported as a one-year deal, but the Reds wound up having to go a little longer. Hannahan will serve as Todd Frazier's primary backup at third base in 2013 while also providing depth all around the Cincinnati infield. The 32-year-old hit .244/.312/.341 in 105 games this past summer for the Indians.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Reds have reached agreement with infielder Jack Hannahan on a one-year, $2 million contract.

This is more than Hannahan projected to make in arbitration prior to being non-tendered by the Indians last month, so he did pretty well here. The 32-year-old infielder batted .244/.312/.341 with four home runs, 29 RBI and a .654 OPS this past season and figures to serve as Todd Frazier's backup at third base. He'll once again be teammates with Shin-Soo Choo and Jason Donald, who were traded to the Reds on Tuesday night.
