Adam Ottavino had a shaky appearance in Monday’s loss to the Royals, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning.
Ottavino was handed a 2-0 lead going into the top of the seventh, but he gave up back-to-back singles to Cheslor Cuthbert and Whit Merrifield to begin the frame. Both eventually scored on a game-tying single by Ramon Torres. Ottavino was pulled after walking two batters to load the bases. It was a rough day at the office, but Ottavino remains the presumed closer for Colorado. That could obviously change based on his performance and how Greg Holland looks after returning from Tommy John surgery. Mar 13 - 7:44 PM

Adam Ottavino struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 inning on Monday against the Dodgers.

The Rockies signed former Royals closer Greg Holland to a one-year, $7 million contract back in January, but he’s still working his way back into action in simulated games. Ottavino was solid in his first year back from Tommy John surgery last season, posting a 2.67 ERA and 35/7 K/BB ratio over 27 innings. Ottavino looks like the favorite to begin the year as the closer at the moment, but Holland could be a threat if he proves his health and effectiveness.

Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post expects Adam Ottavino to open the year as the Rockies' closer.

The Rockies just signed former Royals closer Greg Holland to a one-year, $7 million deal but Saunders doesn't see him as an option in the ninth inning, at least in the early going. Holland is coming off Tommy John surgery and his velocity was way down when he held his showcase earlier this offseason. Ottavino pitched reasonably well last season, logging a 2.67 ERA over 34 appearances. It's hard to trust any pitcher who calls Coors Field home, but if you're going to choose a Rockies reliever in fantasy, Ottavino is probably the one to own.

Adam Ottavino tossed a perfect ninth inning Friday against the Brewers for his seventh save of the season.

Ottavino struck out two out of the three batters he faced. The 30-year-old is just 7-for-12 in save chances this season, but he has converted five out of his last six chances. He owns an impressive 2.42 ERA and 32/7 K/BB ratio over 26 innings in his first year back from Tommy John surgery.

Adam Ottavino took a horrible blown save Wednesday, giving up five runs in the ninth against the Dodgers.

Ottavino had a 0.48 ERA this season coming into this one. Now he's at 2.75 after Andrew Toles' grand slam. His closer gig is safe anyway, but this one was a nightmare.

Adam Ottavino struck out the side in the ninth Thursday against the Rangers for his first save of the season.

Ottavino probably could have taken the closer's role the day he returned from Tommy John surgery last month, but he had to wait until Carlos Estevez blew back-to-back save chances over the last week. Ottavino has yet to give up a run in 13 innings this season.

Adam Ottavino will replace Carlos Estevez as the Rockies' closer.

Ottavino is essentially getting his old job back, as he briefly served as closer prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery early last season. Estevez's struggles served as the motivation behind the change, but Ottavino has thrown 11 2/3 scoreless innings with a 12/3 K/BB ratio since coming off the disabled list. The Rockies figure to be careful with him, but he needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.

Rockies activated RHP Adam Ottavino from the 60-day disabled list.

The right-hander has missed the entire season to date as he has recovered from Tommy John surgery. As he acclimates himself to the bullpen, there's a chance he could work his way into the mix for save chances.

Adam Ottavino (elbow) will meet up with the Rockies early this week in San Francisco in order to be evaluated.

That usually means he's slated to come off the disabled list at that time, barring any surprises. Working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Ottavino holds a 5.40 ERA and 12/5 K/BB ratio over 8 1/3 rehab innings between High-A Modesto and Triple-A Albuquerque. It might not take him long to overtake Carlos Estevez as the Rockies' closer.

Adam Ottavino (elbow) will shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Ottavino made four appearances with High-A Modesto -- one bad, three pretty good. The right-hander could return to the Rockies' bullpen next week if everything continues to go smoothly and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him move quickly into a high-leverage role. He's on the long road back from Tommy John surgery.

Adam Ottavino (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Modesto on Friday.

Ottavino is nearing a return from Tommy John. Keep an eye on him for fantasy purposes. The Rockies bullpen is far from settled and if he capitalizes on the shakiness of Jake McGee and the like, the 30-year-old right-hander could be in line for potential saves. In 2014 -- his last full season before injury struck -- Ottavino held a 3.60 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 70/16 K/BB ratio over 65 innings.

Adam Ottavino (elbow) is hoping to face hitters later this month.

Ottavino's recovery from Tommy John surgery is progressing on schedule to this point and he could be ready to rejoin the Rockies' bullpen around the All-Star break. Jake McGee has been up and down as the Rockies' closer, so it's possible Ottavino could eventually get another crack at the ninth inning if he regains his pre-op stuff. Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post thinks Jason Motte (shoulder) could also potentially be in the mix for saves.

Adam Ottavino (elbow) will throw another bullpen session Wednesday.

He introduced his breaking pitches in his last mound workout and had no issues. Ottavino, coming back from Tommy John surgery, should be ready sometime in July.

Adam Ottavino (elbow) will throw a 15-pitch bullpen session on Friday.

It will be his first time throwing off a mound since last year's Tommy John surgery. The Rockies aren't placing a timetable on Ottavino's return, but he will likely be back around midseason.

Rockies placed RHP Adam Ottavino on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Tony Wolters. Ottavino will be sidelined until around midseason while he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. The 30-year-old could eventually find himself back in the closer role for the Rockies, but that might not happen until 2017.
