Inglett was acquired from the Rays at the start of the regular season and spent the past four weeks in the major leagues. But he posted just a .174 batting average and .391 OPS over 23 plate appearances. Clint Barmes will take Houston's vacant roster spot on Friday.

The 32-year-old offers all sorts of defensive versatility and owns a career line of .286/.345/.397 over 871 career plate appearances. He was non-tendered by the Brewers over the winter and signed to a minor league deal by the Rays after turning in a .254/.331/.401 batting line in 2010.

Brewers MLB.com beat writer Adam McCalvy thinks the signing of Brandon Boggs might spell the end of Joe Inglett's tenure in Milwaukee.

Well, it's not exactly Jeter-leaving-the-Yankees news. Inglett, who is arbitration-eligible, was a valuable pinch-hitter for the Brew Crew in 2010, picking up 20 hits in 68 at-bats for a .294 average. He's capable of playing every position but first base, catcher and pitcher, so some team in need of a utlilityman will give him a shot.

He was hit by a pitch in his only at-bat in the seventh inning. Inglett left Saturday's game against the Twins with a sprained left ankle.

Inglett was making a rare start in left field, but hurt himself sliding into home in the fifth inning and was pulled from the ballgame. He was replaced by Jody Gerut, who is back in town following the birth of his daughter.

Inglett also had a single in his three at-bats. The waiver claim is bidding to make the Brewers as a utilityman, though that he and Craig Counsell are both left-handed hitters won't help his chances.

Brewers claimed IF-OF Joe Inglett off waivers from the Rangers.

Inglett continues to bounce around the majors. He was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Monday after being claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays in December. The 31-year-old utility man batted .281/.347/.348 in 99 plate appearances last season, but spent most of the season with Triple-A Las Vegas. He should get a chance to compete for a spot on Milwaukee's Opening Day roster.
