Jose Arredondo has been suspended at Triple-A Louisville for violating team rules.
Louisville manager Jim Riggleman wouldn't go into details other than to say that Arredondo, who holds a 4.15 ERA and 35/20 K/BB ratio in 21 2/3 Triple-A frames, will be away from the club for 10-14 days. "We have basic rules, he violated one of those rules, we decided a suspension was warranted," Riggleman explained. "I talked to my bosses in Cincinnati and this is what they came up with. He’ll be away from us maybe 10 days to two weeks. He’ll be working out, in uniform, somewhere, but it will be a while." May 26 - 10:27 AM

Reds sent RHP Jose Arredondo outright to Triple-A Louisville.

Arredondo surprisingly passed through waivers, but he'll have to accept an assignment to Triple-A. He posted ERAs of 3.23 and 2.95 in 2011 and 2012, respectively, while striking out nearly a batter per inning, so he can certainly be useful as a middle relief option.

Cesar Izturis, Manny Parra and Alfredo Simon are expected to make the Reds' Opening Day roster.

The Cincinnati Enquirer's John Fay believes that means Jason Donald, Logan Ondrusek and Jose Arredondo will not make the team. Arredondo has pitched pretty well the last two seasons for the Reds and had a great spring, so him failing to make the roster would be a surprise. Both he and Donald are out of options and, thus, would have to clear waivers in order to report to Triple-A. That seems unlikely to happen.

Jose Arredondo's new two-year contract extension with the Reds is worth a total of $2 million.

Arredondo signed the deal last week, avoiding arbitration for the next two seasons. The 27-year-old right-hander registered a cool 3.23 ERA and 48/31 K/BB ratio across 53 innings last year for the Reds. With a little better control, he could become a truly dangerous setup man.

No word yet on the financial terms of the deal. Arredondo, a first-year arbitration-eligible reliever, posted a 3.23 ERA and 48/31 K/BB ratio in 53 innings last season for the Reds. If he can rein in his control issues a little, the 27-year-old righty could develop into a reliable setup man.

Jose Arredondo requested $875,000 and was offered $725,000 by the Reds when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.

Arredondo, who turns 28 in March, posted a 3.23 ERA and 48/31 K/BB ratio over 53 innings last season with the Reds. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported Monday that the two sides were close to a deal that would buy out his first two years of arbitration, so perhaps they'll make more progress in the days ahead.

Arredondo spent only the minimum amount of time on the DL with a strained right forearm. He'll return to a middle relief role.

Jose Arredondo (forearm) threw a successful bullpen session Sunday at about 80 percent intensity.

"He was comfortable, that's what I was looking for," head trainer Paul Lessard said. "He's almost there." Arredondo just landed on the DL Friday, and it sound like he'll probably be ready once his 15 days are up.

Arredondo is a Tommy John survivor, so hopefully it's not a precursor to more elbow problems. He's posted a 3.04 ERA and 1.44 WHIP while striking out nearly a batter per inning this season.

Jose Arredondo's rehab assignment ends Wednesday.

The Reds are not expected to make a decision about the right-hander until Friday, when they return home from a road trip. Arredondo has posted a 2.63 ERA and 18/5 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings in the minor leagues, but the Cincinnati bullpen is pretty full at the moment.

Jose Arredondo (shoulder) will resume his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville.

Arredondo posted a 2.35 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings with Double-A Carolina and the Reds are pleased with what they've heard. "From the reports I'm getting, all of that stuff is getting a lot better," said Reds pitching coach Bryan Price. "The arm strength is more consistent and the breaking ball and split have been much, much better -- what we expected from him when we got him." Arredondo, now 27 years old, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009 due to Tommy John surgery.

Jose Arredondo is expected to spend a whole 30 days on a minor league rehab assignment.

Arredondo began that rehab assignment last week and will remain in the minors through early May. The Reds want to be sure that he has enough arm strength when they do finally call him up. The young reliever is still working his way back from Tommy John surgery.

Jose Arredondo (shoulder) threw a perfect rehab inning Monday at Single-A Carolina.

Arredondo opened some eyes this spring and should climb his way to the big leagues before his rehab clock expires. He hit the DL in late March with a sore shoulder.
