Phillies signed INF Emmanuel Burriss to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Burriss was with the Nationals during the 2015 season, at least until they outrighted him to Triple-A Syracuse in mid-July. He'll turn 31 in January. In 806 plate appearances in the bigs, he's just a .245/.307/.271 hitter. There's no fantasy upside here, just a minor league signing.

Nationals re-signed UTIL Emmanuel Burriss to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 29-year-old hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2012, when he was a member of the Giants, but he registered a promising .300/.377/.412 batting line with 22 stolen bases in 116 games this past season at Triple-A Syracuse. Burriss will function as organizational infield depth for the Nats again in 2015.

Nationals signed INF Emmanuel Burriss to a minor league contract.

The 28-year-old spent the entire 2013 campaign at Triple-A Louisville where he struggled to a .241/.294/.266 line with one homer 24 RBI and 17 stolen bases. Better known for his defensive prowess than his hitting ability, he'll function as additional depth in the minor leagues for the Nationals.

Giants designated INF Emmanuel Burriss for assignment.

It's largely a procedural move, as the Giants needed a spot on the 40-man roster for Marco Scutaro. There's a chance Burriss will be claimed off waivers, but, either way, he should get another shot in the majors this season.

But this too shall pass. Burriss has a career .592 OPS in 584 major league at-bats. His speed and defensive abilities could serve him well this year, but won't be very much help to fantasy owners.
