Rockies optioned OF Tyler Colvin to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Colvin had a breakout season for the Rockies in 2012, hitting .290/.327/.531 with 18 homers, 72 RBI and seven stolen bases. He struggled to get things going in the spring though, hitting just .167/.216/.208 with 14 strikeouts in 48 at-bats. While this move comes as a major surprise, with the health of Todd Helton, Michael Cuddyer and Carlos Gonzalez always in question, Colvin should see plenty of at-bats in Colorado during the season. He could also attract interest on the trade market. Mar 29 - 8:07 PM

Rockies avoided arbitration with OF Tyler Colvin by agreeing to a one-year, $2.275 million contract.

Colvin, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time as a Super 2 player, had a nice bounce-back year in 2012, batting .290/.327/.531 with 18 longballs. He'll open 2013 in a backup role but will see plenty of playing time when the inevitable Todd Helton injury occurs.

Tyler Colvin (elbow) finished 1-for-2 in his return to the Rockies' lineup on Sunday afternoon.

Colvin was scratched Saturday because of soreness in his left elbow. It was never a big concern for the Rockies.

Tyler Colvin was scratched from the Rockies' starting lineup on Saturday due to soreness in his left elbow.

Colvin is listed as day-to-day, but he maintains that he'll be able to return to the lineup on Sunday. He's having a true breakout season offensively, hitting .290/.327/.530 with 18 home runs, 71 RBI and seven stolen bases in his first year with the Rockies.

Tyler Colvin blasted a pinch-hit, two-run homer in a losing effort against the Giants on Tuesday.

Colvin entered the game with a man on and two outs in the ninth inning, and the Rockies trailing 9-6. He got Colorado within one run with his drive, but that would be as close as they'd come. He's enjoying a fine offensive campaign, now hitting .293 with 18 homers and 65 RBI.

Tyler Colvin homered for the second consecutive game, helping to lead the Rockies to a wild 11-10 victory over the Padres on Sunday.

He finished the night 1-for-3 plus a sacrifice. Colvin launched a two-run homer off Casey Kelly as part of a seven-run third inning that gave the Rockies the lead. He’s found his way into everyday playing time with the injuries to Michael Cuddyer, and has responded very favorably. On the season, he’s hitting a terrific .294/.335/.564 with 17 homers, 63 RBI and seven steals in only 330 at-bats.

Tyler Colvin finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Saturday's defeat of the Padres.

Colvin hit a solo home run to center field in the second inning and a two-run double to left field in the fifth. He has an impressive .892 OPS with 16 home runs and 61 RBI through 106 games played this season.

Tyler Colvin homered and drove in three runs in Monday's win over the Dodgers.

Colvin launched Josh Beckett's second pitch as a Dodger into the second deck and later added a two-RBI triple off Kenley Jansen. He's been awfully inconsistent, but the Rockies have to be happy with what they've gotten this year out of Colvin, who is batting .290 with 15 homers and 55 RBI.

Tyler Colvin went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Monday's 3-1 win over the Mets.

Colvin's solo shot off R.A. Dickey in the top of the fifth inning was his first home run since July 6, snapping a streak of 104 homerless at-bats. The 26-year-old figures to see most of the playing time at first base with Michael Cuddyer (oblique) sidelined, so he could have some sneaky value in mixed fantasy leagues down the stretch.

Tyler Colvin delivered a game-winning two-run double in the bottom of the ninth as the Rockies edged the Brewers 7-6 on Wednesday.

Colvin slumped in July and the early part of August, but he's gone 8-for-19 with five RBI in his last five games. He'll probably remain in the lineup most of the time following Michael Cuddyer's return, though he may not get as much playing time as he has received in the last month.

Coming off a July where he hit .200/.263/.457, Tyler Colvin went 3-for-4 with a pair of his triples and his 42nd RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Colvin now has seven three-baggers on the season to go along with 13 home runs and 12 doubles. He's hitting .281/.318/.563 through 79 games after hitting .150/.204/.306 in 80 games for the Cubs last season. Despite his rough July, Colvin should remain an NL-only league asset.

Tyler Colvin swatted a pair of home runs off Stephen Strasburg on Friday, leading the Rockies to a 5-1 victory over the Nationals.

He finished the evening 3-for-4 with the two homers and three RBI. He’s been on an absolute tear in recent weeks, and is now hitting an impressive .311 with 13 homers and 40 RBI on the season. He got the call at first base in this one, and could man the position more frequently moving forward. He absolutely needs to be owned and started in all leagues until further notice.

Tyler Colvin blasted his 11th home run of the season in a losing effort against the Cardinals on Thursday.

He finished the night 1-for-4 with the two-run blast off Victor Marte. He's doing everything in his power to justify more playing time, batting .301 with 11 homers and 37 RBI in just 188 at-bats. As long as he's playing regularly, he deserves to be started in all mixed leagues, especially when playing in Colorado's thin mountain air.

Tyler Colvin doubled in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Colvin has laced an extra-base hit in each of the first three games of Colorado's four-game swing through St. Louis. He'll bring a .302/.331/.599 slash into Thursday's finale.

Tyler Colvin went 4-for-6 with a homer, a triple and five RBI as the Rockies edged the Nationals 11-10 in 11 innings Thursday.

The Nationals overcame a 7-0 deficit to tie the game at 9 in the fifth and tied it up again with a Bryce Harper solo homer in the ninth, only to end up losing in 11 on a Marco Scutaro RBI single. Colvin homered, singled and tripled in his first three at-bats today, giving him three tries at the cycle, but he settled for one additional single in his remaining appearances. The ex-Cub has been impressive as a part-time player this year, hitting .309 with eight homers and 29 RBI in 152 at-bats.
